Hello all-

I just bought my son his first car-a 2005 Elantra XD2 hatch w/125k.

I assume the previous owner has not replaced the timing belt, water pump, pullys or acc. belts.

Can someone recommend a reputable shop or mechanic in the San Fernando valley/Santa Clarita valley areas?

Someone I can trust to do the job right and for a reasonable price?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Club! If you've got the space and tools, doing this yourself is not nearly as daunting as it may seem. Bobzilla (who just posted above me) did a great DIY write-up of the procedure here. I used that to help me through my DIY replacement 2 summers ago.

If it isn't inside the realm of possibilities, hopefully we've got someone local to you that can recommend a good shop. Hope you stick around and enjoy the Club.

This was kinda near me. I grew up in San Diego, which is a couple of hours away. I'm in the 'burbs outside of Sacramento now. I did stay in Woodland Hills for a while, but I never needed service for my car in the area. I'm afraid I can't give any useful advice. When I'm looking for a shop, I read reviews online and make sure they're AAA certified. Beyond that, a lot of it goes to luck.
