ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ Elantra General Discussions _ Damage and accidents to your Elantra

I guess it's happened to all of us...from parking lot dings to hail damage to (hopefully not) major accidents. Describe some of the ways your Elantra has gotten "banged up"

My only mishap so far was a serious bumper scrape that took off both paint & primer.... What about your Elantra?

Posted by: kmr327 Jan 27 2005, 08:45 PM

Well I'm back but after a pretty devastating crash that has left me without my Elantra.... as most of you probably know I moved from Orlando, Florida back north to New Hampshire.... Well i was used to driving in the snow and so on... i learned in it for crying out loud!!!! well in this situation it wasn't that my driving skill was bad but more so the fact that the BF Goodrich Traction T/A's that a spent near $300 for to be bought mounted balanced and an alleged allignment from a local tire company up there is what actually cost me my car, and near injury of me and one of my best friends!! i was driving to my friends house to go watch movies since the kids i knew that were still in High School had a snow day... by the way i am only 18 turning 19 in march... but anyways back to the story... i had been driving during this storm already for about 3-4 hours.. so i was very comfortable that day with driving and knew the limits of the roads and my car... but as i was driving to this persons house going around the last turn and only about 40-50 FT. away from their street was a very light and gradual turn and downhill... i was only doing about 15 mph at the top of the hill i began to very lightly turn the wheel to begin the turn in the road and lightly tapped my brakes... the car kept going straight... i left off the brake so the front tires would spin and help give traction in order to make the turn safely.... no luck.. still going straight... when i knew it was too late and no option other then hitting to tree not by choice of course... i slammed the brakes cut the wheel in hopse that the snow would build up in front of the tires and slow me down and the wheels would turn a bit with traction from the build up... and of course my car went smash right into a tree about 2 FT. diameter.... by the time i hit the tree the car was probably doing in the area of 20-25 mph..... luckily me and my friend both walked away perfectly fine... i had a light bruise from the seat belt.... light back pain for the next two days along with light neck pain... but overall we were okay....

Pics of the aftermath:

I got nailed by a bycycle in September. I was going through an uncontroled intersection when out of nowhere, she hit my driverside door. I was only going about 20mph.

Not sure what happened to her, she was taken away in an ambulance, she tried to get up but other bicyclist told her to stay down.

Anyway, I just got the car back. Replaced both door skins and pulled a small dent just behind the rear door.

My GT got totaled on 12/22/04, but I replaced with a used 02 GT. I'm glad all of us are around to talk about our accidents...

Posted by: elantragt Jan 27 2005, 10:16 PM

Kmr...that looks sad man.... glad you're ok. Did I mention I hate snow? wink.gif

Posted by: Neurowave Jan 28 2005, 02:12 AM

I uh "slipped on some ice" taking an onramp and went into one of them side ditches. The really cool thing is how quick my elantra turned around and climed back up that monster... with blown front tires and fooked wheels. Yay curb!

Amazingly, the wheels and tires were the only thing damaged. The suspension and everything was just fine.

Posted by: southpawboston Jan 29 2005, 08:02 AM

i haven't had any accidents with my GT, but living in boston, i've suffered from a few rear bumper scrapes which have gone down through the primer to the plastic. and then there was the two truck driver who scraped my front bumper and mangled the license plate. but that's about it in terms of damage. i'm more worried about the effects of all this slush and salt plastered on my car, for which there is no option to remove any time soon. sad.gif

Posted by: Jesse Jan 30 2005, 10:40 PM

I was rear ended a few months ago, it wasn't that bad and it's been fixed since. I have a nice scratch on the passenger side near the bottom that was caused by someone giving me bad directions into a very tight area. sad.gif In his defence, it was very dark outside.

And as of today my windshield needs to be replaced.

Here's the outside visible damage to my car, which was totaled due to frame damage...

Posted by: stauf Jan 31 2005, 04:10 PM

silet, is that the only visible damage? if so, i'm wondering how on earth the framing got tweaked..

I'll try to take a picture of the trunk. It's kinda bent signs-groan.gif It'll make more sense when you see it.

I got in an accident on September 11th 2004. I was sideswiped doing 45 mph when a car driving towards me, in the opposite direction, drifted into my lane. I swerved onto the shoulder but he still made contact.

Everything was fixed within a month and a half and I got my $500 deductable back just in time for Christmas, which was nice.

It was a '99 Olds Alero. The irony is that my girlfriend just bought the exact same car, but the one that hit me was 4 cylinder and hers is a V6.

Anyhow, the only bad part is that my new rim, to replaced the chipped one from the accident, sucks. It has a lot of imperfections and has a very rough surface. I plan on getting 16"s with my tax return though so I can deal with it.

Aside from that I got my first flat tire today. I guess 185/55 wasn't such a good idea. I don't really know for a fact that's why it's flat but that is the most obvious explanation. Oh well.

One year ago yesterday, I had a little accident. I was sitting in a parking lot, waiting to go into work, and just as I opened my door some lady pulls into the spot next to me and crunched my door in a bit. Oddly enough, she was driving a Sonata.

I always have my digital camera on me, so I took pictures of the damage and sent them to my insurance agent. The hit really only affected the outer door panel, so a new one of those, some paint, and I was all set. Her damage consisted of nothing more than a broken chrome piece around the fog light and a slight scratch.

My damage (Road salt is gross):

Her damage:

Nothing major, which is good.

I've got a couple door dings, one which really makes me mad. I also backed up into something that only a picture can described, and messed up my rear bumper, not horribly though. I will get some pics as soon as I get some batteries for my camera.

Reading these helped me feel a little better about my stupidity today. I parked my 5-speed in a fairly level parking lot today, and forget to set the parking brake and didn't leave the car in gear. When I got back to the car, it had rolled about 40 feet and hit a curb at the end of the parking lot. Didn't appear to affect the alignment, but man am I glad it didn't hit a car or roll into the street!

My friend and I were working on his car. We screwed up and jacked up the car with no chocks ohmy.gif The car rolled into the garage and hit the siding in between the garage doors. He was lucky he had no damage to the car. The siding was a different story angry-hitselfonhead.gif

Had an accident in Aug of 03 where my front and back passenger side door panels where damaged; side mouldings and the panels were replaced... Other than that, nothing too major yet (knock on wood) blink.gif

Posted by: Bigs Feb 18 2005, 11:28 AM

Oh geez, where do I start. Only one year in and...

1.Major accident, t-boned a Precidia, totalled it and my GT had $2700.00can damage.

2. Sunroof leaking. While repairing it, they leaned on the rook with probably their elbows and dented my roof. They denied the whole thing. angry-hitselfonhead.gif

3. I'm driving at 11:30pm, I'm behind an SUV and the SUV is behing an idiot. The idot decides to put his signal to turn right at a set of lights. The idiot decides to stop at the green light to drop off another idiot. The SUV jams the breaks and avoids him meanwhile my foot slips off my break pedal and I end up off roading the sidewalk to avoid the SUV and the idiot. I ended up with $300.00can of damage.

4. In Montreal Trudeau Airport, I come back from my trip to Guayabitos Mexico, get to my car in the lot and a nice big dent to the rear quarter panel. That is a fixer for srping.

5. Chips on my windsheild and paint.

I think that's it!

Silet, is the frame damage primarily in the back?

I found an interesting tidbit about our frames when I installed my trailer hitch.. There is no rail going from the center section to the rear section as far as I can see and no apparent crossmembers in the back, leading me to believe the frame would rack easily. On my car, I saw no rear crossmember or structural steel members between the midsection ahead of the gas tank and right behind the rear wheels. Typically, there should be a crossmember connecting the two side rails at the back as well as in the middle. The front already has the crossmember.

http://index.php?act=findpost&pid=6724

Well yes and no. It's from the center to the back. What happened is the floor between the struts and bumper was pulled down at the bumper. This caused the rear body to be pulled down the rest of the car from the sunroof/hatch. Now picture the area between the rear struts. The roof was lowered and the section between the strut tops moved apart. The hatch cover can't stay on and the rear door frames are bent sad.gif If I had a rear strut bar, it would have held the body together, well somewhat kept it together. I just would have felt it more and it have probably still been totaled.

After your description of the lack of frame support, I'm not surprised at the amount of damage I have.

Posted by: stauf Mar 4 2005, 03:11 PM

Hmm.. Are there places to put crossmembers in the rear even? Haven't had mine on a rack yet.

Posted by: cclngthr Mar 4 2005, 07:04 PM

On the hatch, the structural support is minimal at best, because no support is there at the top of the strut tower, plus little support at that point on the bottom end as well, since there is no structural steel members crossing the area from the gas tank to the part just behind the rear wheel. That is what buckled. A rear strut bar probably would have prevented the strut towers from spreading and made the car more easily repaired. On the sedan, as my car is, the top of the rear strut towers does have a lot of support because there is the top of the trunk area that is welded in there; which prevents it from spreading. However, the bottom end would be problematic because there isn't the structural frame member to support it.

There is a way to add a crossmember right behind the rear wheel, which would support the back end better, but having a connecting frame rail between the back and mid sections might take some finesse to fabricate, but not impossible; which I might try to do.

Posted by: silet Mar 4 2005, 08:16 PM

I think a 16 ga c cannel with cut outs for the floor contours would work if you can go in a direct line from the bumper mounts to the lower suspension crossmember. I haven't looked under the car to see if the tank, swaybar, muffler and spare tire well interfere. And yes, the hatch does have a weak rear end!!!

Posted by: cclngthr Mar 4 2005, 10:05 PM

I would go with bent square tubing, which is used for the frame, and molded to the contours of the wheel area, against the undercarriage; rather than C channel. I would tie together the center section and rear sections by stitch welding everything together and TIGing the floor area to the square tubing.

I went with heavy gauge C channel on my truck because I wanted some flex, but stiff enough to hold up to the torque of the 572 I have for the engine. Square tubing IMO would break under the stress from the engine torque (which is over 1,000 hp)

Posted by: silet Mar 4 2005, 10:30 PM

The trunk floor needs more support, because just having flat sheetmetal has totaled sedans also. Then again you don't know if it's really better or worse in a similar rear end collision. My truck, 1990 Mazda B2600 has a boxed frame. The original owner was rear ended and the frame held up, but the bed had to be replaced.

Actually, if you look at the trunk floor, there is the recessed "box" where the spare tire and jack are located, which gives some support, and the center tow hook is welded to that. If there is the center tow hook there, that does have some structure in order to support any stress by using the tow hook. However, what I see is the individual side framerails can easily be misaligned with each other (not parallel to each other) by not having a crossmember to prevent one side from being pushed forward. The problem I do see is this "box" is in the way; too close to the bumper, to put a cross member where it should be at the end of the frame rail. The hitch does tie both rails together and also connecting the center tow hook to it which prevents 1 side rail from being pushed forward.

What I would like to see is some pics of the undercarriage to see what happened, and try to explain to members not only what happened, but to show possible mods that can be done to keep the car intact in an accident (probably best left to the pro).

Passenger Front
Driver Front

Probably the worst damage done to the car :-\

A few others to note though :

1. While putting on the spare tire. In the snow, rain and mud. After having DESTROYED my front drivers rim on a curb...still don't know how, I put a rather large dent above the tire from leaning into the car not thinking. Just a little more aggrivation to add to that day.

2. Still in school, and parking lots are hell with 300 teenagers so ive gotten a few dents and dings from there.

Probably the extent of the damage for me...nothing bad yet smile.gif

well today, actually only about 2 hours ago, my girlfriend was backing out of the driveway and scraped the back bumper and rear drivers side panel on the fence. I was very surprised that I was able to stay some-what calm, used no swear words and overall did very good.

I'm guessing it will probably be like $1000 to fix it, I highly doubt it can be buffed out. It looks like it's all the way down to the metal. And I'm definitly not going to claim it on my car insurance because I started this policy just 5 months ago, so the rates will sky rocket.

Man this really sucks, I don't even have 10,000 miles on it yet!!!!!!!!!!! angry-hitselfonhead.gif

Natef53, what the hell happened to the interior?

do you own a RD Elantra?

Posted by: bugs27979 Mar 26 2005, 04:52 PM

While I was driving to work, on Wednesday 23 March 2005, it was raining really hard. I was going about 10MPH under the speed limit. A car cut into my lane on I-95. I tapped the brakes and did a 450 degree spin. I slid sideways while looking at the guard rail for about 200 feet. Then it happened. My front tires went down the incline of the median and directly into the guard rail. SMASH!!!

24 March I got the estimate done. $3500.00 so far. There might be some hidden damage by the radiator support. I drop it off on the 31st to get fixed. They said it should only take 10 days to fix.

Check it out.

No and No. I hit the guardrail with the right front sorta going backwards. It actually pulled the bumper support away from the car. See pic below.

This is a pic showing how the bumper was pulled away from the mounting bracket.

Posted by: cclngthr Mar 27 2005, 12:01 AM

Tmat:

That will need a lot of touch-up or a total repaint of the part (bumper?). It looks like you also got hit below the black molding as well. That will have to be sanded and filled in with fiberglass, which that is hard to patch and not crack on you. Most shops elect to replace the part even with that small of it damaged.

Bugs:

It looks as you might have bent the front subframe a little, which I would check to be sure it is squared up. I also suspect the front suspension could be tweaked from the looks of the rim.

On Gelicious's car, that is a fairly easy fix. Popping out the dent and smoothing out the bumper cover and painting the quarter and bumper cover is all that it needs (if the light isn't cracked.

That's just dirt on the rim. The car still drives straight. I'm taking it to a collision center located at a dealership (newer equiptment and nicest facility)

Well, it all began last year in November. I was in the school parking lot and school just let out. Shortly after, a chevy truck with a six-inch lift plowed right into me. My car slid about three feet almost pushing me into the car beside me. Boy was I furious. In the close-up picture of my tire, you can see a dark area. That was were my car was touching the pavement as it slid that three feet. If you look closely in the picture of the top of my hood, you can see where the hood is overlaping the right fender. Also, in the picture of my grill, you can see where the front fender is detached from my hood. I needed my whole front end replaced: Front and both side fenders, hood, one headlamp, and one fog lamp. I usually get out of school every day around 2:30. That particular day, the schedule was changed and I got out when school was released at 3:30. If there had been no schedule change that day, I wouldn't have had my accident. That was my first "fender bender". I hope I don't have another.

Very Bad news sad.gif
I have finally had my first accident and unfortunately it happened to my elantra which i just finsihed swapping to 5-spd as some of you know. Thankfully though, it was a single car crash. I was driving over some railroad tracks about 25-30 mph when i felt my tire grab something on the road (a large rock or rut). After the tracks, the road sloped down and became a gravel road. My car fishtailled out and i tried to countersteer, but on gravel it is very hard. I hit a tree head on. I need a radiator, bumper core, one headlight (my clear corners were not damaged at all, i need a radiator core support, and a hood. Also, the nose frame of the car which the crossmember for the transmission is connected to is bent. the right side of the front is fine, but the left side is crushed (the headlight bucket is destroyed and all that part of the frame. I am very dissapointed that this happened to me. I could of driven to my friends house from there even with the radiator damanged, cause there was still fluid in the system and i wouldnt have to worry about my car overheating since my friend lived a couple blocks away. But, some assh*ole neighbor called 911 and i got cited for Failure to Control. I did no property damage, just damnage to my car. I was fine. I wore my seatbelt. I refused treatment when the ambulance showed up. I believe the car is fixable. I need the nose part off of another car (the frame) and i have a friend that can weld. I took some pics, i can show u guys after i get them developed,. Im driving a corsica to drive for now but it is such a shame. I really miss my car.

Well I hate to have to post to this part of the forum. But my car has officially been broken into. I live in Atlanta (Buckhead area), and a warning to the burglars who broke into my car. If I catch you, you will pay. The funny thing is they smashed my driver's side window and attempted to steal my JVC deck. Well nothing was stolen just broken glass all over my car and my now broken JVC stereo.

A personal note to the burglars: If you are going to smash my window and cost me hundreds of dollars atleast steal something. My CDs were still in the car, my jacket was still in my car and atleast take my deck. angry-cursing2.gif

2) when im at a car club meet and people lean against my car. ahhh that drives me insane....

Kind of an odd first post for me, but I came across this place looking for info on Elantras and accidents... since I just got into one the other week. So, I thought I'd share my photos smile.gif

http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img26873ey.jpg

Of course, the accident was not my fault wink.gif , but I ended up hitting the other car as it proceeded (unsafely I might add) through an intersection. I slammed on my brakes, but it was too late and I rammed into the left side of the other car. In fact, you can see an outline of the other car's rim on the front of my bumper.

http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img26962yt.jpg

The damage isn't that bad to my car, but it's just enough that it's annoying and needs to be repaired... lots of paint scratches, little dents, and an alignment that is now a little off. And now I've got to find a good body shop. Anyone know of any in the bay area? smile.gif

Very good news guys...
I have been busy working since i wrecked my elantra and I have purchased a 99 elantra with 78,000 miles/automatic off of eBay for $810. The car is rebuilt which is why i got it so cheap. I am getting the car inspected but it will pass for sure, so I should have the car road worthy in 1-2 weeks. After I get this car, i will be using my other car for parts and swap it over to 5-spd just like i did with my other elantra. I am so glad that I finally found another elantra and for real cheap. I have to admit I really missed driving that car. I will be providing more details after I get my car.

Sadfully, it took me only 5 month to crash it again... some says a vga car is cursed but i dont believe that!

the crash that happened this spring was due to a city bus that stop in front of me to offload commuters. i did'nt want to get stuck behind it and lose my green light so i did a quick look up at my dead angle and decided to pass it like you're supposed to but i was'nt sure 100% that i did'nt have a car following me so at the last second, i made my move but i tryed to stay as close as possible to the bus in case somebody was behind me in the other lane. being new with my elantra and upgrading from a tercel (witch is a lot smaller car) i miscalculated of about an inch and sideswipped my car on the bus. The scratch start in the middle of the front fender and end in the quarter pannel... The whole F"/$%ing car is scratched angry-hitselfonhead.gif angry-hitselfonhead.gif !!! i bought a new fender and a used door from a 2003 gls 2 new side molding . The rear door and quarter panel will be fix by the body shop.

total cost? part 700$ canadian
body labor$ 800$to 1000$ canadian depending on how much i can do myself to lower the cost.

Let me say that i learned something that day and now, i wait behind buses!!!

i'll try to sent you some pic before i have it repaired (probably next week or the other one after...)

Is it just me, or does it seem that the Elantra as a whole is accident prone and when it is in an accident, it is $$$$!

I have driven for 24 years and never been in involved in one, I sure hate to think that now I drive one of these it is more likely to occur and the damage to the car is extensive. Wirse yet, I have a 14yo daughter and when she starts driving I was planning on giving her this car. Maybe now I shouldn't.

On the good side, like some have said, I didn't hear many of you state that anyone was seriously hurt in one of these.

It stands to reason that with a lower price tag than most, they somewhere somehow had to make that money back. It sounds as if the frame isn't as structually sound as on other makes. I really hope that isn't the case. scared-yikes1.gif

I've had my elantra for about a year and a half now. Or is it 2 and a half? Wow. I don't even know.
I got rear ended by a van at a stop light once. I'm still wearing the damage right now. Some scrapes and rips on the bumper, as well as it being a little unlevel on one side. I'm not too worried about it, and almost don't care. I got a check from the insurance company to fix it, but just pocketed the cash. ^_^;;;
About a month ago, I found a scrape on my driver's side door. about a foot long, half of it is under the mirror, and some of the black plastic on the mirror is scraped off. A small dent in the door, too. I still can't figure out how someone managed to pull that one off... and with what? I need to get it fixed soon, since some parts are scraped to bare metal... I'm worried about the cost. T_T

How about this one: I was backing into my garage, thinking my roommate (who had just brought the trash can back into the garage) had seen me coming and had left the garage door open. Unfortunately, he had not seen me, and had hit the button to close the garage door as he went back into the house. The garage door didn't start coming down until I was already underneath it, so I didn't see it, but I sure heard the crunch when it came down onto the roof of my Elantra GT hatch! The door went back up automatically after it hit the car, but it was too late to prevent the rear window washer nozzle from being pulled off.

I can get a replacement washer nozzle and plug the end of the hose into it and just snap it into the opening, but I guess I'll have to remove the headliner to get at it, since I can't think of any way to fish the end of the hose out of that little hole on the top rear of the roof where the nozzle popped off. Does anyone have any advice on removing the headliner or any alternate suggestions? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

ok, so the xd got its 1st ding, well its more like a big dent. while removing the front jacks when doing the suspension this weekend, we moved the jacks out from under the car. the rear was still on a jack, so we lowered it too. well, one of the jacks was under the rocker panel a little and when we lowered the rear jack, it lowered the car on the jack causing the rocker panel to cave in a bit. OMG, this is the first thing thats happened to it. you cant really tell, but, its still there.
im going to call my dent guy and see if he can fix it (he's just gonna laugh at it tho, its pretty bad). ill take a pic tomorrow and post it.

This is PROOF that the GT is one helluva machine:

I was at my aunt's place and park in a spot on the driveway that's far enough back to give her cars the room to back out of her garage, a spot that I always park in and where everyone can see my car.

Well, my cousin decides to go somewhere and, as usual starts to back out of his garage space, well, he was either going too fast or he was stupidly blind, he drove his Honda Civic right into my GT's front bumper!

But here's the kicker... he's got WAY MORE damage than me! Look:

I got nothing but scratches and there's no damage to the innards or in behind the bumper! He has nearly $1000 in damages! LOL! biggrin.gif

Hyundai triumphs.

I guess the molding does help a bit biggrin.gif

Posted by: Goldenguy Oct 19 2005, 03:03 PM

I just have some minor damage so far.

-Some paint chips at the driver's side front fender. Going to need primer and paint.
-A few small scratches. Seems like dirt-types and shouldn't be hard to fix.

But yeah, it annoys the piss out of me when people mess around with the car. One guy in particular who drives an Accent likes to mess around. One night, he was messing with the antenna (tried to steal it, but ended up stealing one from a different car), then he laid not only on my trunk, but on my hood, and the other night, he was fogging my window with his breath and writing. I opened the door onto his face for that one and then cleaned the window a short while later.

I told him if he does any more crap that I would get the police involved.

Well this is my first time posting here so first i'd like to say hi! My 04 Gt Sedan has pretty much gone through hell and back in the year and a half that i've owned it...literally! It has just under 14,000 miles and although it has always been the cleanest car on the block, it probably has the most dings, dents, scratches, and scuffs out of any car on the street. It all started in June of 05 when i foolishly let my friend drive my car. She called to let me know she was pulling out of CVS and on her way to drop the car off when all of a sudden i heard in the phone a huge bang followed by the panic screams of my friend. I rushed down to her and found the front end of my car floating in mid-air while the rear was smashed against the parking lot! Luckily, no one called the cops (oh did I mention she only had her permit!) so I proceeded to reverse the car off the curb and check the damage...YIKES! Two days later the car was at my uncles body shop and he came out with a three page damage summary totaling $3,500!!!! blink.gif Bent subframe, bent oil pan, bent tie-rod, demolished ball-joint, shock, catalytic converter, front bumper, fog light, radiator support, lower radiator hose, serpentine belt...and a few other things. Well today the radiator support, front bumper, fog light, and subframe have yet to be fixed. My friend dished out every penny she had and thats what it covered (i wasn't about to pay for the rest!). So i just have to deal with the tires wearing unevenly (tires rotated every 2,500 miles now). Then at halloween, the car got egged severely and the paint was removed off the roof, and rear spoiler along with a fair share of dings and dents on the hood and roof (oh yeah keyed as well)....haha i think i deserved it though. Then last month there was a major ice and snow storm here in the northeast and i was taking my friend home from school when I lost control of the car going around a bend at roughly 20 mph (stock tires suck!) slamming into a snowbank and ending up in a ditch. That was an additional $650 on top of the damages already on the front end. Finally, my last accident and hopefully the last one, was a hit and run at the mall to yet again the front end cracking my headlight, side marker, and pushing in and scuffing the bumper. So yeah as you can see this car has been through hell and back and you now know that i have the worst luck in the world! Happy motoring!

I think you need to get some airbags on the OUTSIDE of the car...

Posted by: Doohickie Jan 10 2006, 07:20 PM

I put a ding just over my rear quarter window on the driver's side when it was less than a month old. angry-hitselfonhead.gif My bicycle hangs from the ceiling of my garage, and when I opened my hatch it bumped the bike, knocked the front wheel off the hook and it swung down and hit the car. About 1-1/2" gash in the paint and a slight dent. I tried to spoon out the dent, but can't get do it without cutting structure inside under the trim. I got a quote of $600 from a body shop... so I bought a bottle of touch-up paint from the dealer for $6 and filled in the scratch.... and try to ignore the dent.

.... but I just can't! thumbsdown.gif

Posted by: Ishtar Jan 13 2006, 07:44 PM

Well, just shelled out $200 and change to buy a drivers' side mirror I pooched in a parking garage back in November. By the time they have painted it, add another $100. And of course, the day I bought the farking new mirror, I got into an argument with my ex-gf in the car and grazed a black '90 Grand Prix in my apartment lot. I scraped a good deal of paint off the rear drivers side corner of the bumper. I don't think I punched the foam, and I didn't hit the actual bodywork of the car. Hoping it's just a touch up :S Just my luck!

I was rear ended by some ass hole getting off the highway. He fucked my trunk up and my bumper. It was all his fualt and his insurance is paying. This was before xmas. I went to pick the car up and the trunk did not line up so i told them they had to fix it. The guy i was dealing with said ok. He had to get his manager. His manager comes out and trys to tell me that the trunk does not line up becouse it was rear ended before and the frame was bent from before. The car had never been hit before. He was trying to get off with out having it fixed right. I dont play that shit i am only 18 but i am not stupid. I am from ny and moved to florida to go to collage. I made them take the car back and try again. I am going to pick the car up on monday and if it is not fixed and he trys to tell me that it is becouse the frame was bent from before i will get a lawer and they will be buying me a new car. If the frame is bent it is becouse of when it was rear ended by that asshole. I hope it is ok becouse i have alot of part for it waiting.

Posted by: ricerrx7 Jan 15 2006, 06:01 PM

What made the guy an asshole? Was he mean, or is it just because he hit you?

Posted by: timebomb Jan 15 2006, 07:18 PM

No he was an asshole he tryed to make it sound like it was my foult when the cop came. He was also talking shit to me before the cop got there. I wanted to knock him out but my girlfriend would not let me. I also will get kicked out of school if they find i was fighting because it make the school look bad. I am paying alot of money to go there.

Bwahah, Saturns, yeah I know how that is.
Actually, its how I got my new Elantra smile.gif
I was driving my grandfathers saturn which was given to me by my dad, and last Jan, was in the car with my then girlfriend now fiance, and we were going around an exit onto 495 in Mass...at the end of the ramp, and I was doing roughly 20mph, we hit some major black ice, and the car spun, did a 180, and I swear it hit nothing more than the snow bank and not even the stupid guard rail, and the damn front end completely totaled. Crumple zones my ASS!

The WORST accident I have ever been in is the one i'm still trying to get my attorney to settle.

It happend on, of all days, April 1st, 2004, at about 11:05 am or so (yes I still remember the time pretty much!) I was driving a chevy cavalier at the time, and had just gone from my college class for the day to walmart in hooksett, NH, and then through BK's next door for lunch...well, went down the street and was at a red light behind a few other people, and was stopped. I was about oh, a car lenght away at least from the peeps in front of me. Roads were clear, not wet, etc, and I was going to goto my job. Anyhow, I'm sitting in the car, minding my own biz, when i nthe rear view mirror I see this big ass truck coming at me. Now in the back of my mind I hear my own voice going "oh shit he's not going to stop". Wouldn't you know it, the next thing that happens is the guy slams into my car, and I should note I was seated close to the airbag and such, and my neck was turned to watch the mirror, so I watched this guy hit me.
He hits me, the airbags go off, and everything goes into slow motion. Just as I see my airbag going off, and just about to hit me with my neck already turned, my seat back just gives out and takes me down with it. I was also hit so hard I skidded, with my foot still on break, into the people in front of me.

Now it wasnt until after the accident when the fire trucks came, that I was freaked out. I wasnt thinking about it really till a rescue worker said, you do realize that your life was saved by the seat going down right? Thats after I explained how I was sitting. Basically, had the seat back not drop, my neck would have been snapped. Talk about freaky! My entire trunk, and the passenger side frame was bent completely, and totaled. On top of it all, my poor whopper jr with cheese and fries never got eatten! So I was out a car, out a lunch, then it starts raining..oh the humanity! I still have neck problems and issues from that damn accident! Grr!
Hopefully it wont happen to my GLS!

dang, sorry to hear bout that. If it will cost you over a 1000 for a one time fix then you'd probably be better off filing an insurance claim imo.
I feel your pain bc my car was hit twice on the driver side door/fender within 3 months by two hit and runs and it cost me 550 (out of my college funds) each time to bang out the dents and repaint the fender/door.

Then I go to the other side of the car and:

Bloody nail driven into my tire. 2 hour wait for CAA (I wanted to see if it was just uninflated before I swapped out the tire), then $23 at the dealer for a patch.

About a month ago, on my way to work, about 3:30 in the A.M., I managed to hit a large piece of recap in the road. I never even saw it. I got to work which was only about 2 miles away and looked for any damage. The first thing I noticed was the driver's side marker light was popped out and just hanging there. I just popped it back in, thinking if that was all the damage then i was very lucky. Well I walked to the front of the car and noticed the fog lights that I just had installed we destroyed. Not only were the lenses shattered but they had broken from the mounts. Ok, bad but not the end of the world. Then I got my spotlight out to examine for any further damage... Then I noticed the "REAL" damage. I had busted the front bumper cap in several places. Well 3 caps later and a month later and $560 dollars poorer, the new cap will be installed Friday. Also the guy at the body is going to put the new fog lights in for me... NOTE: Also a valuable lesson learned... The guy at the body shop ordered the first cap and it came from the dealership busted, He said like someone stepped on it or hit it with something. The next cap came in, the guy prepped it and painted it. I came in later that week to have it put on. I saw the cap on a stand outside in the sun and thought "WOW", he did a really good job, then upon further examination, I realized it was the wrong cap. Hyundai makes 2 different caps for the car. The dealership sent the wrong one twice. Mine has the set ins for the trim pieces, the 2 they sent were smooth. So after very much aggravation it will finally be fixed on Friday

We had a close one tonight,I was in my truck and wife was following me.We were headed to my sons to set up for a garage sale tommorro I had placed some cheap plasic shelves in a garbage bag and taped it up and had a bungie cord over it. well about half way over it started getting air and slipped the cords anyway out it goesright in front of the Wife. She just hit it,I looked in the mirror and just saw splinters go every where,I thing the tire even ran over some.It was busy on the interstate,so we just kept going.Wife didn;t painic and swerve thank goodness.Checked the car later couldn't find a scratch, and the main thing is my wife is okay .Bad thing just after ward a stupid trucker in a semitrctor no trailer was weving in and out and came in right next to me ,and first thought he was coming on into my laneI has some rooom and went over a couple of feet till I saw he stawed in the center lane.he kept going fast and going lane to lane though traffic way to recklessly.Jerry

I had a close one tonight as well.

I was on my way home from trying to return some boards I didn't use for a project (they were alosed already though) and was on a 2-lane highway getting ready to pass a minivan when someone pulled out in front of them and they swerved right in front of me and hit the brakes.

I was wondering if I was going to have to cut over into the grass median (and if the 8' boards were going to hit the windshield) but things cleared up just in time.

If I still had the Michelins on I'd have been toast.... but got new tires 28hrs before this thank goodness.

The thing I hate are idiots with ladders not tied down.

Last year some gal dies as a result of hitting a ladder on her m/c, not long after that I, and some others narrowly avoided some jackasses' ladder on the 52E.

I see them on a semi-regular basis, all busted up off on the shoulder like today...

I told a guy once at a gas station, thanks while he was securing his ladder

Posted by: Cobra Apr 1 2006, 07:21 AM

Yes I'm very carfull with them myself and knew I should have place these I n the carand obiously putting them in the bag wasn't a good ideajust glad no accidents were caused.I was going down the interstate one day in another truck years ago and one of the mowing gutys trailer ramp came down first his trah can with leaves came out and thenthe mower came out spinning right in front of me.Watching nascar paid off I just let off gas and waited to see where it went before swerving and it just went in ditch. My son has had 2x12 and all kinds of stuff come off in front of him nothing serious .Jerry

Back in the damage column again.

I was dropping my friend off at work when an F-150 Superduty Offroad 4x4 (2006) decided to pull around the corner. He didn't have enough room and ended up taking a good chunk of my front driver's side bumpers paint with him (and pushed in a quarter-sized piece) -- along with destroying the trim piece and swirling my driver's side headlamp opaque.

Sed or someone smart... What's the part numbers on a front bumper, foglight clip (the one that holds the bulb in), front lense of a headlight and the drivers side front trim piece?

Pictures tommorrow when it is light out.

As far as i know the headlight is one piece. Look it up on ebay i got a brand new (er slightly used but great condition) one for 50 bucks. It is now in the shop getting repaired from this http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a328/ryesherm/?action=view¤t=elantradamage.jpg
The headlights is counting as 318 dollars (if had new) of my 500 deductible tongue.gif As to the rest of the parts it is hard to say. New bumper i beleive is running for 215.

I've only owned mine for 8 months. My hubby scratched the windshield while scraping off ice this winter. Just repaired a ding in the windshield also from I guess a fly by rock. Poor windshield.

Posted by: Dave666Thomas Apr 14 2006, 10:23 PM

Just had my fender smashed in while it was parked over night. My driver door has a dent and some waves in the sheet metal from a parking lot (Im guessing a shopping cart but who knows?). Right above the passenger door on the drivers side theres two dents from a rock (another overnight incident). numerous other dings and scratches. My Hyundai gets no love on the street. Bumpers are all scratched Oh yeah I also have a chip in the windshield. My car and most of the other cars in my neighborhood get abused while on the street, I cant wait to leave this area.

Im waiting till I get my house with a garage to fix all the damage to my car. Till then it has to stay as it is, except for the fender its too ugly to leave it as is, so I bought a new fender for $85. I might just put it on with only the primer, and wait till I have a garage to paint it.

Mine really sucks I guess.

I received some hail damage back in March. Last week Tuesday I called my insurance agent and filed a claim with my $500 deductible. The claims adjuster was to come out Thursday monring to look at it.

Thursday morning comes and he calls and says he is sick. No problem.

Thursday night comes and wham, another hail storm, much, much worse than the first.

Claims guy comes out Friday, no way to tell which dents came from which storm obviously. He says he is going to try and get it all under one claim. He says he appreciates my honesty for not saying that all of the hail damage came from the first storm.

Well, today he calls me and says that we do have to do two claims now. So not only am I out $1000, I am out $1000 for being honest.

Moral of the story: if you file a claim and get more damage between filing the claim and having the adjuster look at it, LIE!!

I don't think I am going to be able to afford to get this fixed now, which saddens me. My little $200 or whatever it will be check will just remind me how greedy auto insurance companies are.

I think I will be getting a new one. Am Fam has no love.

I'll post pics later. It really did a number on the roof, fender, and hood.

That is the rocker panel. It is welded into the body. Is it dented?

Aaron-

If it's scratched and metal is showing through, check out http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6164&view=findpost&p=96032.

Otherwise, get some Scratch-X, ball up one towel, wrap it in another, apply some Scratch-X to the area and rub the livin' sh!t out of the area (pretend it's the previous owner's face or something). The heat actually helps knock off the edges of the clearcoat to minimize the visibility of the scratches.

Good luck with your baby.

Well seeing that were all talking about accidents with our Elantra's. I was standing outside smoking (mind you on the top floor) and on Saturdays I keep my vehicle on the road so grandma can go to church (this was before she quit driving) (RIP Grandma) Anyways back to the story. So I am watching this lady back out of her driveway not paying attention and she backed right into me and started to drive off. Want to see how fast I can fly down 2 sets of stairs? So little did I know she hit my Elantra in the left front with her trailer hitch. $700 worth of damaged. Stupid me money hungry never fixed it now I have this indentation on the bumper. Lucky for a bra though it covers it up nicely. Also I have found that no matter how far you park from the front of a store (wal-mart to be exact) your going to get dents. I call these wal-mart dents. So there are my accidents. Oh and one more (lol no im not a accident freak) driving this past winter coming around a bend (dam Michellin tires) and there was probally a couple of inches of snow. I could not steer, I was turning to the right and the car just wanted to go to the left. Smacked a curb, bent the rim, never popped a tire, ruined the control arm and the bushings. Now I have a clicking noise coming from the rear everytime I press the brakes. (dont know if this is related). Well have a great day America and I am glad we are all here to talk about this as someone said earlier.

I was driving my daughter to North Carolina yesterday and was passing through Alexandria, Virginia when an 18 wheeler in the middle lane threw up a rock the size of a ping pong ball. The rock smashed into the hood and then into the windshield. I guess I am lucky in a way, if it had hit just the windshield it would have shattered. As is it managed to put 2 dents with paint loss in a half dollar sized spot on the hood and put a 2 inch crack onto the outside of the windshield. Now I have to get an estimate to fix the paint damage ($500 deductible) so that I can fix it out of pocket. Pisses me off that with just 6000 miles I already have several nasty chips and now this sizeable dent in the hood.

I had my black '06 GT for three weeks when I noticed two door dings on the passenger side. I wanted to kill somebody. What made it even better was that I got another one two days later. I hate having to look at my car and see those. Does anybody have any idea of how much it would cost to get those cleaned up?

Posted by: cclngthr Jun 20 2006, 11:07 PM

Depends on how deep they are. Some paintless dent places are good at removing dings.

Posted by: Goldenguy Jun 21 2006, 12:45 AM

Some jackass in Wal Mart parking lot a few weeks back scuffed the left side of the rear bumper. A few buffable scuffs, but worse off is a fairly large chip out of the bumper.

Posted by: Pyromaniak Jun 21 2006, 01:15 AM

my car just got rear end scrapped...any hoo does anyone know how much a rear bumper cost...

oh and awhile back i rear ended a silverado

Posted by: scud Jun 22 2006, 03:09 PM

Well I get to join this group again. I just had a girl rear-end me at a stop light right after I got done going to the dentist. What a day it's been.

Now I have to ask for your help, there's not a ton of visible damage but I think there might be some more damage underneath the bumper and I'm curious as to how you guys think I should proceed. File an insurance claim, or try to do it outside of insurance? Here's the pictures I just took on getting home.

take the bumper off and do a full visual... and get a second opinion.

no sense filing an insurance claim for $200 worth of damage.. and paying a $100 deductible...

Posted by: scud Jun 22 2006, 03:12 PM

Yea that's what I'm thinking, I have to take the car into the dealer for the 45k mile checkup next weekend so I think I'll just ask 'em there.

Posted by: silet Jun 22 2006, 03:17 PM

Scud, close the trunk and take note of the seams and gaps. Pull the spare tire up and look at the floor and tire well. Look for wrinkles and cracked paint!!! take some pictures too!!

Posted by: scott9050 Jun 22 2006, 04:41 PM

File against her insurance. You might be surprised on how much money they give you and then you can do the repair yourself and save money, assuming no unibody damage.

Posted by: cobas Jun 22 2006, 09:53 PM

I'm surprised I didn't put mine in here. It was nearly two years ago now. I was pretty much being stupid, so the causes were: idiocy, speed, worn rear tires and new front tires, curvy wet road and probably the tib rear sway bar on top of that didn't help. Did I mention the idiocy?

It was at a pretty sharp S-curve on a 2-lane interstate that was a workzone with jersey walls and no shoulder. The limit dropped from about 50 to 30, and I slowed from maybe 70 to 55 and it wasn't enough. The left-right transition was too quick, the car oversteered to the right and I overcorrected to the left. I spun left on a right-hand curve lined by jersey walls - not fun. By the time I hit the wall I was travelling sideways, but since the wall was angled it just hit the front-right corner. That broke the tire and strut, damaged the wheel, steering arm and steering rack and scuffed the bumper. The second hit was straight backwards into the wall and just scuffed the rear bumper. I ended up nicely parked right lane with a blown tire and the engine stalled and not starting. I spent a good few minutes waiting to be rear-ended as many people screeched and swerved around me. One guy in the left lane almost lost it and scraped the side of my car. That bent two struts, and scraped up the left side pretty badly. After the cops showed up to direct traffic my car started right up and I eventually drove home.

The repairs came to about $6,000, including a steering rack that started to come loose a year later. The guy that scraped my side got a ticket and his insurance paid for about half of the repairs. Makes me feel guilty but it was legally his fault and I wasn't really in a position to argue about it.

i just got my 2006 elantra and about an inch of the rooftop molding was popped up in the back, so my dad decided to try and fix it by pounding it down with his fist... he missed the molding, hit the room and dented it down.

i filed a comprehensive claim through geico for "falling object" and the estimated damage is $925, i am getting it fixed next week

Posted by: Goldenguy Sep 19 2006, 12:13 PM

Lol, falling object. I love that story.

Urrrghhh. It appears that someone in probably a truck backed into my car today. Not a lot of damage, but the trunk is dented enough and in just the right spot, with the paint peeling off, that I will require a new one.

Can't people leave their information at least? This is the second damned time this has happened in three months, and my bumper still looks like ass from it!

Posted by: popeye Dec 23 2006, 12:11 PM

WTF is up with ppl anyway? So I go out to my car and look over at my wife's and I see 2 more new dings, upon closer inspection I see not only a couple of good dings but cement splatter!

F'n Construction slobs, between that, their inability to strap stuff down properly (ladders anyone...), the gravel trucks spreading their joyful mess over the hiways to ding the crap outta my windshield and maroons in parking lots with zero respect for wtf they're doing when opening a car door (passenger door, probably idiot teenagers/kids) I'm in a real bah humbug mood right now.

Posted by: scott9050 Dec 23 2006, 01:19 PM

Our '06 looks like crap. The first thing that happened was a large rock on the highway that fell off a dump truck and skipped over the hood. That one left a nice size dent and put a very small crack in the windshield. After that an old woman ran into the rear bumper in a parking lot in Massachusetts scratching it up. Someone managed to hit it again in the rear bumper adding more scratches. After that my right front fender was backed into at work by someone. Just a few days ago a guy in a Honda Pilot backed into my wifes left passenger door smashing it up pretty badly. The car is only 8 months old and it looks like a hooptie already.

My Elantra is no more ohmy.gif

Slipped on black ice a couple weeks ago and the car was totaled, the car did protect my wife and I from serious injury.

Oh yeah, I was very happy I took the GAP insurance when I financed my car, will never finance or lease a car with out also getting GAP insurance. It saved my financial butt.

All in all, I miss my Elantra. She was reliable, got good mileage, and had lots of convenient features that my new F-250 doesn't have. But you cant compare apples to oranges. Two different vehicle designs for different uses.

I haven't been checking in here too often, I got interested in guns when I moved out of the mommy state of NY to the state of PA and spent what little spare time I have learning and BS'ing about them. Now of course I will be in search for a good F-250 forum. Although I have found a couple forums regarding my truck I have not found a forum with the same quality of folks on this board.

I thank everyone for all the help and advice I have received from this forum and its members, and wish you all the best.

Chris, I'm glad your move went well and sorry to hear about your accident! The car saved my neck too and I know what you mean. Pop in every so often to say hi smile.gif

I got a little bit of damage from learning my visual distance from the curb. The stock alloy wheels stick out away from the tire, and there are scratches in a few places on the front right wheel. Nothing major, but it's annoying as hell.

Will get a photo.

hit a row of mailboxes in reverse at a pretty good speed. punched a hole straight thru. and i just waxed it the day before!

http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x142/wawacito/

i figure i need to change the trunk light assembly. may or may not change the outside light assembly - its a scuff - i might be able to just live with that. The scratches on the side body and small scratch on the trunk i might just use touch up paint and LANGKA.

As for the bumper- I think i need to replace the whole thing.

Anybody have an idea what that might cost? now would be a good opportunity to get a set of aftermarket lights for the rear - but not too much selection just yet - im not even sure I will be able to find the stock stuff anywhere but the dealer.

I cried......got pissed....and now I can only laugh and kiss up to my husband to fix this one. ninja.gif

Happened Monday. I backed into my old BBQ grill. I moved from it's original spot because my husband had hooked up our bigger and newer one. I knew the $99 grill was there, but backing up the Elantra, I was more concentrated on the boat trailer hitch on the passenger side. I still didn't stop until the car moved no longer. I got out and saw the grill bounce back on all fours. I saw a small smudge and thought, wow, that's it. Then my husband came outside from the house and said, "Honey, what did you do?" I jiggled and said nothing, until I saw the scratch!!! wub.gif

I guess you could say that my car was involved in a minor accident. I purchased the car with a salvage title and rebuilt it and of course added some extras along the way groucho.gif I do have to say these cars are built very well and take a hit and keep on going. I had to replace the right front of the core support/front pannel. New fender, hood , front bumper, tie bar, right headlight, Coolant bottle, Wiper fluid bottle, P/S fluid reservoir, and I also had to replace the drivers air bag and controller. All in all it was a very fun project and I came out with a fantastic car with only 15K finished for only $5k even with counting my add ons! dance.gif

I have assorted door dings on both sides of my car (seems my fellow tenants don't care about others' property), plus some minor front-end damage, done at my hand:

I was at a stoplight behind a Chevy Astro minivan. The light changed, the van moved, then I moved. Then the van stopped, and I went right into the van!

My bumper has scuff marks from the van's trailer htch, and the hood is a little tweaked (it looks like it's slightly "popped"), but otherwise, my car's okay.

Well, I got in my first accident on 11 years last tues. NASTY ice storm, interstates closed, took almost 3 hours to get home. Dumb chickie trying to cut off traffic locked the brakes and slid into me. pics soon.

Hmm..let see well some idiot who parked in the parking stall directly across from me in one of my previous apt's hit the front of my car when he backed out. My paint was on his bumper. And he denied it of course. It wasn't too bad, just took some paint off. Um...one night driving back home from work down a pitch black road, i managed to run over a milk crate and it got stuck under my car for like 5 seconds. i couldnt swerve because my tires were sucky and it was raining that night..and i really didnt want to be stranded on a dark road at night because of a stupid crate. It broke the bottom portion of my bumper and it's still kinda hanging on there lol. Um and some idiot hit the back of my bumper in my other previous residence....don't know who did it..but yeah made me mad. and some dummy in the school parking loading zone hit the back of my bumper ..got out and wiped it with a cloth and said that it was just dust and there was not dent or scratch..pshh..yeah right..i asked him what was he wiping at? there clearly was a dent and that the "dust" is still there. LOL, full finger quotes and everything went with that one too.
and then just some random kicks and dings from car doors from other people. argh...people just park to damn close some times. No major accidents or anything like that and I'd like to keep it like that biggrin.gif

One week ago today Austin had a freak storm and the area of our office had hale the size of baseballs in some areas. I was parked under some trees for shade, but there were minor dings in my trunk and roof, and one ding squarely in the center of the hood. Because so many vehicles were damaged, this occurred right at rush hour, I cannot get in to see the USAA claims adjuster until Tuesday April 7. My guesstimate about 2,000 in damage, for dings you have to look to find. Since my comprehensive coverage is only $200 deductible I am going to get it fixed. Doubt if it can get into a body shop until May because of backlog. I consider myself lucky, as friend's 4runner in the same parking lot was totaled! It looked like someone took a baseball bat to the exterior, and both windshield, back window, and two side windows smashed by the hale.

The story that was most covered by the local TV stations, the path of the storm took it right over the Audi and BMW dealerships along a major highway US183N. Every station showed the BMW and Audi lots, with brand new BMW's and Audi looking like they had been battered by an angry mob!

the left side of the LF fender peeled metal away from the LH door and crushed the LF wheel the the right side of the car and the curb

Possible frame damage there. If the wheels are bent, especially on the rear suspension, the result is usually frame damage and a total. Cost to replace suspensions and straighten frames on the HD is not cheap.

Probably blew out bearings/warped the wheel and threw the rear out of alignment.

Parking spaces here in the Netherlands are very small, especially in length. Sucks!

I have an 04 elantra GT which I bought new with only 50 miles on it. I love my car, unfortunately other people have ruined it (I've gotten it fixed), but it's not pristine anymore. I had it parked at a meter and someone decided to press the wrong peddle and floor their SUV into my parked car. The car's was pushed out into the road. Luckily I only had the parking break on, it wasn't in gear so the damage could have been worse. The cost to repair that was around $6,000. Of course the SUV driver's insurance payed for the repair. I am sad that my poor car has had to endure such damage by idiots who shouldn't have a license.

Hmmm...Where to begin with this one?

The hood is dented from a Parking Lot fight where some jack ass picked up another jack ass and threw him on the hood of my car. Windshield has a nasty crack from a rock being kicked up by a truck. Rear bumper was backed into.
Front bumper, headlights, and fog lights look like crap from 80K+ miles freeway driving. Door dings from shopping carts and car doors.

Posted by: 02elantragt Mar 26 2010, 08:12 PM

Hmm I've never had any kind of accident with my egt. It actually has none on it's carfax either. There may of been a few small fender benders, but nothing too large because everything seems to be original and matching. I have two decent sized dents in my rear driver side door, They had large scratches i them, but I buffed them out. On my rear bumper cover Ther is a about 6" long gouge that goes down into the plastic. There is rock chips on my hood and front end also a couple chips in the windshield. There is some rust on my rear fenderwells thats growing that I need to fix. Also under my rear lights on the hatch. For 177k I can't say its in bad shape.

Also theres been some paint rubbed onto my front bumper cover and scratches from people running into it. I buffed them all out the best I could, but you can still see most of them. DAMN TECHERS!! It does make me sad though because I try to take such good care of my car just for it to get abused.

Might as well share on here as well. August 27 I was in a hit and run, rear-ended, then the other driver ran up the entire driver's side of my car before taking off. Appraised at over $7k in damage. I didn't even make it to 10,000kms before my car got hit =(

I can post pictures if anybody wants to see them. The damage looks pretty minor but it requires repairs to every single piece on the driver's side of my car including the gas cap, as well as the front and back bumpers.

Tried to back out of my carport and banged the right front fender on the cedar pole that holds the roof up. Couple of weeks later, rear-ended a dude in a SUV who didn't merge when I thought he should.... A day or two after that I was trying to make it back home (+60miles) to pick up The Child who was sick at school and tagged another little car from the rear. I've got a really good body shop. tongue.gif
I need to take it back to them. About 5 months after the rear-ending incidents, I got hit by a rock on the front passenger door in a construction zone. It's not rusting, but the paint is scratched and there's a dimple.

My 04 GT was totaled after the underground parking garage it was in flooded to about 3 feet. I've got one poor quality picture of it that I can't upload, and it was a pretty sad sight for a car with under 59,000 miles on it. I liked it so much I bought the 05 Elantra hatchback I found, now I need to find the maintenance schedule for the 05.

Another way is to use a site like imgur.com, drag the pic and copy the "Linked BBCode (message boards)" code and paste it in here.

Got rear ended in the spring. Old car blew a brake line. Small black mark on rear bumper cost his insurance company $2800.

Lets see... my "accident" was 2 months after I got my car... Some dingleberry backed in to the front of my Ltd in a parking lot and didn't leave his insurance info!! mad.gif His tow hitch went straight THROUGH the license plate clean, and snapped the plastic bumper. Luckily no damage to the actual frame underneath.

I chose not to get mine fixed since the damage would have been less than my deductible. So instead, I took some bondo, patched the crack/hole in the bumper, and by the time my CF vinyl went on and the license plate was replaced you couldn't even tell. Well, except for one small dent on the end of my hood that I plan on paying a body shop to bend back out when I get my tax returns in a couple months.

Wellll, last year i had my new car for less than a week before i got into an accident because of some bad luck.

I was driving home along a stretch of highway at night, and in the fog mind you. I was about half a hour from home until i hear a bang and some grinding. i pulled over to the shoulder, turn off my car and turn it back on. it sounds bad, like as if someone removed the muffler. i decided not to risk it and not finish the journey, so i called Hyundai roadside service and ask them to call for a tow truck. while i was waiting for the truck, i tried to look around to see what i managed to hit. just about 20 feet from the car was a winch for a cargo strap you see on those flatbed truck.

The next morning, i got the call from the dealership and the servicing lady said something along the lines of, "What the hell did you manage to hit?" i told them to look in the trunk, because i put the winch back there. she manages to tell me the damages total $4300, and asked if i called my insurance company, and i said not yet. i thanked her, hung up and called the insurance company. luckily i only had to pay the $1000 deductible.

i took a visit to the dealership in the rental car the insurance company provided me with, and i saw the damage to the undercarriage. i. was. heartbroken. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-JtVrw6Fxg

so it took about 2 weeks to repair, and the insurance company said i was not at fault biggrin.gif! but since i got it back, i swear the engine doesn't sound like it used to, but i could just be paranoid. but all in all, i'm happy i have it back. now i just need to find out how to get a nasty scratch off my rear bumper after i backed into a rock last week.

This wasn't really a crash but my Transmission went out on me yesterday. Spent a few hours at a junkyard today pulling parts and a tranny.

Last night the phone rang and it was my wife. She was just down the street and winged a mirror on a parked car on her way home from work. So I walked down to inspect the damage.

Well the Acura she hit definitely had a busted mirror, and the right side mirror on the GT was pushed in and on closer inspection the glass was completely shattered. Damn, so much for the neat KDM blue tint mirror with Hanji script telling you things are closer than they appear.

The owner of the Acura came out and was very cool about the whole thing. Fortunately he works for a car dealership and will have it replaced at cost which was $120 the last time he had to have it replaced. Just last week! He told her not to make a big deal or worry and they exchanged numbers. For me it'll cost nada, I still have the OEM glass ;-)

-----------------------------

Fuck. The wife just called, the total for the mirror will be a more realistic $340. Good thing she picked up some extra shifts...
