So, many of you noticed I'm not on much. The new job keeps me pretty busy. So what I do now is analyze oil data from analysis testing and make recommendations for maintenance. The job is good, the company is great and my new boss and workmates are awesome. But better yet, I get to run my own vehicles through the program and run my own analysis. Think Blackstone Labs, only better, bigger and more information.

So, last weekend as the Forte is approaching 60k (58500) it was time for an oil change and it's second trans fluid change.Since I have the test kits, I figured I'd run them both through.

The engine oil I use is the full synthetic Walmart Supertech 5W20 with an OEM filter. At 5k miles, the oil was fantastic. The worst result had 11ppm of iron, which is WELL below the threshold to start flagging to watch. Basically, the oil could have gone another 2500 miles and been checked again.

The trans was a bit more surprising though. I had changed it at 30k with the OEM Hyundai 75w85 fluid. The results of that were a little less comforting. While it wasn't bad, the particle count was about normal for the mileage, it showed that there is a reason why they suggested 30k intervals for the fluid. Granted, this is the fluid I ran all last summer for autocross and cross country trips etc, so my experience is likely not the same for many. But after seeing this, I would highly recommend changing your manual fluid often for long term reliability.

As soon as I get a chance, I'll get copies posted up for all to look at.

Engineoils, sure. Trans fluid? Not a chance.
