Ok, it's not that new, we've known they make the Equus for a while for the Korean market and it wasn't very handsome or particularly powerful... but now it's being redone with the Genesis style:

It's "7 inches longer, 1.5 inches wider and has a wheelbase nearly 4.5 inches longer," than the Genesis. The Genesis rear seat is already very roomy so... where do another 4.5" go?
Price (in Korea) $93,000.

Color me stupid.

I thought the Equus was the Genesis here in the states.

I thought Hyundai shelved it's plan of a luxury devision (which the Equus was to flagship) and just brought it in as the Genesis in the Hyundai lineup.

Makes me wonder why the Hell they keep the Azera around now for.

Oh, and I like the back body line ala Dodge Charger better instead of the rounded back of the Genesis. Very nice looking car except for the hood ornament. Seriously, that thing would be ripped of within a week.

Actually, I didn't even mean by myself. I can imagine a group of kids walk by it in a parking lot and decide to hang on it just to see if they can get it to come off.

And Hyundai IS considering bringing it to the US Market in 2011 or 2012. Watch out Lincoln Towncar, Lexus LS460...

Thanks for the info.

I'm sure they are going to have to "water-down" the car for the US market (in order for it to be viable here they are going to have to keep the starting price below $50,000).

It looks nice, but don't think it would be something I'd ever be in the market for. At least not for another 40 years or so! laugh.gif

Well Alex, I would say that you definitely "nailed it".

I am currently 37 years your Senior, and when the Equus hits America, I will be down at the dealership taking a very serious look at the vehicle. I was getting fired up to buy a Genesis, but now, that has been put on "hold" until Equus arrives in USA.

That's maybe in 3 years and maybe never. Actually, if they do bring it over in 2011, would it even be the same generation/model anymore?

Ya, Equus has been a Korean only car. And with Hyundai's decision to nix luxury brand plans for now. Don't count on the Equus to come stateside.

Spy video of it driving Korea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkaAS37SNzw

Also, the video is titled "Genesis Premium," which is interesting. I mean with the Genesis Coupe V6, Genesis sedan and this new Equus / Genesis Premium, I could definitely see Hyundai launching a Genesis brand ala Lexus,Acura,Infinity.

An armoured bulletproof version will be built, at least for the Korean president.

Autoblog reports that Hyundai is shipping 100 specimens of the Equus to the USA for display at dealerships in order to gauge customer reaction...! [play dramatic music]
