Need to know what is a good set up for tire pressure on the Elantra. Im going to just run my Kuhmo platinum. Bob what did you run in your elantra?
start at 37 and chalk 'em dude. then bleed or add from there.
I know on the plat's when they were worn, I was able to run around 30-32 up front and I ran the rears around 42-45 (depending on surface/temps) definately chalk the fronts (don't bother with the rear). You want to rub them to the edge of the shoulder blocks on the outer edge and keep them there. the down side is you give up some crispness in turn in(think slaloms, you'll need to be way ahead of the game) but you'll get more overall lateral grip.
The Elantra almost always required a 10-12psi differential between the front and rears to get it to rotate. So... I would start with the front at 32, rear at 40 and drive it 2 runs checking the temps between to keep them the same. If it's loose, drop the rear pressure 2psi (Yeah, like that is going to happen!). If it's tight pump them up 2psi and run again.
Thanks Bob just what I was looking for.
Dont know if im going to make a ton of runs, but this is good info to have. I have to work the event and get to run for free. Going to put Kendra in for a few runs.
sounds like a perk of the job worth workin for..
kinda like free backstage pass and snack bar access lol
Alright, I'm an autox idiot and I'm curious. You say chalk your tires, what exactly do you mean? Like take chalkboard chalk and scribble all over the treads so you see your contact pattern after a run?
-Roy
like so :
Where we usually run, I can tell without chalk/marker because the surface is abrasive enough that fresh scuffs show up well. If you're not familiar with your tires or the surface doesn't generate much grip than marking the tires is a good thing to do.
Oh... and if you have a chance, throw in as much static camber as you can before the event.
Nice. Chalk your tires, have it your way. I see how this works.
-Roy
my slicks are heavily abraded, so i chalk the first run and if i'm happy i just run it and win it.
What do you mean by static camber?
car sitting on the suspension, as much negative camber as it can have. As the wheel compresses, that camber rate changes.... static camber is what is referred to as the amount of camber the wheel has at rest.
Oh ok. Yea the the needs some camber but the back seems to be fine.
Haha you guys are funny.
bike cops/metermaids in richmond chalk mine every hour on the hour

WHats a good brand to buy? Was going to check out amazon or ebay for camber bolts.
Dunno. I just bought cheap ones that were all metal from NAPA IIRC.
Ok. Are all the sizes the same?
These look ok,

Or these, but not for the price.

lol
i just derped... don't listen to me. i'm not on street tires and setup completely different
Pirate tires (we also refer to them as "Purple Crack") run a lot different tire pressures!
Here is the track i going to Sunday. A fun tight track.

Here is a fun track set up we do. So you have a idea of how we do. This supra is fast as hell.
Certainly had the back end stepping out a few times... but nice control.
Man, I miss racing.
Its around 500hp. The car sounds killer outside.
psssssshhh... only thing fast about that supra is that supra.
Well ended up not going this weekend. Had to update the plates on the car so we are 75 big ones less. Oh well. Still good info to have.
yes good info...
