Hyundai unveiled a good-looking new design for its Santa Fe mid-size crossover at the New York Auto Show today that offers a new turbo engineoptions and has a new long-wheelbase model that offers a third row for the first time. The crossover, which goes on sale this summer, gets a less-swoopy version of the brand's "fluidic sculpture" design theme. It's about the size of the current model but has shed a few pounds.
Three models now will be offered: Santa Fe Sport (the base 2-row, 5-passenger) , Santa Fe Sport 2.0T (the turbo) and the long-wheelbase 7-passenger family hauler Santa Fe. As with Sonata, Hyundai has dropped the V6 option for the regular Santa Fe in favor of a direct-injection four with higher fuel economy. The six will be standard for the stretched Santa Fe. The base engine will be Hyundai's GDI "theta" 2.4-liter four, rated at 190 horsepower and getting an estimated 33 mpg highway with front-wheel drive. The 2.0T model gets 2-liter turbo rated 264 hp and getting an estimate 31 mpg highway. The stretch model V6 is 3.3-liter, 290 hp. All are mated to six-speed automatics and offer front- or all-wheel drive. Upscale features offered include a panoramic sunroof and heated front and rear seats and steering wheel. The longer family model will offer a blind spot detection safety system. A new navi and entertainment system will offer an 8-inch touchscreen. -------------------- |

That looks really nice actually. I wish a larger SUV was in my budget, I have far too much crap that requires transportation...maybe in 5 years when the budget gets larger. Maybe it's me, but that screen for the A/V system looks mighty small

From this article:
"The bigger vehicle also gets a bigger heart in the form of the 3.3-liter GDI V-6 engine that we saw previously debut under the hood of the Hyundai Azera. Power is estimated at 290 horsepower and the towing capacity is increased to 3,500 pounds." Hmmmm, definitely could see one in our future if we buy a slightly smaller trailer. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I've always loved the Santa Fe. One of my favorite SUV's. They ride well and are very spacious. I prefer it over my moms CR-V. She does too - there just wasn't one available in her budget at the time

It's been confirmed that the longer version of the Santa Fe will be the replacement for the Veracruz, which is being phased out.

Yeah, I kind of figured the Veracruz would go away with that.

Very very nice. I know the wife loves her 2011 Tucson. If we were in the market for another SUV, the new Santa Fe is likely what we'd end up with.

I really like it. Will probably replace the Entourage in a few years with the big one.

We love ours! We got it 9-30-12 and love it!
It gets 26mpg real time city and highway mixed. We got the panoramic roof, the heated front and rear seats and the 8" screen. It's much bigger in person than these pics. The NAV system has SAT and is all touch screen. The gripe list is: *To close the sunroof entirely closes the cover all the way, you can't just close the sunroof and leave the cover open. You close it totally and then reopen the cover. *Not a fan of the BlueLink found on almost any Hyundai model. *The Bluetooth doesn't always end the call when you do. That's pretty much it but we've only worn her out for 5,000 miles. Otherwise she's pretty wicked looking little ride. We really do love this one! Oh yeah, the oil filters are spin off, Hyundai did away with the canister ones on previous models. That's a plus. -------------------- |
