So I like the stock wheels on the GT, but came across these which I found rather interesting. Quite frankly, I think a gloss black would look good too in lieu of the CF print. I would be curious to see how they hold up though in regards to heat from the wheels and rock chips. I wish they had a full side profile before and after pic so I could get a better sense as to how these look in relation to the car.

Interesting. They'd hold up pretty good me thinks since they're designed for exterior usage. It says it's ABS, so these are pre cut and snap on with adhesive?

Adhesives generally soften or come loose at higher temps, add in the speed at which the wheel is turning AND the forward wind/drag at speed. Say you're driving 80 mph... the upper rear portion is traveling close to twice that wind speed as the wheel spins.
I'm guessing they'll fly off within a year of use. -------------------- x

I think the adhesive that would be used would have to be epoxy or similar...
A Xerox tech showed me a new process recently that involved something akin to powder coating and it made his Ducati rim look CF wrapped, but was tough as nails and conformed perfectly to the surface of the rim. I'm not sure how one would do a rim like the one shown though. -------------------- ![]() To Helena Handbasket! |

If you are ok with a matte black or white, I would use plasti-dip. If you are doing sections, it is gonna take some practice to taping off the area and painting just the right amount and carefully peeling away the tape.
But plasti-dip holds up very well. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Hmm, I think this is one I'll have to contemplate for a little while. One thing I didn't think about, until I just saw them for sale, is it appears the chrome trim on my wheels is a similar "stick-on" trim piece. I will have to look at that closer when I get out to my car.

Hey-I can feel some screws or maybe rivets holding the chrome trim pieces to the wheel. They're on the back side of the wheel. I was thinking of removing a wheel to see for sure.

I'm betting it's like the Forte rims which have a black insert piece that snaps into place... -------------------- ![]() To Helena Handbasket! |

I've seen these advertised for the sedan -- they pre-cut vinyl film. See http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-2012-Elantra-...34f&vxp=mtr
They come in multiple pieces. Look in the first picture on your link -- you'll see the seam where the pieces come together. My opinion -- they would stand up well to heat, rock chips, centrifugal force, etc. They won't spin off, peel, etc. If plasti-dip would work, so would these. Plasti-dip would look good, but that would be very difficult to mask off correctly on those wheels. -------------------- A proud member of the club.
