If I had one thing I'd want to change right away would be the stupid wimpy horn in my 2013 Elantra. What would be the easiest and cheapest way to do that? I've never done anything like that before.

The manual notes that some models of Elantra should have an Auto headlight setting; mine does not. It does have a DLR OFF setting which is strange without a regular auto setting. So, I just leave my headlight selector in the ON position always, but the tail lights are also on. Is that as intended? Am I doing something wrong?

I just bought the new 2013 GLS. I really like the car. I can't believe all the features and functionality that come with that car.
I've been able to figure out most things in the car already. However, one thing is still a mystery. How, do you store music into the car's memory? I can't find out how to do that in any manual. Is there a link or document that I can use?
Also, is there a trick or any way I could stream Pandora or other internet music from my phone into the audio system?

Hi,
We just purchased our new Elantra GTS last Monday and so far I am loving it! First tank averaged ~37 mpg, hoping I can boost that even a bit more after the engine fully breaks in and the temps warm up more.
I do have a few questions which, if I took some time to read the owner's manual, would probably be answered there, but hey, this is a way to get to know you all.
First off, I had some spare tan seat covers that would have gone perfectly with my ruby red Elantra's tan interior, but luckily I read that s-type covers are a no-no with side airbags. So does anyone have a recommendation for seat covers that are okay? I have cloth interior and really want to keep the seats looking nice.
Secondly, I was surprised the other day when I exited the car without turning out the headlights to not hear warning chimes. I thought this sort of feature was pretty much standard these days. For that matter, no low light sensor to automatically switch on the headlights in dim conditions? Again, I haven't purchased a new car in 5 years, but thought this was pretty standard these days.
Thanks,
Karen

Hi guys I am a new here and have a question on hard start with my Hyundai. So here we go I have an 03 Elantra GLS 2.0L (40,000miles) and after sitting over night you need to turn the key off and on 3 times to get it to fire up. Once it starts it runs fine all day no problems even after sitting 8 1/2 hrs till I am done work. This is what I have done to try and fix the problem with no luck, Plugs, wires, fuel pressure regulator, cleaned map sensor, cleaned throttle body, checked for vacum leaks (none), new evap purge valve and fuel cap. Please Help!!!! Thanks

Hi all.
I'm from Illinois and own a 2008 GLS. I'm going shopping tomorrow for a 2013.
BTW, anyone know if the 2008 spare tire fits the 2013?

Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ryan, I'm from Deer Park, Texas and I just purchased a Black 2013 Elantra GLS. I traded in my jeep because I needed something with better gas mileage, so I checked out Hyundai and little did I know I was buying one hell of a car. I plan to black out my E and look forward to many wonderful years with her. Thanks for welcoming me.
So a question, how exactly does one apply plasti-dip to the wheels? also I heard if you get plasti-dip on lets say the paint, it will just rub off, is this true? thanks.

Hey forum, glad to be here.
I'm buying an 07 GLS with 127k tomorrow in Northern VA, DC area for $5k. It drives nice, plenty of power, and it seemed to be in great condition. It was pouring rain today, and other than not having a clue how to work wipers and defogger at first, I didn't have a reason to feel nervous at 45 mph. It's a manual; it has a pretty long clutch. It felt forgiving to a person not used to driving a manual this new. I'm not the most affluent person, you see.
I wanted to know what special problems I should look for in a car with this many miles, and I knew a forum like this would be a great resource. It's going to a mechanic tomorrow morning before I pull the trigger, but what issues do you know, for which I ought to look out?
Thanks, and hopefully I'll be the owner of an Elantra tomorrow and a member of this forum for years to come.

I hate to beat the spare tire dead horse a little more, but here it goes:
I bought a 2013 Elantra limited (17" wheels) and want to get a real spare in lieu of the can of foam provided:
I sent Hyundai an email asking if there was an optional Hyundai part spart tire I could buy for my 2013 Elantra, they referred me to the dealer where I bought the car.
The car dealer "parts guy" said there is no spare tire kit (only the foam) for the 2013 Elantra, though he could sell me a new alloy rim and tire for arond $1k, told him thanks but no thanks. He also said he didn't know if lug patterns have changed between the 2012 and 2013 when I asked him if the 2012 spare tire kit (part # 09100-3Y111) would work on a 2013.
From what I read in other threads and seen online are spare tire options for the 2011/2012 Elantra:
compact spare (low -mid $200) (Hyundai part # 09100-3Y111)
http://www.amazon.com/Hyundai-09100-3Y111-...a/dp/B006ENU4RQmid-size spare (around $300) (looks to be a custom build?, no Hyundai part #)
http://www.hyundaiaccessorystore.com/hyund...e_tire_kit.htmlMy questions are:
Has the Lug pattern changed from a 2011/2012 to a 2013?
Will these 2011/2012 spare tire options work on a 2013 Elantra Limited?
I am leaning toward the mid-size spare for the few extra $, does anyone have experience with this web company or this spare kit?
Thanks for your help,
Rob

Hello I am a new and very happy owner of a 2013 Elantra Coupe GS. After a week of owning this beautiful zippy car I must say "It is Amazing!" I have noticed it has turned heads, this straight off the show room floor. I do want to do some modifications to personalize it to ME. I do have some mild questions. It is a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe GS. With my limited knowledge of the body style and motor I am completely lost at what I can look for to mod this beauty out. I believe i can go back as far as 2011 to find some items but with it being a coupe and knowing the car is slightly different than the sedan I am stuck I am hoping some of the awesome people from this site can help a FNG out. Please and Thanks!
I have plenty of ideas in my head of what I want it to look like and in the process of actually drawing out the plans. I do not want to tweak the engine to much because of the warranty. I am hoping for some reverse adds or mods I can do myself. If for some reason i need to take her into the hyundai house i can put it back to stock.
I really really like the black paint, but i would like to possibly blackout the rims and make the calipers red. My idea is to make it black and red. I have been looking at Red lights (HID, Halos, LEDs...etc.)

Hi all,
A little about me: I don't own nor never have owned or driven a Hyundai. I'm here to learn more about the Elantra as I'm planning to buy a new car in about a year. The Elantra as well as the Dart and the Focus are the main cars I'm considering.
I believe the Elantra GT maybe a good replacement for my 2004 PT Cruiser.

Picked it up about a week ago for $3000
There are a couple of minor issues, the rear driver side window does not move from its closed position, and from the driver control panel the passenger window can be moved down but not up (however the window goes up fine when controlled from the passenger side) - I'm thinking maybe I will do the mod to make both windows move at the same time, hopefully that will nullify that issue.
Today a couple of issues showed up - the e-brake light decided it would like to stay on all the time, and then later on unrelated to the e-brake thing, the brakes started to feel very very soft - like foot to the floor before anything happens. Not cool. Would that be a brake fluid issue I wonder?
Either way I have an appointment to take it to a local mechanic I like to get a new timing belt on it, and I'll get him to look everything over.
Other than the brakes thing, which hopefully will be easy to fix, I'm extremely happy with this car. Everything else is in really nice shape, almost no scratches in any of the interior, it all feels great. Coming from driving a 2000 CRV for 6 years where it would feel like you're about to fall over if you take a quick corner, this GT is a breath of fresh air. It loves the twisty bumpy roads in my area and is getting me around 6.5 L/100km (90% hwy driving at 90km/h).
Planning to do the simple air intake mod and put in one of those nice filters but that's probably as far as I'll go in terms of mods... maybe something with the shifter, I like the sounds of that one too. I did put in that JVC head unit as my first job It sounds great.

Hi just picked up a 2011 CPO Elantra Limited. A good little car. My first Hyundai. Kind of reminds me of the old Honda's from the early 80's. Well built and fun to drive. Needed a daily driver. This should do the trick!

I use USB to play all my music but sometimes the sound system won't read it and play so I was wondering if maybe the size of my flash drive is too big. Does anyone know what the max size the sound system will handle?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks for listening.

Right now I have a 2010 Hyundai Accent (5 speed - Hatchback) and after looking through other threads on here I have compiled a list of upgrades that I believe would make my car stand out from the rest! So here they are:
1.5-2 inch drop
Tint windows the darkest I could legally
Rims (white with purple lip)
Debadge except for the Hyundai symbol and get it painted the same purple as the lip of the rims
Get the car painted white
Shark fin antenna
Audio system
Cold air intake
Body kit
And that's all I could really find that I would want to do.
The paint job, rims and body kit would probably be the last thing I would do since it would require some savings since I do not know how to paint cars myself.
Also, the only place I could find the suspension drop coils are from kfxperformance. After looking up reviews about them they have very mixed from absolutely terrible to perfect customer service. Anyone have experience with them?
Other than that if anyone could point me in the proper direction to being purchasing these that would be great or have any input about other possible mods I could do.
Thank you for any help in advance!

So as I've posted in the "Icy" thread, My oldest daughter has been caught in our lil web; that is to say that she bought a 2005 Elantra GT!
She did her first Mod's today to it:
Ok, after the coffee mod, we did the obligatory headlight buffing/yellowing:
She worked on removing all dealership decals and Hyundai decals:
Second mod? A Beagle decal and matching dogs......

Just bought a 2013 Elantra GLS yesterday and found this site today when I googled Elantra seat covers, only had it a day but seems like a HUGE improvement over the PT Cruiser we traded in. It is a great looking and driving car, hope to have it for many years.

My 2010 Elantra, automatic transmission is great. But when driving through a puddle, the transmission seems to slip out of gear, the RPM's increase dramatically for a few seconds, then a loud clunk happens and the transmission shifts back into gear. This has happened at 60 mph and at 30 mph. The dealer said I was hydroplaning. I think not. The tranny wouldn't be revving that high and making a loud noise getting back into the proper gear. Any thoughts? Thank-you!

Any common issues with this model I should be aware of and if so, any preventable measures I should take? I was also wondering if I should take specific care of the car. I have only owned a 87' prelude and it had a few issues so I was at a shop about every other month and I want to avoid that since I don't have huge amounts to continuously spend on repairs.
Also, personalization: any interior/exterior mods I could purchase to make it my own personal accent? If so some trustworthy links would be greatly appreciated!
And my last question! Any way to get some more HP or faster acceleration out of it? Today (the first full day I've owned it) I was going onto the interstate and it switched from 25 MPH to 55 MPH and it seemed like it to a little bit to get kicking compared to two other cars behind me. If someone has some information on that I'd appreciate it as well!
I did some googling myself and found a website KSX Performance. Anyone have experience dealing with them?
Thank you for any help in advance!

My entire life I've driven a Mustang and could do most of what I needed to on my own and if not my daddy helped me (don't laugh, I am I girl) but my '99 blew a head gasket last month and I bought an '04 Elantra GT on craigslist last week. Needless to say it needs a bit of TLC on outward appearances. So I've taken care of what I can but my fog lights are OUT. I guess it could be a fuse, or even both bulbs but if anyone has advice help a sista out here please?

Hello to all, first time poster in this forum. Was a member of hyundaiperformance.com before it's demise, but...anyway. I have an '07 Elantra GLS currently with 103,000 miles on the clock. We previously owned an '02 GLS as well.
Recently I've encountered a problem and I wonder if anyone has any ideas. My A/C, heater won't blow air at all. I can tell that hot air and cold air are being produced, they're just not being "blown" through the vents.
I did a little research and found that my problem could be my blower motor resistor, so I purchased a new one (genuine HMA part) and installed it - with no success. Now I'm at a loss as to what else it might be. Any ideas?
That little bugger was a PITA to take off and put on, but easy enough. But it didn't solve my problem.
A little more info: The ac stopped working one day and didn't work for weeks, then one cold morning it just all of a sudden started blowing out air again. If this sounds familiar to anyone, I'd love some guidance. The service guys were all "sure, we'll diagnose it...for $175! And since I just spent 50 on the resistor that I can't return, I'm not really in the mood to spend more if I can figure out what's wrong myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hello all, I'm a new member and am looking for advice before heading out to look at a couple '05 Elantra hatchbacks.
I will give a "proper" introduction soon enough, forgive me if I'm a bit rushed at the moment but it occurred to me that maybe I should join a forum for advice while still in the process of looking for a car.
I've zeroed in on the hatchback as I like the practicality of having the storage area, plus I think they're a great looking car. I've done a bit of homework and the thing that keeps popping up everywhere is that they seem to be pretty reliable as long as maintenance is kept up.
(60,000 mile timing belt replacement!!!)
Also the o2 sensors seem to be questionable??
In addition to any practical advice on what to look for as I kick the tires, I'd also like advice on pricing.
The two cars in my area (both an hours drive away but in different directions) are priced at $5,950 with 82K on the clock and $5,495 with 115K.
Both are from small independent dealers, both offer a 6 month warranty.
I know I can negotiate with them, salespeople from both dealerships have told me they can bring the price down a bit if I pay in cash and also take the warranty out of the equation for further savings.
My target price is $4,500, anything over that and I'll have to work out financing or consider trading in my '01 Jeep Liberty.
I don't want to do that as I really want to keep it for a second vehicle, especially for nasty winter weather.
So is $4,500 realistic? Or would that be considered a lowball offer?
Well, anyway I am literally out the door in the next hour to go look at the first one, so I'm going to check the site on my phone when I get there and see if anyone has responded.
Thanks in advance and wish me luck! And when I do pick a car I'll be sure to stop by often to learn and get to know the community.
-Trevor

I previously owned a 2002 standard Elantra GT. The gear shift was always smooth and quiet even at 194,000km. I purchased this 2010 Elantra Touring model with 73,000 km one month ago and the gear shift is really clunky. Has anyone had this experience.
