So it's true. A new real Elantra sport sedan is coming with a 200 hp turbo and independent rear suspension.

A test version was spotted in a parking lot in Korea and here are a few spy shots:

Cool red trim and Sport logo on the seats

Dual exhaust

Awesome 18" wheels and what looks to be side skirts

New aggressive looking headlights

I have the feeling this car won't come cheap but it has the makings of the most unique Elantra ever.

Mitch

Anyone else excited about this. I mean it's a civic contender. Think about the aftermarket that is all ready available.

I hate red in the interior.
Red stitching and red "Sport" on a black seat, fine, I like that, but that red leg and side bolster, with the red on top of the seat, no thanks.

Will be interesting to see the whole car unveiled though.

Wonder what it'll cost. A 200hp turbo four isn't that great, I mean Dodge surpassed 200hp in 2003 and Chevrolet in 2005...
Never mind, I'm just hating because I can't afford it. tongue.gif

The Sport will be the Elantra's top of the line model according to Hyundai execs.

Keeping in mind that the existing top of the line 2017 Elantra Limited Ultimate lists for almost $28,000...

The Sport will be priced as high as $30,000. Yikes.

I think Hyundai is making a mistake pricing it higher than the big boys like the GTI and Focus ST. Now, if they had undercut those models by a grand or two...

I mean, honestly, the 1.6T with 200 hp and 195 lb./ft. of torque pales in comparison to what is offered in those competing models or something like the WRX. The upcoming Civic Si is expected to arrive with something like 230-250hp. I guess we'll see how it all plays out in the marketplace. Too bad Hyundai doesn't consult me on these things! wink.gif

I think the price is a bit too high as well, and at that price point definitely should have put it in the 225 HP range; but, the independent rear suspension - now that's something the Elantra has SORELY been lacking for years. That alone could put a dent in KYB's stock prices! cool.gif

Hey-Liking this new model. Red interiors are a favorite of mine.
A better rear suspension will help immeasurably. I wish the front suspension was a little firmer. That's the main reason I traded my '13 GT.

Here's the first non-official rendering of the Sport. Not sure how accurate it is though.

Interesting; like the interior and the concept. Could be a future car for me, but they are asinine at that price. A Veloster Turbo Rally comes in under 24k, and the Forte 5 with tech comes in at around 26k. Not to mention that would be a 13K premium over the base model. For 25k you can get a fully loaded mazda3 that, honestly, will probably be better to drive (given history of the two cars).
