Hi all.. as always, sorry I'm not around much. Busy busy busy... against my better judgement, I decided to give my car a complete makeover. I'm starting with the interior. Almost everything is stripped out. I'm going to clean everything and add a little more sound deadening. I might paint the headliner to match the rear deck which I painted black.. but I think I'll leave the carpet gray.
I'm looking for ideas for the seats and A-pillar plastic. I've used paint in the past, and while it looks decent, one accident and it's scratched. The stiching on the driver's side seat is coming undone, so I'll need to sew that back together. Also, while everything is apart... I might do some more with lighting since it'll be easy to wire. Any ideas? Here are some pictures... I'll try to post the progress.. ~Tom

Looking good so far.

if you arent going to do guages or paint... i guess pick a cool fabric and tack it on.?
or suede... when i get my wife a 2nd Gen Eclipse she wants me to do the interior in B/W houndstooth And blood red accents if u were to paint it, i think hammered steel textured paint is cool -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.

I've love to use a fabric, but I have no idea how to adhere it so it looks decent.

You can use spray glue, just use light coats and use thicker fabric. A cool fabric definitely would be nice especially for the pillars, arm rest and even headliner.

I had actually thought of using this on the pillars, arm rest, and leather door inserts. What do you think?

Check my garage. I did some vinyl on the doors and arm rest. The doors are easy on the gt, I just placed them over the existing panels. The arm rest sucked and its not perfect cuz its hard to get the material to curve unless you cut into pieces and stitch it together like OEM. The pillars shouldn't be too bad.

yeah black pleAther would work...
i've used elmers craft bond in past, but it dries really fast there is other spray adhesives available at Advance or Autozone in the headliner section (about 2 feet wide lol)... those adhesives might be more forgiving as elmers also dries kinda hard -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.

I've tried doing the same thing with my armrest and had the same problem. Maybe I should learn to sew... -------------------- and then I found 5 bucks!

Good call, thanks guys. I'll see what I can do about the armrests. I'll definitely do the pillars and doors with leather.
I ordered some new blue leds for the inside.. can't wait for it to be done. Just pulled my driver's side seat out and removed the carpeting. I'll be pressure-washing it this afternoon. Going to wipe down the whole interior so it smells clean and then reapply more sound-deadening. Need to tidy-up some wires. Ordered a new (used) driver's side window switch as mine had burned out. Anyone ever pulled the driver's side door lock assembly out? My key doesn't work nor does the power locks below like 80 degrees. I think the driver's side assembly is gunked up and needs to be cleaned and lubed. Last, I don't know what to do about the seats. The vinyl paint I used last time looked good until it wore off. I don't want to spend the money to reupholster, and seat covers are unsafe due to airbags... so I'll likely just paint again. -------------------- Music Teacher/Geek for life!! |

You should install tibby seats.
