Thanks for the advice. Preventative maintenance is the key, think I will have them do the maintenance.

I learned of a little Honda secret recently on the CRV as well. Turns out the rear dif for the AWD vehicles NEEDS the fluid changed every 20,000 miles if you want it to last any length of time.

My friends went by the owners manual that said 60,000 interval for fluid change and needed to shell out over a $1000 on a repair at 42,000 miles. I did a quick search of the internet after they told me and I found lots of people having that problem. I told them to call Honda custmer assistance and they recieved a full refund from Honda America. Lets see Hyundai do that.

It's called a "coverup" Jay. There's TONS of things I'd love to go into detail, but shall remain silent unless directly asked. Toyoduh is just as good at the coverups too.

Now that's out of the way . . . back to the questions.

Hey Bob, I did an oil change a couple of weeks ago on the Integra and it started leaking from the drain bolt. I did have hard time taking it out the first time, so I took the bolt out again. It didn't come off easy again. I looked at closely and noticed a bad thread. I used a extra bolt from the Elantra and I hand tightened in and it's twice as long angry-bangheadonwall.gif

Went to the local Honda dealer and got another bolt, plus 10 crush washers (HEY MAN, why didn't you tell us they are only $.50 each!!! That's a decent price for them ohmy.gif ). Before leaving, I went to the service department and told them about it. They were the last ones to do an oil change and they overtightened the bolt and said nothing about it. The service writer checked the records and was annoyed at his mechanics. The parts guy whispered to me about them hiring some in-experienced kids and throwing in the pit to do oil changes and was happy they would get in trouble. I later told the service writer that they should have told my wife about the bolt being stripped. The damn thing is under $4!!! angry-hitselfonhead.gif

This dealer has a good reputation, but they should pay a little attention to what their idiots are doing when they work on cars mad.gif

Sarah took her car (02 Civic EX 2dr) in for an estimate so I might run some of the price through you - though probably it'll be over the deductible and the insurance will pay anyway. Certainly a front bumper cover, the rest is not so obvious. IMO the left headlight is aimed lower than it should be. Also the hood-fender gap gets slightly wider from back to front. But the hood opens and closes fine. We'll see.

Hey Bob,

I bought the wife an 07 Accord EX-L V6 w/navi back in August. Is there anything I should know that HMA hides or doesn't state up front. So far, we love this car and plan on keeping it for a long time.

On a another note, my daughter is starting college this fall and I am in the market for another car for me. (I am giving her my GT). I really like the look of the new Accord coupes. I have a chance to actually get what I want this time, and it just screams sexy IMHO. Any info on those would also be helpful. I would be looking at the V-6 either manual or automatic.

Honduh automatics are junk. Hate to say it, but I have a sneaky suspicion your current V6 auto will go through it's first trans underwarranty and the second out of warranty. As long as they keep churning out the same bad design they will continue to have problems. Same with the terrible EGR system they use. Clogs about 60k miles, requiring a port clean.

Squeaks, rattles and elctronic gremlins are plaguing them right now. Personally, I would wait at least another year for them to iron out some issues they refuse to admit occur.

As you know, I'm the thick headed 23 year old that wants to make everything go faster.

Would it be totally crazy to put a cold air intake in it?

Also, how bad is it to put regular unleaded in it rather than the premium it says.

2 things: First, the intake on the MDX is already a CAI... and it's resonator isn't half as restrictive as the one in the Elantra. They are actually made to flow well. The bad news: Your transmission is already taxed to it's limit. Any exxtra steress will have it locked up on the interstate somewhere with 4 flatspotted tires. True story....

THe premium vs unleaded.... the car was designed to run on premium (91octane and higher). If you switch back to regular (87) you will notice A.) the car is missing about 20hp and B.) your EGR ports will clog faster. This is already an issue (EGR port cleans are a common issue) and reverting to reg unleaded tends to hasten the frequency.

The BEST thing you could do for that MDX (besides trading up to an 04-06) would be to install the factory ATF and P/S coolers that came with the trailer package. Drain and fill the trans every 15k to keep fresh fluid in it and keep your foot out of it.

Are these auto transmissions as picky about their fluid at the Hyundais?
