I was reading Autoblog and came upon some interesting stuff on the new Forte. I am intigued as to why Kia gets to put the 173 hp 2.4 liter 4 into it's new Forte. Even the lower end car is graced with 156 hp out of it's engine. The up model also features a 6 speed manual transmission. The only thing I woould want more is a 5 door hatchback model and I would be in the dealer leaving a deposit. You can follow the link to see pictures and read the article. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/11/chicago...-into-chi-town/

looks like a combination of a ford focus and a new honda civic to me.

but i like it, i would rock it instead of the elantra. that 2.4L with 173hp sounds nice

This is consistent with Hyundai's stated goal of differentiating the brands- Kia = sporty, Hyundai = luxo. For the Hyundai fans here, though, that's a little bit of a disappointment.

5dr hatch and I'm sold

still curious as to why Hyundai released the Genesis Coupe rather than making it a KIA if they're really wanting to differentiate the brands... someone didn't fully think that through

I'm with sarge on that. I mean think about it. The Genesis sedan is a luxurious high end sedan. The Genesis Coupe is a completely different animal... where is Hyundai's consistency?

We all know the Elantra HD is a bland vehicle. Yeah, it's well made and reliable but few enthusiasts drive one. Hyundai could have brought over the somewhat more sporty, euro tuned i30 hatch. Instead they went to the blander wagon.

The Kia Forte on the other hand has some enthusiast potential for sure. For those who don't remember, this is a watered down version of the hot Kia Koup concept.

Finally, they're putting some actual truth in that claim of making Kia the "sporty" brand. Took a while.
So, yeah, I would totally buy a Kia Forte 2.4L over a Hyundai Elantra. The 5-door Touring is the only thing that gives me pause... badge it a Kia C'eed SW, put the 2.4L in there...

How sweet does...

173 hp @ 6,000
168 lbs/ft @ 4,000

sound? drooling.gif

Flcerberus is right. These should've been the kind of numbers the new Elantra had. At least optionally.

Never thought I'd be drooling over a Kia. tongue.gif
