Since I bought my 2011 Elantra touring I have found it quite noisy.
I can hardly speak with my wife when driving in the rain and music needs to be loud for me to hear any words.
The noise seems to be a good mix of engine (3200rpm at 118 km/h(73mph)), wind noise and tire noise

This morning I downloaded a decibel meter on my iphone and measured on my way to work with no talking and no radio
I got an average of 77db on streets and 80db on the highway at 118km/h(73mph)

what are you guys getting?

I found my Elantra noisy & I come from smaller cars & the noisy Dodge Caliber. However, our state has experimental "quiet pavement" in a few spots, & Elantra becomes elegantly quiet. With the road & tire noise reduced, wind noise is found to be low. Using 100% (ethanol-free) gasoline, which promotes engine smoothness, engine noise is quiet.

I tried a new 2014 elantra GT at the dealer and barely noticed a difference in noise(3db)

Feel however that mine had much more wind noise
For step 1 I just ordered the windkeeper sillicone trims for SharkRacing.
We shall see if this helps a bit.

For stage 2 I have a full car kit of dynamat that will be installed this summer

I saw that Windkeeper product not long ago. Looked interesting, let us know how it goes.

I received the package last week.
Shipping from Shark racing impressed me as this was much faster then mentionned on the website.

The part itself looks a bit cheap, comes in 2 rolls in 2 seperate transparent bags with no labelling or instructions.
Looking at it, I'm wondering if this will actually stay in place and if it will make any difference at all.
I assume they send 1 bag for 2 door cars and 2 bags for 4 doors. Very generic stuff that probably fit anything on this planet.

It is crazy cold right now here so i'll wait for warmer weather to install it

Quick status update on the silicone trims
I installed on the driver door last night
I would rate the install complexity to 1/10 (anybody with 2 hands could do this)
install time: 15 minutes

I took the black trims and it looks very oem, you would need to be a touring owner and stared at your trim to notice something is different.

I did test drive to work this morning, DB meter did not show much changes as the average was 78db
However the feeling was as if I had 1 hear blocked, the ear on the side of the door i did.
I'm worried this is just placebo effect as it sounds too good to be true.

I'll try to do the other doors this week and provide another update then

on a side note it doesn't look like i'll have enough to do all doors, might be missing a feet or two at the end

I installed the passenger door yesterday
Could not do rear doors as you need to remove the back seat bottom in order to remover the plastic skid plate(silly design)

So far I feel like most of the wind noise is gone from the car but db meter is not showing any differences.
I guess the noise making the db to that level is tire noise as I definetly hear less wind noise, sadly I can't quantity this improvement

Haven't done the back door yet but I did changed to my summer tires
The noise is much better but the db meter still shows the same avg 79db
I'm thinking that my measuring process is wrong and wonderng now how i will be able to quantify the gains of this modification.

Also I noticed that while I see a difference right after doing a change, takes only a week to get used to the new level and finding the car noisy again...I think I'm fighting a neverending battle here.

Thanks for reporting back thumbsup.gif
Sounds like it does help wind noise, but something else would have to combat road noise. Different tyres and some deadening perhaps? There's probably only so far you can go.
