Hi all.. as always, sorry I'm not around much. Busy busy busy... against my better judgement, I decided to give my car a complete makeover. I'm starting with the interior. Almost everything is stripped out. I'm going to clean everything and add a little more sound deadening. I might paint the headliner to match the rear deck which I painted black.. but I think I'll leave the carpet gray.

I'm looking for ideas for the seats and A-pillar plastic. I've used paint in the past, and while it looks decent, one accident and it's scratched. The stiching on the driver's side seat is coming undone, so I'll need to sew that back together.

Also, while everything is apart... I might do some more with lighting since it'll be easy to wire. Any ideas? Here are some pictures... I'll try to post the progress..

if you arent going to do guages or paint... i guess pick a cool fabric and tack it on.?

or suede...

when i get my wife a 2nd Gen Eclipse she wants me to do the interior in B/W houndstooth And blood red accents

if u were to paint it, i think hammered steel textured paint is cool

I've love to use a fabric, but I have no idea how to adhere it so it looks decent.

Stickerbomb it tongue.gif

You can use spray glue, just use light coats and use thicker fabric. A cool fabric definitely would be nice especially for the pillars, arm rest and even headliner.

I had actually thought of using http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Champion-Faux-Vinyl-upholstery-Faux-Leather-fabric-by-the-yard-54-Wide-/111059213496?pt=US_Fabric&hash=item19dba51cb8 on the pillars, arm rest, and leather door inserts. What do you think?

Check my garage. I did some vinyl on the doors and arm rest. The doors are easy on the gt, I just placed them over the existing panels. The arm rest sucked and its not perfect cuz its hard to get the material to curve unless you cut into pieces and stitch it together like OEM. The pillars shouldn't be too bad.

yeah black pleAther would work...

i've used elmers craft bond in past, but it dries really fast

there is other spray adhesives available at Advance or Autozone
in the headliner section (about 2 feet wide lol)...

those adhesives might be more forgiving as elmers also dries kinda hard

I've tried doing the same thing with my armrest and had the same problem. Maybe I should learn to sew...

Good call, thanks guys. I'll see what I can do about the armrests. I'll definitely do the pillars and doors with leather.

I ordered some new blue leds for the inside.. can't wait for it to be done. Just pulled my driver's side seat out and removed the carpeting. I'll be pressure-washing it this afternoon. Going to wipe down the whole interior so it smells clean and then reapply more sound-deadening. Need to tidy-up some wires. Ordered a new (used) driver's side window switch as mine had burned out.

Anyone ever pulled the driver's side door lock assembly out? My key doesn't work nor does the power locks below like 80 degrees. I think the driver's side assembly is gunked up and needs to be cleaned and lubed.

Last, I don't know what to do about the seats. The vinyl paint I used last time looked good until it wore off. I don't want to spend the money to reupholster, and seat covers are unsafe due to airbags... so I'll likely just paint again.

You should install tibby seats.

That's an idea.. maybe I'll paint for now which will hold up until I can find a set.

hyundai changed oem supplier mid year 2003 and used whatever was left then started using new ones

i had this problem trying to track down 2003 tib seats that worked with my 2092 elantra

Yeah, I bet that's pretty tough.

Today I pressure-washed the headliner. I'm going to keep it factory color.. it would take too much paint for me to change it and the smell would drive me nuts. Right now it smells like it came out of the showroom smile.gif Also stitched the driver's side seat leather back together. Getting that apart was a PITA. Febreezed the cushion.. waiting for it to dry before I put it back together.

Also did some wiring; got new floor lighting. Tomorrow I'll put in sound deadener on the roof, clean up some wires under where the headliner goes, put in new lights, etc. I'm also planning on getting the carpet back in tomorrow. Haven't driven the car in a week, and I'm anxious to do so!

what kinda floor lights u opt for? Leds? im thinking of something to use my third toggle switch for...
i need some inspiration..smile.gif

Sorry I didn't get back to you yet Ed- yeah, LEDs. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B5OB7O8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Very bright and cheap!

I'm not giving up on the vinyl/fabric paint yet for the seats... and here is why. I've always been good about cleaning the interior clean... except the seats. They've dried up because I've neglected them. I've been cleaning the seats and am ashamed of how much dirt I've gotten out of them. Using leather conditioners and cleaners, I believe I can keep the seats supple enough for the paint to bond to them.

Pics soon to follow!

wow thats inexpensive... guess i'll be making a purchase after payday !

Here's a pic of the brightness.. IMO, plenty of light! You can't kill these lights either unless you cut them.
