Overall, I like it but it looks more like a refresh than the completely new generation (AD) it is.

The exterior looks like they went with a lot of "me, too" cues. The interior looks a lot better than the spy shots posted before, but I'm not sold on it. Do we have any sort of performance specs? Is it going to be more like the HD, with a nod more to fuel efficiency than a bit of sportiness?

On second glance, I do like the big dials for the gauges... now if only they had real needles. I'm old-school like that. Sure hope it comes with 3 pedals, too.

Its better looking than the last picture we saw, but still not great. The interior i guess isnt bad. It nice and well laid out.

Like it did with the Sonata, Hyundai has retreated from taking risks and has produced a more sedate, less stylized vehicle. The result will be the same: lower sales. The MD generation cars had innovative styling that said that small economy cars could be stylish and pleasant to live with on an everyday basis. Rather than continuing to innovate Hyundai chooses to try to "play it safe" with less inspiring vehicles. If you are not at the front of the pack, you are falling behind. The latest Sonata and the 2017 Elantra are not front of the pack vehicles, they are watered down, characterless revisions of the previous versions. The pizzaz has gone, I'll stick with my 2013 Elantra.

I actually like 'em quite a bit, but I like my '05 better. cool.gif

The '01-'06 Elantra had unique styling. There's still nothing else on the road that looks like the hatch versions.

Sales will be driven (ha) by hard numbers as well as looks. It's a decent looking car and though it may be derivative, most cars in this segment are its one way to keep costs down and sell the thing for a reasonable value. So as long as they can put this out there with some nice price points in various trim levels and show some good performance numbers, they'll do fine. They've firmly established themselves as a cost leader by now I would think.

Indeed, hard to beat that styling for such an inexpensive car. At 10 years/121K, my GT hatch is still going strong and looks in good shape (minus the dings from idiots in parking lots).

I couldn't tell you how many times people around here (small town...about 1000 people. lol) used to compliment my old GT and ask me what it was. I haven't driven my GLS as much yet, as I got it in August, but I'm sure I'll have someone ask what it is. lol And BTW, my hatch is the ONLY one in this area that I've seen. I like to drive unique vehicles. cool.gif

EDIT: Just realized that Wednesday will make exactly 9 years since I bought my GT. Wow.
