The wife just got home from a successful hunt, and just as she turned in the driveway of the complex the CEL came on (after ~100 mile drive). Took it to the local parts store, and it's throwing code P0101 (MAF Circuit range/performance problem). My plan for attacking this glitch was to start with the PCV valve (I checked the air filter a while ago and it's more or less new... only 5k miles on it), only the parts store doesn't show one in their catalog. I'm hoping that Tuesday I'll be able to kind of check around for air/vacuum leaks (I work at 0500 and we have to drive up to ~100 miles away to retrieve processed venison), but in the meantime does anybody have any suggestions for what else to check over? I really don't want to try and yank the MAF any time soon... they're spendy.

If you have to remove the PVC valve, make sure you review the "PVC Valve removal nightmare" thread.
PVC Valve removal Nightmare It's pinned in the mainenance forum also. -------------------- 19 mm sway bar, easy intake mod with K&N filter, Pioneer DEH P4800MP, DC Strut Bar, Brushed Aluminum Dash Kit. |

I did see that, but I'm not sure the Rio is exactly the same layout. I haven't dug under the whole air cleaner box yet to really investigate. I'm hoping to maybe take a look this afternoon. -------------------- |

Sorry, you didn't mention it was a Rio. Anyways, at least you're aware of it. Edit: Oops, missed that it was in the Kia zone. Oh, as a followup to the saga... went to yon parts store to see if they'd clear the code so I can see if it was a fluke occurrence or if I actually have a problem on my hands. They wouldn't unless I could prove that I'd fixed the car due to a "Federal mandate". Never mind that step one of the process is "see if the car actually needs fixing rather than throw $130 at a problem that can be fixed for free," or that I've had codes cleared by parts stores before.
