I know for the HD we have stock component speakers. I don't remember sizes though (anyone wanna help me out there? I forgot to measure last time I took off my doors)

I'm thinking about upgrading and amping my speakers to make my 15" sub more complete and less lonely so I have full audio amazingness. I just got two JL tweeters in the front but it wasn't much of an improvement without amping them.

Anyway, I was wondering if I could get speakers (not component speakers where the woofer and tweeter are separate) and put them where the small mid woofer is. I think they are 6 1/2" in front (once again someone help me I forget).

If I did that, could I keep my tweeters in? Have them play off the stock stereo still and then have tweeters from my new speakers and the jl ones playing from the headunit? Does that make sense? Or will having one pair amped and one not just sound like crap.

Yes you can do want you want to do. I would wire as much as you can off the amps. Cleaner sound that way.
Here is a set of mid bass for the doors.

http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Midba...ker/XM68HC.aspx

Keep your tweets. Then i would put a set of 6x9 for the rear.

http://www.audiosavings.com/products/6x9-C...VY+ONES%29.aspx

And here is a great 4 channel amp for it all.

I've talked to a number of people about this now. I think I have a plan. I'm looking to spend around $200-250 on this. I will be getting component 6 1/2's in the front and coaxial 6 1/2's in the back. The fronts I care more about and will spend more money on. I will also amp them. Looking for around a 400-600 watt 4 channel amp. I'd like for the midbass drivers to be around 100 watts rms if possible and be able to hit around 60 hz. If anyone knows a good set up that would be like that, and in my price range, please let me know. (If I don't get after market rear speakers right now, so be it, that's fine.)

Slow, I appreciate the research. The amp looks great but I probably want to put a little more into the speakers than amp and that's taking up half my budget. As for the midbass - I don't know that brand and honestly don't trust it. Plus the frequency doesn't hit low enough for me.

Just put Kicker ks65s 6.5 inch in all 4 doors of my optima and ive owned over 20 cars and too many home systems to mention yeah im old. But i love the kickers they retail at 100 or so a pair but can be found online in the 60s. I did add a sub but it really wasnt needed the Kickers had decent bass for 6.5 inchers. My head unit puts out 45watts x4 at 4ohms and its perfect with out an amp for the Kickers. Not sure what the stock head unit your Elantra puts out but if its under 20w you will want an amp for decent speakers. The chinese are making some nice touch screen systems for our cars now really cheap. They also make oem systems for lots of the major manufactures.

I have a set in my front doors. They sound great even unamped.

Yea I've got 20 rms from my aftermarket headunit. I'll definitely be amping it, especially since I already have the power cable running to my mono amp so setting up a new one shouldn't be too hard. And I'll look into those kickers.

Now for the 6.5's should I be looking at shallow mount? I don't know if I've got 2.5" depth from the windows or not. Anyone have experience there?

Not sure on the shallow mounts my Elantra was a 2006, I put the Kickers in the 2011 Optima no issues. They do come in both coax and component models at 6.5 inch though so check that not sure price difference i didnt touch the tweeters in the dash just put coax in all 4 doors. You could go to Crutchfield.com to see if they fit but you can find them cheaper on Amazon.

Well after receiving a bunch of graduation money ( symbol-dollarsign.gif symbol-dollarsign.gif symbol-dollarsign.gif ) I just bought my speaker stuff =]

I changed up a few things so that I would have a slightly higher quality system than what I posted before.

Power Acoustik OVN4-1600 ($120 + $14 warranty) ... I know it's probably an over rated amp and is not 150 rms but I only need 100 rms anyway. Reviews are great and I love my Power Acoustik headunit so I trust them.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17525_...-OVN4-1600.html

Polk Audio DB6501 Components for the front ($112)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P0R6L...ils_o00_s00_i00

Pioneer TS-D1602R 6.5 for the rear ($75)

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11269_...-TS-D1602R.html

Tsunami 4 way RCA cable ($15)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001LYOI7...ils_o00_s00_i01

RCA AH16100SN 100 ft 16 gauge speaker wire ($10)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029HHID...ils_o00_s00_i02

1 Pair of PVC Speaker Adapters ($16) .... The components for the front come with their own.

http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK058

Adding everything up, total comes to roughly $350. This better be a damn good system. Can't wait to hear some of these mids! You guys think this set up should be alright? Or is there something I'm missing? I just put the order for all these in tonight (using affiliate links so hopefully it worked Mitch!

Only thing i would have done different is, did the polks all the way around. Cant wait to hear it.

The reason I didn't stick to the polks in the rear is they were only 50 rms. This amp supposedly puts out 150. I didn't want to risk damaging them in any way. I switched to pioneers with minimal more cost and higher rms. Also, most of my sound that I care about will be from the fronts, not the rears which is why I'm more willing to spend money on the components in the front
