ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ The Kia Zone _ 2006 Kia Rio 5 SX

Posted by: abrahanXD2 May 17 2010, 10:07 AM

I bought this 2006 Kia Rio 5 SX with 42,000 miles for only $4500.

The owner, a friend of my GF's, wanted $6000 for it and I jokingly said that I would give him $4500 for it.

I didn't know he had been trying to privately sell it since December and he accepted my offer.

$4500 and it has a 10 year / 100,000 warranty. DAMN!

My GF gave her mom her 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx (gas guzzler) and will be driving this Rio 5.

AND she has given me the green light to MOD it out.

...goes to look for the biggest tires I can put on it.

OH, and this was my 1000th post.

Cool, I think that generation/style of Rio hatchback is cute in a spunky way, with that black molding around it and that antenna on the roof.
Careful though, that the 10y/100k powertrain warranty probably does not transfer to you unless he bought an extension of the bumper-to-bumper warranty or something. Otherwise it'll be out of warranty within a year, but their quality's pretty good I think.

Well even if the warrenty doesn't carry over just have the freind that you bought it from take it to the dealer....

this.

we thought of this last night. he said he would be more than down to do it whenever needed.

Looks like a nice buy for a good price. Do they have the betaII in them or what?

Sweet deal! thumbsup.gif

Damn my 1000th post wasn't that long ago

Congrats on the new car. As far as the above, once you transfer title, you would be SOL. Hyundai wouldn't honor the warranty no matter who drove it in. But even so, you have yourself a nice car at a great price and you should have full warranty coverage for the next 18,000 miles or year or so (depending on when he originally bought it). Enjoy thumbsup.gif

The dealer might not check the registration if the first owner brought it in. That being said, it might be considered fraudulent...

I do like those Rio5's

Yea, what's the engine. Would it be the 1.6L that the Accent has?

What are the modding plans? 22s? laugh.gif

Posted by: abrahanXD2 May 21 2010, 09:47 AM

i was supposed to be off today but my temp called in sick
and the Rio was behind my Elantra so i drove it to work.

oh yeah, manual everything:

the way it picked up made me smile:

one thing i noticed is that it feels like its being held back when just coasting.
like, it i'm not pushing the gas, it totally feels like something is holding the car back.
i didn't notice that before.

Posted by: Bigs May 21 2010, 10:23 AM

Nice little car! We were looking at buying one new but the ONLY KIA dealer in my region would not deal. So we bought an Accent which is practically the same car!

Nice find and a good price!

Sounds like DFCO - deceleration fuel cut-off. The ECU turns off the fuel injectors and uses the engine as a compression brake to help you slow down and burn less gas.

Try this for me - when you go to coast, bump it into neutral - does the feeling stay or does it disappear?

alright, i did it and said feeling totally disappears when i move it into neutral.

That is a hell of a deal. I would love to find a deal like that for my daughter's first car which I will be buying by the end of fall.

Sweet Ride, but you don't want to be taking pictures while driving :^) Keep you mind on the road while driving! :^D

Kias have the same warranties as Hyundais: the 5-year, 60,000 mile warranty applies to all owners; the 10-year, 100k powertrain warranty ended when the original owner sold the car.

That's a great deal though. I paid almost that much for a '98 Mercury Tracer for my son to drive. When I bought the Elantra I looked hard at the Kia Rio, and really liked it, but didn't want to wait the extra few months for the hatchback, so I went with the Elantra.

That's DFCO then. It's supposed to do that. If you're coming up to a stop light/sign, leave it in gear to save the gas. If you want to just coast free for a while; for instance a very gentle downhill that you don't need to give it gas to hold speed on, bump to neutral and you'll roll easy without slowing down too fast from engine braking induced by DFCO.

the Kia ran out of gas on saturday, very near a gas station, but the light never turned on.
my GF told me that she's never seen it before.

the statement... "the Kia doesn't have a gas light" makes zero sense to me.

any ideas?

Posted by: slowgls Jul 5 2010, 05:42 PM

fail

I'm digging the manually controlled side-view mirrors.

the light came on AFTER you ran out of gas? Sounds like a problem there. You should have a reserve of at least 25 to 50 KM after the light comes on.

i installed a new/used stereo in the kia last night:

that last picture was right before i push the dash fascia into the dash.
- i didn't take a "final" after picture but it sounds great!

removing that dash section on the Rio 5 is way easier than removing the XD's dash.
its just that little section and there aren't any screws to remove/lose.

Posted by: jamhandman Jul 23 2010, 10:15 AM

Is there a noticeable improvement over the stock radio? What about the speakers?

Posted by: abrahanXD2 Jul 23 2010, 10:21 AM

there is a difference.
i'm not sure what kind of speakers the kia has but the aftermarket stereo makes it all sound brighter.

a lot like how my XD changed overall when i installed http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/uploads/registry_mod-1419-1221838270_thumb.jpg.

Not to sound skeptical, but I do speak from experience: It also makes it easier to steal the unit. Keep that faceplate with you, man...

oh i know, i got her a case and asked her to show it to me nightly.

PUT NEW TIRES OF THE KIA THIS PAST WEEKEND:

went from stock 195/60/15s to 205/65/15s (without any rubbing!)

looks all muscled up on 'roids:

and drives so much better now.

my GF was rear-ended in a common, heavy traffic-ed area in the Kia Rio 2 weeks ago:

she was at a complete stop too and was pushed into the car in front of her.

the rio was not as damaged as the truck that hit her (as you can see).

but that same truck also hit another truck before striking the Rio.

Posted by: mtlelantra Apr 25 2011, 06:02 PM

suxors.... hope she's ok and everything gets sorted out properly!

Posted by: abrahanXD2 Apr 25 2011, 06:50 PM

thnx. yeah i was rushing to leave the office as i was posting...

she's okay. hasn't complained about any pain or anything.

its totally drivable and the rear window should be getting replaced tonight.

the minor dings on the back door will have to be there for a little bit as the Rio wasn't covered for uninsured motorists.

oh yeah i didn't mention that part did i? a$$hole didn't have current insurance.

i'm already over it and the dude will be getting a bill from me.

i will be handing it to him at his court date for the 2 tickets he received the day of the collision.

Posted by: slowgls Apr 25 2011, 08:17 PM

That sucks man, hope every thing works out.

So here we are over 4 years later and my truck died on my last Tuesday.

The wife got a 2016 Kia Sorento last night and the Rio5 is now all mine. Feels good to have A/C again.

Will be continuing the Rio5 saga here. Already looking into a new Pioneer Stereo with Bluetooth. smile.gif
