This sucks. Much worse than I had thought. I'm cutting out everything that has rest on it... I'll patch a lot with fiberglass, and some with metal. I just got a welder, but I have no welding skills!

F*&K YOU CENTRAL NEW YORK!

Wish me luck...

Before you get all down and dirty double check you aren't perforating underneath too. Otherwise you will just be wasting your time.

If you get yours tackled nicely, you're more than welcome to come out to MI and practice on mine as well. Of course, I'll need to get new front fenders before that... but, you know, details.

Honestly, the only part I'm worried about are the bottom corners. But... they're covered with the rear bumper so they can look like crap and I won't see it smile.gif

That right there is the entire reason I no longer have the Elantra. On mine, the rear quarters started, but the worst was the front subframe to coresupport. It was almost punctured on the drivers side.
After 11 years and 170k miles, I called it quits.

I hear you Bob. My frame and core are still good, so I'm fortunate there.

Made some progress today; as much as I'd like to cut EVERYTHING off that shows signs of corrosion, I can't. Some I can't reach, and some areas I need to support the fiberglass. I'm grinding down as much as I possibly can, then using Rust Reformer on what I can't eliminate. I know this is amateur, but I'm confident I'll be able to get at least a few years with these repairs.

The hitch came out alright. I couldn't get to the area behind where the chains attach to, but otherwise ground it down to bare metal. I hit it with Rust Reformer, and coated the whole thing with Rustoleum. I also undercoated the bottom of it.

If I have time before winter (I still need to buff wax it) I'll do some more grinding underneath and undercoat the bottom.. Time...
