The 2006 Accent looks a lot less Korean and more conservetive like the Japanese contenders. I'm not very fond of the front end styling, The Grille is almost the same as the Toyota Echo.

From what I remember Hyundai havn't used the SOHC 1.5 Alpha since 1997 in the bubble Accent/Excel.

Although the 1.3litre in the Getz is still SOHC. The 1.5 is DOHC same as what was used in the Accent until the 1.6 was introduced.

I wish the Elantra was available as a turbo diesel where i am.

A few months ago I had a ride in the Terracan CRDi 2.9 (Common Rail Turbo Diesel) ... It was very impressive, quiet, no trucky sound and plenty of torque in the low rev range. Average fuel consumption was only 10.1 Litres / 100km!

The Terracan has been a big success in country areas around here.

the 1.5 SOHC was used here in the us until 02 I believe. It's the "updated" version of the 1.5 used in the first gen accents.

Some say not enough HP? If I want HP, that would not be the car I would buy! With gas prices going nuts, O would be happy to have a small car with less HP! Man poor people in SUV's.

Oh ok, im not to sure about the US, but here in Aust. the DOHC Alpha made its appearance in the 1997 Accent/Excel with a Twin Cam badge on the back. Here the SOHC hasnt been seen since 1997 in the 1.5, but in 2003 the 1.3 SOHC Getz is the only Hyundai to have SOHC in the current model line-up.

QUOTE (Gearcat @ Jun 29 2005, 09:37 AM)
That's just it ... poor people don't drive SUVs.  They are gluttons though, and one day when we are all riding horses to work, they'll wish they would have conserved a little more fuel.

I'd love another Mustang GT but 14-15 MPG is just not enough with the current fuel prices.

My Elantra consistantly gets an average of 25 MPG (mostly city driving) and that is the bottom of the scale as far as what I will consider in a vehicle for everyday driving.  More mileage would be much nicer.  With the muffler change, I am now getting the same fuel economy out of my auto as I did with my manual Elantra.
*

It was just a figure of speech! rofl.gif But it's funny to hear them complain!

My GT is OK on gas. It's hard since I have a magnaflow and my sway bar! It's hard on gas and tires!

Not all SUV's are gluttons, thank you very much. My wife's Suzuki is a capable offroader and she can get24/25mpg out of it. Me on the other hand can barely get 23 in her car. But I have bigger shoes, yeah that's it.

Don't forget gearcat that the 6.5td suburbans got 22-24mpg on the highway and with tweaks saw 25+.

Lumping any category together is tough because not everybody builds things the same. Ford and especially chrysler have never been know for high mpg cars or trucks.

I nned to dig the pics out of our "cute ute" tackling some of arizonas best. Offroading 1600 miles from home probably isn't the smartest idea though. We actualy broke our radar detecter that was mounted on the windshield. Shook it up so bad the circuit board seperated from the power source!

Oh how I wish I could find a 99 4dr tahoe 6.5td. . . . . . . .

...Woah! I hope mine doesnt have a sloppy linkage and numb clutch...i'd cry sad.gif

Those little Suziki SUV's are great fun. Driving them all comes down to skill, not all these stupid stability programs that makes the driver think they are the king of the off-road.
