Hey guys. So I got a new Elantra and whenever I fuel it I have to find the perfect angle for the nozzle to fuel it. I can't even set it down and let it fuel itself. I have to hold down the trigger. The dealership said its a normal thing that effects all of them. Anybody have some tips and tricks for fueling?
Also interested in knowing what kind of overall mpg you guys get? I get about 26-27. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I've got a 2001 Elantra Gls And I get around 27 mpg highway and 18 city
Have never had a problem fueling. Sounds like you have an Evap problem Sometimes the canister is clogged or the valve won't open The air has to escape to allow for fuel to enter the gas tank A clogged Evap canister or stuck valve can cause this problem Only guessing here. -------------------- Working hard, living proud

Hello, I'm new here. My first post on this forum. I too have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. I have an SE with the 1.8L engine with 6 speed auto transmission. I've never had such problems with the fuel nozzle. It's always good to keep the nozzle in your hand when fueling. Some fueling fires have happened in the winter months from people getting in the car to stay warm and then getting back out and grabbing the nozzle causing a static charge spark that started a fire.
As for the fuel economy, that depends. For my daily commute I leave the Eco button turned on and do light hypermiling techniques. Even with the AC running I can get between 34 to 35 mpg around town. If driving more normal it drops down to around 30 to 31 mpg. When bringing sister-in-law to and from her job, even with hypermiling techniques I average just barely over 30 because of the route and extra weight. The term "your mileage may vary" depends on the route you drive, how you accelerate, the speed you choose, and the amount of traffic. If you want to try to increase your fuel economy then try these little tricks. See a stop sign, red stop light, or a light that may turn red up ahead, take your foot off the gas or turn off the cruise control and coast as long as you can before pressing the brakes. Use cruise control as often as possible. If you're cruise control is already set then when taking off from a stop, accelerate to 20mph and hit resume on the cruise control and let it accelerate for you. Maintain your proper tire pressures. Get all the junk out the car & trunk to reduce vehicle weight. Look at all the paths you could take to your destination to choose the one with the least amount of traffic, least amount of stop signs/lights, and least amount of hills and over/under passes. Shortest route isn't necessarily the most fuel efficient. -------------------- A proud member of the club.
