Most shops will try to sell you the install kit and wiring harness because according to their "computer", it says an install kit is required. There are options on how to install a headunit, but some headunits will not have the screw holes that line up with the stock holes, so a kit and installing it using the mounting sleeve and an install kit is the only option.
Stauf, what Al&Eds said about the warranty requiring installation is not all lies. Allot of Car audio manufactures will not give you a warranty or will only give you 1/3 of the warranty if it is not installed by a "professional" installer. This is because 90% of all returns can usually be traced back to improper installation and there is no way for them to know if you or your "installer buddy" even knows or understand basic electricity. I have seen some people do some real stupid things and fry allot of expensive equipment because they THOUGHT they knew what they were doing. And car audio manufactures have also seen and figured this out. If the shop makes a mistake, the manufacture can debate it with them, charge them for it, or if it happens often enough, revoke their authorized dealer status. But when you have to argue with a customer and tell him the product fried because of his mistakes, you are more likely going to lose that customer and he will blame the product for the failure and look at the companies refusal to fix it for free as bad customer service. But if they fixed everybodies mistakes for free, they would go bankrupt in no time.

there are metra kits that are made for each make/model and also ones made for each stereo where you dont even have to splice anything ... you just plug into factory and into radio and your done.

Just got my kit today also. Thank you Equus and Stauf for coming through and getting these for use. I know this took allot more work then first planned, and allot of others would have just refunded the money and called it a day. But you guys went through allot of extra work and trouble to take care of us and make this happen. Once again, thank you gentlemen for your time and hard work

Whoops...  My bad..  Everyone should be receiving them this week so go out and buy your HU's so you can get your tunes thumpin this weekend..  B)    I know I'm tryin to find something on the cheap 'till I can pay for the good stuff..  lol

Oh and here's a Q for ya..  Where can we find the harness adapters?  Good ones tho..  lol    And as Gel said, stay away from retail places..    Personally, I'd stay away from installers period.  LSS, I took a Saturn SC2 to Al & Eds to have speakers put in, owner wanted the waranty so they had to install (BS imo), anyhow, they didn't do a quality job either.  No dynamat, no adapter rings (6.5 in 7 space) and they hacked the factory connectors off..  Remember, Al & Eds is strictly a car audio/video place...  I may buy stuff there cuz you can talk a deal, but never have anything installed.

If you buy the headunit from Crutchfield also, the wiring and install adapters are free.

Thanks Stauf and Equus for putting in your time to make this happen. The HU kit is very nice, now I just need a new HU and an Infinity Basslink.
