Hello all. I just bought a Hyundai Elantra GT 6speed. Just thought I'd join this cool forum to learn more.
I have a question already, but it's not anything related to the Elantra. It has to do with auto loans and such. If this is the wrong spot or if there's a better subforum for this, I'd really appreciate some help.
I financed a new car with my brother as cosigner. There were some rebates and discount for my car and I took out a first time buyer loan. When I asked the finance person if it's ok to pay off my loan early, she says I have to wait 6 months before doing that or else I will void my rebate and will have to pay back the money which is about $2700. This sounds kind of fishy to me. I was wondering if anyone else heard of this before, or am I getting scammed here.

Ok so today is my first official day as an elantra owner. I bought the car over the last week in payments. Last night I made the last payment, drove it almost 2hrs home, and everything ran great! But this morning I ran an errand early, I got there no prob, then on the way home wich was an 20-25 min drive as I got close to home I noticed a smell, saw steam coming from under the hood and a high temp on the gauge. We'll it was like 3 more blocks to my house and not quite at "redline" yet I drove the rest of the way home. Immediately I opened the hood and saw coolant had sprayed around I. There also I heard a boiling noise over the head where it seemed to be coming from the air intake system!?? So if any of you could help me diagnose this problem I'd be a true believe in online forums, lol. Also there were some odd small specks in the fluid the are shown in the picture of the top of the radiator the we're white/yellow and sticky/squishy?! I don't think I'd ever seen y his before.

The second pic shows where I heard a "boiling" sound coming from after inspection

Hey all, Dan here from Minnesota. A good friend is in a bind - she owns a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. The clutch is toast and there is a major leak at the front crankshaft oil seal. I decided it would be a better plan just to yank the engine and tranny together and get everything squared away and reinstall assembled. she lives in a complex with an association and in reality I should not be out thee wrenching on it to begin with so I am having to be quick and stealthy.
get it prepped, setup the hoist (my own engineered contraption mounted to my class III hitch) yank it and swing it into the bed of my truck - I'll keep it there and wrench on it at my place. I have done all the top-side prep work and all that remains is the suspension/axles and motor/tranny mounts yet to be done. With Minnesota winters and the salt on our streets there is plenty of corrosion to fight underneath but I have the fasteners removed for the tie rods and ball joints, but they aint jumping out og their holes without some serious persuasion. I have them wrapped in penetrating oil soaked rags while I tackle other stuff for now. I have done many timing kits and clutches so while this is a new puzzle for me having never tinkered with a hyundai, it is all quite familiar territory.
This girl bought the car without asking anyone to look it over at all so she had no idea what she was walking into. She only paid 400 bucks for it at least but she is a single mom and needs transportation. I am doing all the labor gratis save for some meals and copious beverages. I also have to locate the best deals I can find on parts. (and convince her that she needs them)
I will use the search function to death I assure you, but if any of you have a part number list for timing belt, crank seal, cam seals, rear main seal with retainer gasket, water pump, speed sensors (one or the other is shot) and can advise me on a trustworthy OE replacement clutch kit for this vehicle I would be immensely grateful. I swear by LUK in my ford ranger, exact same parts as you'll find in a box labeled motorcraft, but that does not always translate to another manufacturer, so i thought I would run it by you folks. just want to put in parts worthy of all the work involved to install them. dont need stage 4 gazzilion diablo sicko fast speed race numba one tuner parts, just reliable aftermarket OE spec.
I am capable of all the research I just have to find time to locate it all and wrench it all and work and be a dad to my own 3 year old so any bone you can throw me would be awesome and when I have some extra scratch I'll pony up a little for the site. Thanks in advance I know this is classic newbie jargon but I'm pressed for time hardcore and I have a sneaking suspicion some of you have invented this wheel already.

Well it has been a good few years since I was last on the forums.
Since then, I have shifted continents from Australia to Europe, gotten married and have 2 step daughters and 1 of my own.
I have missed my Elantra since the day I last drove it, and have been looking for one a few times a week for the last couple of years.
Originally I was set on getting an XD2, but this week a deal came up which I couldn't refuse; so now I'm the owner of a 2001 Elantra XD CDX 2.0L Petrol 5-Speed Manual with just under 80,000 miles on the clock.
Special features compared to some US models include: Climate control, leather seats, electric sunroof, electric windows and mirrors, OEM spoiler with integrated brake light, wood effect dash, cheap and nasty aftermarket stereo with USB, AUX input and remote control.
It drives well, but second gear is pretty much useless.
I'm going to get a full service done on it soon with a change of all fluids and filters, as I have no service history from 60,000 miles.
Also, I need to refurbish the alloys and debadge it as soon as possible and get some new tyres on it. Also need to get some new bulbs for it as well as a whole host of other things, but I'm not planning on spending a lot on it as I reckon the gearbox or clutch will need doing in the next 5-10K miles.
Also, it is interesting to note there is no external antenna, so it has a really clean look to it!
Anyhow just thought I'd reintroduce myself and here is a picture of my new bargain ride which you can't beat for $800 USD
Regards,
Mark

Hello,
I'm Maxime from Montreal Canada. Brand new owner or an Elantra limited 2016.
There's not enough parts available for this brand new model on ebay or others, but like my radio installation kit, it's 2014 and up.
There's other pieces compatible? Like mudgards? Short Ram? Hood deflector?
Here's pictures
Factory radio to a single bin Pioneer. Also have my JBL GTO 7001 amp behind.
Thanks

Hello all. New to the forum and was hoping for a little assistance. I just purchased a 2015 Elantra Limited and am very pleased with it. Only problem is the lack of get up and go. My previous vehicle was an 05 Santa Fe GLS 3.5l that has some power. I am interested in some ways to squeeze a little more punch from the Elantra. Nothing big just 5-10 hp would do it. Not very familiar with any options but am not wanting anything crazy expensive or labor intensive. Thanks in advance.

Hello! I just bought a 2013 Elantra GT through CarMax. I'm currently selling my 2002 Mazda Protege5. I had wanted to stay with Mazda, it's been really, really reliable over the past 11 years that we've owned it. This Elantra was sitting next a Mazda we had transported in to look at. It won out, both in looks, features, and drive.
I've only had a couple days, but liking it so far. I did look under the car and there's a bit of rust on the frame. Nothing that's going to cause it to fall apart, but definite rust. Should I be concerned about it? I'm taking it to the local Hyundai dealer for them to give a look over as well.

I just purchased my first Hyundai last week. It was somewhat unexpected, but the deal was too good to pass up and the GT meets, or exceeds, all my requirements......chief among them, it being a hatchback.
I was quite amazed it was still available, as it only had 28 miles on the odometer. One reason might be because it has every option known to man.....and then some. By then some, I mean those insidious dealer installed options that no one wants, or asks for. However, being it's a '14, because it was the end of the month and with the '16's imminently available....I guess my timing was right.
I must say, my initial impressions are very positive. Fit and finish seems to be very good. I'm also quite amazed at the "pep" of the engine and how much fun it is to drive. If it holds up, I'm sure I'll be very happy.
Here's a few initial pics:

OK folks. I edited my profile. And I pinned myself to the map. Added our spiffy 4 door, 5 speed, 2008 Elantra GL to the garage. (My wife says it needs a wash, but I say dirt just sexes up a car.) Two mods. First, a thin but down-to-the-plastic scratch on the corner of the front bumper which says: "My car". Second, a bright and tasteful pine tree air freshener swinging from the mirror. It's a non smoking car. I don't smoke either.
So when do I get CAR OF THE MONTH??? I've been a member for over 24 hours, don't you leave me hanging here...

Wife recently picked up a 2012 Elantra GLS with a manual transmission, silver, and pretty clean in and out. We are both very impressed with the craftsmanship of the vehicle as a whole, the mileage, engine, transmission, and handling.
There are some scuffs on it; rear bumper has some paint missing, standard poorly kept paint (swirls, scratches), front seat minor tear, but for a vehicle with 81,000 miles on the odometer it's in great condition. Bought with the steel wheels, but found some new 2015 wheels with the Hankook Optimo tires on them for $500 (with TPMS fully mounted and balanced, approximately 5 miles on them). Steel of a deal!
I doubt there's going to be much performance oriented modifying, mostly visual. Plans are to get the bumper reconditioned (maybe swap to Limited rear bumper and get exhaust done), bring it to a detail shop and have the paint gone through with sealant at the end, short shifter, intake, projector headlight swap, maybe a tasteful front lip kit.
But then again, not my car. Either or, it's still great!

Just purchased my first manual transmission (and first hyundai) and was wondering if you folks have any good tips?
I have nothing to hide, stalled it 3 times just driving to the other side of town (maybe 5 miles?) my first night owning it. My stalls are mostly slow speed stuff like at a McDonald's drive through, a creep ahead after a full stop to get better vision, or just being stupid and starting the car off in 3rd. I learned a few years ago the basics on a 4 speed, poor clutch, suv. A couple things have carried over, but I was not good at shifting that vehicle either. I spent a couple hours this morning trying to improve, I seem to be getting a little better. My later shifts are getting smoother but not great. Struggling a bit to find the right gas/clutch combo.
Please don't chew me out for spending $18000 to learn a stick, and possibly ruin the transmission. It was really my Fiesta with its HORRIBLE dual clutch auto that has scared (and scarred) me away from automatics for a while. This car is 1 day off the lot and I feel like I don't own it yet, mainly because I can barely drive it. I swear I am not a bigger danger then your avg mom on the phone, I know how to stop, and I give it extra gas to make sure I don't stall in traffic. I want to get less jerks aka smoother shifting. Embarrassing
I will probably be thinking of more questions, but the basic one for now is: What are some good tips I should try?
Oh, and what causes the "clutch to burn"? That way I can dodge that on this poor new car.
thanks ahead of time

hello, i am having some shifting issues with my 09 elantra. itdoes not do it all the time but it is getting worse. sometimes it hesitates when it goes to shift other times it does what i call a double shift where it is like it shifts but then imediately shifts again. i have taken it to a couple of shops but they can not find what is wrong. i have been told by one shope that it could be a sensor problem of some sort or that the car might even need an update. i am just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems and what you might have done to fix it. thanks

well here she is. my new car. a nicely kept 03 GT hatch. auto. fogs. cruise. moonroof. never modded. 2 owners. 193k.
first mod... lol... were tires. 195/55R-15 Sumitomo HTR A/S P01. i had bought them for my Tiburon, 2 weeks before i found the Elantra on criagslist. they are slightly downsized from the spec size for the XD, but it effects the speedo minimally.
i had the stock Tiburon wheels dipped a satin black as well. a month on the road and they are holding up nicely. (plastidip)
new centercaps.
had some electrical issues, so i replaced the alternator and all is well.
needs:
a wash and wax... even a good claybar wouldnt hurt. clear is still nice.
exterior door handles, or paint.
antenna plastic boot.
headlights polishing or new units.
fog light polishing or projectors from kspec.com
rear hatch supports.
rear calipers may be sticking.
e-brake definitely sticking... drove to work the first day with right rear smoking.... unstuck it with a couple love taps of a hammer. probably the cable.
has a strange wobble during easy acceleration to 45. around 20 a slight almost unnoticeable wobble can be felt. maybe axle boots? or motor mounts?
worst thing is rust under the left passenger door on the skirt. about a 3-5 inch hole in the skirt under the door. other side is fine though... was this an issue with this body??? shame.. cause the body is nice and straight other than that one rust spot.
interior leather has typical wear, and unfortunately the dash leather split right in the middle, but everything is clean. never smoked in.
interior door handle set, maybe the chrome set.
and thats it. pretty decent find on the old criagslist. i might keep this car for a few years in fact. lots of life left in her i think.
and this is my Tib. 15 years old and still would turn over and drive like a top... until it leaked out all its fluids. its time for a rest in prep for an overhaul.

I guess this is the right place for my first post here. I've had many cars before and I've subscribed to more than a few forums, but this is my first Hyundai and so now I'm here. I had some issues registering...idk why...but note that I'm in, it seems like a good place to be. My car, an '02 gls, was actually given to me by a co-worker. And surprisingly, there's actually very little wrong with it. It need a wheel alignment, 2 tires, and a couple of bulbs here and there. Some intermittent (and presumably sloppy) aftermarket radio/speaker wiring needs to be sorted out, but that happens to be my specialty. Some clear coat is peeling (of course), and that's about it. The only other thing that does worry me a little (more so, the first time it happened) is that it's hard to start every time I refuel it. Also, judging from the occasional ringing-like squeak I'm hearing, I may also need rear brake shoes (non-ABS drums). I'm the third owner of this 164K mile car. Thanks for reading, abd thanks for having a great forum.

Thanks for having this forum available!
I purchased a 2015 Elantra SE about 6 weeks ago. I love the car, except for the rear defroster.
I live in the frozen northeast and since I got the car we've had multiple snowstorms and many below-zero days. The entire heating system seems a bit anemic, but the rear defroster only makes a token effort at working.
This is from this morning after driving on the highway for a half hour with the defroster on and the heat turned to high:

The other day during a snowstorm, I turned the rear defroster on because the window was fogging without it...but then it started melting the snow, which began dripping and then freezing into clumps of ice. By the time I got home (again, a half hour drive), it was a total mess.
Is this a frequent problem with the Hyundai line? It's not safe so I'm hoping there's an easy answer.
I've contacted the dealer but haven't heard back from them yet.
Thanks for your help!

Back in November of this year I bought my first car to call my own, I'd driven a good handful of cars; pontiac wave, pontiac sunfire, Honda Accord, Ford Explorer, Ford Focus and a few others. I'll admit that at first I was keen on the feel I had while driving a Pontiac over the rest, that was before I got into the 2010 Elantra GLS Sport. While my standard driving ability was pretty poor at first (I didn't have too many chances to learn) I knew that the car had a great feel compared to the other cars I had previously drove, to make the decision easier the car had a great price tag and pretty decent mileage (32,000 miles)
Now that I've got this beautiful car I want to put some personal touches into it, bare with me as I'm not as knowledgable as I'd like to be.
Some things I want to do with it are easier than others but I'm also curious if anyone could suggest some projects that will take up a few levels from stock.
Some projects I plan to do when the snow starts to melt include the following.
-some interior painting
-adding/replacing some interior lighting
-replacing the shift knob and boot
-upgrading the headlights to some nice HID's
Those are just some things I'd like to do, but I'm always looking for something new I could throw onto that list, if anyone has an ideas or anything they've done that would look good, I'd like to hear about it!
Thanks for reading this little blurb.

Hello. I bought my first elantra/ new car. i have a 2015 elantra SE with popular equipment package.I have a few questions..
1. I heard I should replace the oil after the first 1k miles to remove the metal shavings from breaking in the new engine..
2.i always used to change the oil every 3k miles should I change every 3k or 7.5k
3. I drive 500 miles a week 90 % is highway. Is that bad to drive that much per week.
4. I want to make the car last 200k plus miles any tips?

Hi everyone. I am glad to join this community. unfortunately my first post is not a good one. i own a 2014 base elantra and I recently got a flat tire and bent my rim. I was able to get my car towed to a tire shop. the guy banged on the rim and put a new (used) tire on. I am wondering if anyone knows of an online shop or a shop in the phoenix area where I can buy oem rims. i appreciate the feedback. thanks.

After car shopping last weekend we found our car. Elantra wasn't a car we thought about buying while we were out shopping. We just noticed it while test driving the other cars we were interested in. We were surprised how affordable it was considering it only had 27k miles on it. (there was only one other car we found 2012+ that was cheaper. It didn't have cruise control. ffs)
Now we have a 2011 Kia Forte Koup and a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS.
Elantra Pics:
Koup pics:
I have a question about the Hyundai. On our Kia we put what is called the "Broken K" emblem on it. I was wondering if the broken K was a Kia only thing or a South Korean car thing? I want to put it on my Hyundai but if it doesn't belong on it I'm not sure that I will.

Hello all you fine people out there in Internet land. I've very recently come into the ownership of a 2012 Elantra sedan (GL perhaps?) after suffering at the hands of a disabled Pontiac G5 for 3 months. At first I was looking for a winter beater to carry the torch for my car as it was highly modified and I didn't want to risk damage, but upon stumbling onto this golden deal on the Hyundai I had to jump all over it. It's a burgundy manual car with 168,500 kilometers and a few neat options. The price was $7140 tax in from a used car dealer.
Thing is, I never once considered a car like this and haven't a clue knowing what it's capable of. So, naturally, I signed up here looking to learn more. I'm rather pressed for time at the moment so I can't stay and write too much or post some pictures, so I'll have to come back and pick up where I left off. All I wanted to say was hello to you all and hopefully we can get along. Cheers for now.

Hello,
My name is Dustin, live in Conroe Texas. I have a couple of toys I'm working on. 1997 Honda Civic 4door (D16y8), 1991 Nissan 240sx (KA24DE), 2004 Yamaha R6 (Race Bike), then I have my 2007 Saturn Outlook XR (Family Car), 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS (Her Car). She wants me to do some stuff to it to make it sporty... it's a Auto... oh well, the other toys ar about to get turboed. I'm looking to lower it (Springs or Coilovers) maybe a little more power under the hood with that 2.0l, but no to the exhaust or a very quite performance exhaust, rims and tires, and a full lip kit. Front, Rear, and Side...
I'll post pictures or the cars later...
