I'm not familiar with the wiring on the newer Elantras, but my '04 has lights from the factory that turn on when the door is open. Yours doesn't have that?
The only wiring that I know of that you would have to tap into would be the dome light. If it's set to "door", then it would turn on and off when the door was open. You'd have to trace the wiring behind the dash, tap into it, and then run a wire through the grommet where your power locks/windows wiring are. That wire would only be hot when the door was open. I'm not sure if you can tap directly into the door switch or not.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge about the later Elantras can chime in!
