Everyone is trying to compete with the RX. Right now that is top dog in terms of desirability for the luxury SUV market. I think Hyundai is positioning itself nicely to capture the "I don't want to spend that much" but get something similar to a Lexus or a Cadillac. As much as I hate to admit it Hyundai is a leader in value but a follower in design.

Although I see the Lexus/Nissan/Infiniti resemblance, I also see the resemblance to its big brother, the Santa Fe. I like that Hyundai is finally starting to develop a design theme, even if it is similar to others.

The truth is ALL cars are derivative in some way. I think Hyundai is carving out their own style and bringing in some top design talent. Former BMW designer Thomas Burkle led the design team on the Tucson (ix35).

Front- and all-wheel drive versions will be offered, but only one engine will be available initially--Hyundai's new Theta II 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower (26% more than its predecessor) and 168 pound-feet of torque.

Def a good start and more power than the old Delta.

QUOTE
With an overall length of 173.2 inches, a width of 71.7 inches and a height of 66.3 inches (with roof rails), the 2010 Hyundai Tucson has a great stance and road presence. It also means the Tucson has a longer wheelbase and overall width than the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Subaru Forester to deliver more packing efficiency.

While....

QUOTE
Furthermore, at 3,203 pounds for an automatic transmission model, the Tucson is lighter than its competitors, while offering more interior room than the Nissan Rogue and Ford Escape.

So its not much heavier than our XDs and with more power.

QUOTE
Accordingly, the Tucson has one of the best fuel economy ratings in its class, with an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway rating for the automatic model with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive versions return 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Decent numbers, but i still hope they give a diesel option in the future. Then i could seriously consider it.

Def a nice interior and if thats the same red leather as is in the Gen coupe, its really nice!

They Are Here!!!

Spotted this as I looked out the window while waiting for an oil change. Once it stopped raining I took a stroll and have to say it looks much nicer in person than I thought. Parked next to the previous gen Tucson you can see there isn't much the same except for the name.

Only downside.... There is absolutely no rear bumper. It might stick out an inch from the trunk if that. I can only imagine seeing this being rammed into one of those lightpoles like the IIHS likes to show on the news and causing lots of damage.

Wow, i have not been paying any attention to this vehical and it looks really nice! I am going to have to get a look at this tommorrow. It might have the potential to be a next car in the garage.

The diesel option would be really nice. Hope they add it as an option.
