I bought my Elantra Limited earlier this year, and had to take it in for inspection in August. The dealership has free inspections for life, so I went there obviously. When it was done, the guy behind the counter mentioned some sort of factory Recall firmware update that was applied to the onboard computer. I asked what it changed or if there were any sort of patch notes I could read somewhere, but he had no idea. Just said I'd probably not notice anything it changed since it was likely some kind of tuning or fuel mixture setting.

So.. one of my gripes with this car from the start has been that it doesn't keep your place in digital media. You turn the car off, it resets your flash drive playlist back to the root folder, MP3 #1.

Today, I happened to purchase a new album and hadn't copied it to my ipod yet. So, I put it on a flash drive and listened to it that way. I stopped off at the store on the way somewhere, and much to my surprise, when I got out, the stereo picked up where it left off. I proceeded to my destination, was there for a couple hours and upon leaving, the stereo once again picked up where it left off.

I'm not sure if the flash drive used might be the reason it stayed where it is, since its not the same one I'd originally used.

But I'm also not sure if it was the firmware update that maybe patched a bug?

For the record, its a Cruzer 8GB model, one of the ones you can find really cheap pretty much anywhere these days, has the thumb switch that pops out the U-shaped connector from the body.

Anyone else have any input on this?

Its amazing how little people bother to learn their jobs anymore. My car was in last month and they did an ecm update and changed the radio front panel under another tsb. The ecm update seems to have changed the shift points a bit, reduced throttle lag and hanging revs and improved overall driveability. I also suspect that the mpg calculator is more accurate now but i haven't done enough driving to be sure. The new radio panel lights up a lot better at night.

I usually listen to music over bluetooth but my flash drive also picks up where it left off always has but I typically unplug it when I shut the car off.

How big was the original flash drive? I experienced similar issues with large flash drives but it keeps it's spot just fine with a smaller 2gb drive.

This is in a 10 Sonata but I have seen other models where size apparently does matter. smile.gif

Mine is also a little one 512mb that was a convention giveaway. Since its been so hot this summer I didn't want to bake the good one in the car. Its not the size that counts but the way you use it wink.gif

The old one was a 4 gig flash drive. Haven't really noticed much of a change in handling/shifting or MPG yet, but its also only been one tank or so.
