I know this sounds stupid, but can any XD/XD2 owners tell me where the cable that attaches from the glove box to the car is located? I'm referring to the one that lowers the glove box down gradually. I see the hole on the glove box, but the cable must have retracted somewhere I can't find.

I must have taken it off years ago to repaint it and I cannot find it anywhere!

Open the glove box to gain access to its mounting hardware. Loosen the bolts that secure it and safely lower the glove box. Access the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism will be held in place with several screws, loosen them and remove it. Install the new locking mechanism. Compare the new locking mechanism with the old and ensure they are the same components. Once affirmed, mount the new mechanism to the glove box. Reinstall the glove box. Mount the glove box back to its original position and close it.
