I just posted this to the main forum below this stickey but I thought I would add it here as well.
========================================================================================== ================ So I didnt want to get rid of my Diamond 5600.2 or peerless 10"subwoofer I made a custom box (17liter) which is the correct size for the sub. Then I relaized that I didnt want to eliminate my Trunk as I need room for Skiing equipment and wife wanted room for groceries. So.... I created a false floor from 2x4's ripped down to 2x2's and attached a piece of 1/4" board to the frame of 2x2's.... Then I mounted the amp to the underside as well as making a plate to mount the Distribution block since I use a batcap for reserve power. I made sure that the sides have openings for air circulation and when the carpet is laying on top of the board you can harly tell it is raised about 2 inches up. I have boom thump (600 watts to the peerless) with not a lot of loss of trunk space. what do you guys think? -------------------- 2005 GT Obsidian Black XD2

surprisingly cool. I have not had an issue yet. I will be eventually spining it and hanging it "right side up" just for safetys sake.

QUOTE (2loud2k2xd @ Mar 7 2005, 07:55 PM) wow, this is right up my alley. here it goes. pioneer premier 960mp--indash pioneer premier dvd/monitor--indash 2loud, how did you make use of 2 DINs? It's a double-DIN opening, but no audio people I've checked with thought you could use both DINs. Last night, while I had mine opened up, I saw that there's a metal bar across the back of the lower DIN slot that would prevent almost any stereo from going in there. Did you remove that bar, or did you find another way to get use of both DINs? This has probably been covered elsewhere in this forum; but I'm a n00b around here. Thanks! --------- QUOTE (CyberGecco @ Dec 11 2005, 05:15 PM) 2x rear KFC-1679/H3 "Hyundai by Kenwood" 6.5" 2-ways @ 160w peak, custom connector fittings 2x front KFC-1679/H3's, [direct dropin, no modification needed] The idea of not having to screw with the connectors is tempting. Where did you get these Hyundai-specific Kenwood speakers, and how much are they? Are they comparable in quality to more ordinary aftermarket speakers? And do the rears benefit from the sexy connectors? -------------------- 2010 copper red mica 5-speed manual Mazda 5 Sport - new 17 Dec 09

The rears unfortunately need a slight modification: inunsulated spade crimp-connectors, soldered to the wires in place of the "sexy" conenctor. Simple mod, really.
Quality is comparable, yes, as these are also available [sans the H3 designation of OEM parts] as retail versions...though, the retail ones are less. Check my other thread in this forum for the complete kenwood part number listing. -------------------- 2005 GT Hatch A/T, Silver.

Cool, I just read your other post. But where can you get the OEM speakers? I imagine crutchfield doesn't sell them; probably you'd need a Hyundai OEM supplier, right?

Heres my set up,
I Have a Alpine CDA-9847 with XM service. No speaker upgrades yet.

I really enjoy the 04 GT Kenwood unit. It has been trouble-free for me and I am happy with its performance. I'd love to replace the speakers at some point, but for now I find it more than adequate for my needs. I do find that the stock speakers put out mediocre bass at best, and they struggle to handle the lows and mids at the same time. If they can be crossed over at 80 or 100hz, they sound much clearer and sharper. Thus, the need for a subwoofer.
I have a 10" MTX Road Thunder sub in a sealed wedge-shape enclosure. An Alpine MRP-T406 2-channel amp (bridged) powers it, and I find it to add just enough low end to balance the stock system. I can bump some Snoop, blast some Zeppelin, pound some Metallica, or groove to Mingus and it handles them all nicely. It's a budget system, but it does the job just fine. I used some 1" nylon webbing, a buckle, and a pair of plastic hooks to secure the box to the floor using the LATCH child restraint anchors. The box sits closer to the seat back and to the left than in the picture. It fits in the corner well, with room for the amp to "breathe". -Roy -------------------- |
