Sounds like my ex girlfriend.

Is the GDI 2.0T in the Sonata the same motor? That'd to well in an Elantra. It'd take an MS3 and absolutely humiliate an Si.

Yea if the pistons would stay in the block long enough. Lol.

They wont make a small, fun car to get the Si, speed3 crowd. I think if they put the genny 2.0t motor with 250whp in the Elantra coup. OMG. It would be a fun car. But they want. They like to kill anything fun.

I don't know if they need to. They sell tons of boring old nice grown-up cars. Years ago we were discussing the Hyundai/Kia brand identities, and Kia was slated to be the fun and hip brand, while Hyundai was the nice-looking car my mom would drive. I'd like to see them go after that split. Kia has the Forte Koup, which doesn't get much run but it fills the FWD/4-banger tuner role pretty nicely from a performance and style standpoint. I'd like to see the Rio go away and get replaced by the Cee'd, and maybe they could add a small run of Pro_Cee'd to the market. That's the kind of car that could take the slot that the Veloster currently occupies.

The Forte Koup never had the power to compete with legitimate sport compacts like the Si or WRX, but it would make a decent platform for an attempt. That segment is more than a niche market and should be adequately filled or risk falling further behind rivals like Honda, etc. I think the Veloster was a good try, but maybe it's just not quite there yet. If they could tack on another ~50hp reliably plus a few other perfomance goodies they might have a winner on their hands.

the kouo looked nice, but was always the jokr of the crowd... velosters get more respect...
from these local yokel parking lot meets its not so much the power but the style and driver..

the two koup owners i met... one was uberdouchen, the other was a dumb blond ditzophrenic.

i wouldnt drive the xivic just to distance myself from the owners stigma... 8th gen kids are 80% dbags.. even tho i loved driving the mugen kitted one at the dealership... a new exhaust note goes a long way.

i think if a shop makes the necessary goods for the transplant into the elantra.... i might be a future owner of the new style... looks great.

While it's true, a good aftermarket will certainly help a car's image and popularity with tuners, it shouldn't have to be relied on to make a good car. An Si is already (relatively) fast out of the box, and doesn't necessarily need bolt-ons or anything else to help it along, even though the Honda aftermarket is probably the biggest of all. The Koup couldn't attract the buyers as any other sport compact could and therefore the demand for aftermarket stuff is low. If they could shoehorn a K24 equivalent into the engine bay it may stir up the sales chart and companies will build parts for it out of simple demand. I think it'd make great business for Kia to develop a sport model, as long as they're not lazy about it and pull a Toyota by dropping in a base Camry engine in the Corolla and calling it fun (XRS).

xrs had the celica engine. it was the tC that had the base camry 2.4.... nissan put the altima 2.5 in the sentra and it was heckuvalotta fun... even more with the slightly sportier specv (over regular Se-r)...

well the pro'ceed is pretty nice and the trackster concept just might perform better than anything weve ever seen in these shores...

The 9th gen Corolla XRS had the 2ZZ-GE 1.8, as well as the Matrix and Vibe (fun), but the 10th gen had the 2AZ-FE 2.4 (a dud). I'm not 100% on the American market but that was the excuse they gave us Canadians for a sporty Corolla. The Altima 2.5 was modified to put out the 200hp/180tq in the Sentra SE-R Spec V. It was a good engine let down by a poor chassis. We didn't get Scions here until 2011.

Anyways, all this is rather off topic, so I'll stop right here. I hope they can do something with the Veloster or build up another model, but I feel something needs to be done before it's too late and the market is lost for good.

I dunno... my Forte does it's fair share of embarassing it's competitors. tongue.gif The Theta has tons mor torque than anything Honda offers in a spot where it's most useful. Sure, it doesn't (stock) rev to the moon or have overpriced "Mugen" parts available, but it's got what it needs. Handling, power and amenities. I/H/E and tune puts it in line with the K20 cars, and slightly behind the K24 cars in HP, and destroys them both in torque and power under the curve.

The new 1.6T Forte will be even better if the aftermarket decides to step up.

Bring on that 2.0 from the S2000. Nothing like a production engine pumping out 120bhp/liter.
