On Friday, I'm going over to Van Hyundai to do some test drives (Tucson, as well as Elantra and Elantra Touring). Can anyone recommend a good course for a proper test drive? I'm a first-time new car buyer.

Don't know the area, but I can bet the salesman / dealership has a generic route. Be sure it takes you on a good mix of roads. (Accelrating onto an on ramp, bumpy & windy perhaps with a railroad crossing, up a hill from a stop etc.)
My last test drive was in a town I'm unfamiliar with since I traveled a ways to find the car I wanted. Normal route didn't have any highway so after we finished I just asked and the salesman put me in the right direction. Don't be rushed and make mental notes of what you like / don't like in each car. I often have to tell the salesman that we will keep the radio off and have a quiet drive so I can concentrate on my impressions. Too often, they wan't to chat away about this and that to get a feel of what kind of 'buyer' you might be. Enjoy it but don't be pressured into anything or feel uncomfortable about taking off and returning another day. As far as I know, they are still churning out cars at the factories so there is not reason to 'buy today'. -------------------- |

Oh, don't worry. I've made it pretty clear that we have no intention of being talked into buying yet. I will not tolerate being pressured when there's so much $$ at stake.
Thanks for the advice. I'll probably just go with the salesman's route (as long as it includes a good variety of driving conditions. Cheers, -Brian* -------------------- A proud member of the club.
