Hi all,
Here's the lowdown: I've got a 2000 Saturn L series (the bigger Saturn) I bought new and it nears 250,000 miles on the odometer, but its showing its age through wear and tear(heater broken, light bulbs burned out, etc.)
Its been really reliable to my family and has cost little to maintain, as I only run my steeds on synthetic oil.
The timing chain snapped several years ago, but thank God it happened in the parking lot at work, so I shut the engine down immediately, as I knew of this debacle by being an avid reader of www.saturnfans.com and while the timing chain snapped, it didn't destroy the engine whatsoever, such as the pistons, valves, etc. Had I been driving it, the engine would have been toast!
But the repairs are piling up, so its time to sadly bid her adieu/
I really like the 2016 Elantra, as it's affordable and comes with a great warranty.
My questions are as follows:
1. Is Hyundai good about honoring the warranty?
2. How reliable is your Elantra?
3. Are they high-mileage cars and what are the highest mileage ones, such as how many miles on the odometer?
4. Is this comparable to my Saturn L, which until now has been reliable and satisfying?
5. I live in the salt belt in the Midwest. How are the Elantras in terms of rusting?
.......Either convince me or otherwise that this transition to the Elantra is a wise decision and will leave me happy as a lark, as I've been owning the Saturn L (no wonder GM killed Saturn, as they lasted so long and Greedy Motors couldn't sell you another of its vehicles, as Satty's lasted so long!)
Lastly, how reliable has your Elantra been for you?
I welcome any and all serious comments, as I need a new ride that will last my family for the next 10+ years or more.
Thanks much, friends, for your input!

The upcoming, recently revealed, 2017 Elantra is definitely more conservative than the outgoing model inside and out. It also has engines with less horsepower. For enthusiasts, it's a bit of a bummer. But there may be hope. It seems Hyundai may be releasing a sport version of the Elantra. Likely a top of the line option in both the sedan and later the GT hatchback. While there's been no leaked information regarding the drivetrain, I have an educated guess what it will be.
I'm guessing they'll use the engine from the 2016 Tucson. That's a 1.6 turbo producing 175hp and 195 lb/ft of torque. Most likely mated to a 7 speed DCT and possibly a 6 speed manual.
A 7 second 0-60 Elantra getting nearly 40mpg on the highway would be a good thing!

I have a 2013 Elantra coupe. Back in the spring I was waiting to make a left turn. There was a car hauler in front of me. For whatever reason the driver decided to back up. He backed into my car causing damage to the hood and headlight. When I got the car back from the body shop everything looked great. However since I got the car back the remote start does not work and when you lock the car now the horn no longer beeps to let you know it is locked. I'm looking for ideas on how to restore these functions.

I recently bought my new Black Diamond 2015 Elantra SE, after the silver one that I had planned buying was sold. I've noticed that my car doesn't have the matte finish trim applique that the other colors do in the lot at work (mine is the only MD/UD black one here). I looked at another on a dealer webpage near here, and it didn't look to have that trim, either. It doesn't stand out much, as it's the right color already, but the difference in texture compared to the plastic triangle that fills out the window shape does stand out a bit. I can see them cutting that out on black cars, maybe, but I wanted to make sure. Is it normal for the black ones to only have paint on the window frames?

Sometimes you exercise empirical knowledge in making decisions. Sometimes doing so, the choices you make are the right ones and sometimes not, because empirical data isn't always factually substantiated.
Case in point is a story I've heard: Great grandma makes a roast. She always cuts the ends off, puts it in a roasting pan, cooks it, then everyone eats a delicious meal. Grandma does the same. Mother does the same, then the child, through experience, also does the same.
As I said, I really wanted a Sonata. I researched it for almost three years, having lost a vehicle to Hurricane Sandy back in 2012. I was dead set on the Sonata, never wavering or giving an inch.
Fast forward to 2015, three years later. My wife and I are finally ready to make our Sonata purchase. We picked everything out, trim, options, etc. Only one problem, it is TEN inches too long to fit in my garage. My heart is broken. I then start searching for a replacement. Looking at Nissan, Honda, Toyota. Completely crushed I resign to the fact I'll never have my Sonata, then a stroke of genius hits me - get an Elantra!!!!! It looks almost identical, has all the same bells and whistles, and, FITS IN MY GARAGE!!! 2012 Elantra Limited, Sky Blue Metallic paint - SOLD!!
Moral of the story: Ask your great grandmother why she cut the ends off the roast and apply it to your Hyundai purchase decisions.
Great Grandma's answer: "Silly child...I cut the ends off the roast because it wouldn't fit in the pan."
Genius!!!!

Been wondering this since I purchased my car a few weeks back.
Inside the manual it says that the eco button will 'monitor throttle response' and 'improve valve timing'. And I believe it definitely does as I can feel the difference in the throttle for sure.
If I want to overtake someone on the highway for instance and eco is on, the car hesitates a second before applying the power.
My question is, what, if any, effect does this have on fuel economy? The L/100km are already good on this car, I can't imagine that sacrificing throttle response makes the any more efficient than it already is.

A warning if you're buying the pre-assembled rear reflector LEDs (the ones where you get the OEM reflector with the LEDs already installed) or if you're buying salvage/OEM replacements for your rear reflectors.
Working with Lou on something, we discovered that with our 2011 Elantras, there are differences in the rear reflectors and probably the area of the bumper into which they fit. Not sure what the pattern is to the difference, only that they are different on our cars.
Lou purchased his in February 2011 whereas I bought mine in June 2011. Both were produced at the Ulsan plant in Korea.
As you can see from the picture below, both our reflectors have the curved tip at the fat end, but his (bottom) is curved at the skinny end whereas mine (top) is perfectly straight. The screw post on his is also longer, making it very difficult to get the plastic clip at the fat end into the slot in the bumper. This results in a very poor fit. I cut off 1/4" of the screw post and it is still a very poor fit, sticking out excessively on the bottom and the fat end does not seat properly in the opening.
Given the construction of the transparent part, and how Lou opened his reflector (with a hot knife from the back) I am sure this difference is not due to his modification. Also, the bumper must be slightly different as well. See poor fit below (picture taken from underneath to show how the reflector sticks out from the bumper):
Just an FYI for the future.

Spun out in the snow Saturday night . Car stopped when it hit the snowbank and now it's at the garage getting fixed . $4683.33 cost to repair and I claimed it through my insurance company . The good news is that the H will finally be gone so no more H symbols !! I'm also not putting the front body kit piece back on bc in two weeks of driving it'd be scraped up anyways and I hate hearing that sound . New front and rear bumper covers and other stuff . I think the driver's side is being repainted to make sure it looks right . Now I just need to get that 3M invisible bra stuff put on before I get the car back since all of the other stuff is getting done .

Hi,
I'm having a terrible time finding the correct trailer wiring for my 2014 Eleantra sedan. We have a small aluminum trailer for pulling kayaks, weighs 200lbs + kayaks and we can't seem to find the correct wiring harness that will still allow the tail lights to function. The Curt C56126 doesn't work - our shop has tried two of them both resulting in the tail lights not working on the car after installation.
Please does anyone have an idea? We are desperate to get this working. Thank you!

So up here in canada we have had a colder than usual winter. One thing that I have been pretty frustrated over is the fact that my windows frost up from the inside CONSTANTLY. Again this is with my 2013 Elantra... I never had this issue with my 2009 GLS... So I am wondering if others are having the same issue?
The frost becomes so bad that it takes almost 40 minutes to clear the rear window with the defroster on and the heat on max up front. The re circulation button is not enabled and the AC is running (I already know of those tips). I have also on occasion driven with my windows partially open to help clear out the moist air...but that is only a temporary measure.
Now granted I do tend to track snow into the car so it does collect in the winter floor mats, but I have also needed to dump out the water occassionally.
I was under the impression that with the AC on, and the heat on high, the moisture would be removed from the car so that this would not happen, but such is not the case.
Thoughts?

My 2013 Elantra Limited appears to lock all doors when shifting from Park to any other mode. And to unlock all doors when shifting into Park from any other mode. (Or possibly to do this locking and unlocking when passing through Reverse--which is essentially the same.
My 1995 Town and Country, 2008 Elantra, and 2010 VW Eos automatically lock all doors at a vehicle speed from 12mph to 16 mph. None of them automatically unlocks doors.
I have yet to find any mention of this topic in the 2013 Elantra's owner's manual.
Have I stated correctly the way the Elantra is supposed to function, or am I way off base on this?

Hello everyone,
This question is for the MD owners out there who may or may not have tried to adjust their washer nozzles.. I have attempted at poking around with the hidden nozzel in the plastic covering of the windshield but I was unable to adjust the angle and before I attempt at removing the covering to physically get to the nozzels I thought that I would check here.
I have gone through the owners manual and searched at online disccusions but I havent seen this discussed as of yet

My wife just bought a used 2013 Elantra coupe with 22,000 miles. I know she will get the rest of the 5/60 factory warranty. My question is, is it possible to get Hyundai to honor the 10/100k warranty on the car. I know it used to be if you sold the car to a family member they would honor the 100k. My wife bought the car thru a Chevrolet dealer so that option is out. This is her third Elantra starting with a 2000 then her current 2003 both she bought new.. Has any one tried to get Hyundai to extend the warranty. She is quite happy to get the rest of the 5/60 which will run until April 2018, but it would be great to get the extra coverage.

Hey everyone,
I love my Elantra, as I am sure everyone here loves theirs , but I have one rather annoying issue going on. It seems the trunk latch button on my keyless entry device is opening my trunk accidentally when it gets pressed in my pocket. I know the button has a time delay of something like 2 seconds, but it still manages to pop my trunk while I'm in the office (I park nearby) or at my house.
Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, do you have any ideas to fix it? I was thinking wrapping a rubber band around to make the button stiffer, but then I thought that might also make it easier to depress the button in my pocket... So, comments and/or ideas, ready, GO!

So I just read a new article where Hyundai was fined for overstating mpg for certain models, my 2013 Elantra sedan included. In the
source: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2014/11/03/kia-hyundai-mpg-epa/18410431/, Hyundai was quoted as saying they had reimbursed affected owners. I have never heard from Hyundai regarding this issue. how can I find out if my car is affected, and if I'm owed a reimbursement?

No big priority for this one. The summer OEM A/S tires are burnt out and I need to start looking for summer rubber sometime soon. I loved the BFG g-force sport comp 2s on my G5 and I'd likely go for those again, but perhaps there are better options out there. I'm a more performance oriented driver so I'd sacrifice longevity/comfort for better grip.
Also, I'd like to ditch the 16" steelies if my finances would allow. The wheels on the top spec model are ok, and should be inexpensive, but if they're too heavy I'd have to look elsewhere. I'd like something lightweight and big enough to close the wheel gap and maximize the contact patch. 18s perhaps. What would you guys suggest?

Hey Everyone, Just bought my wife a new 2014 Elantra SE. Last night she called me from the side of the road, said she ran something over on the freeway and there was plastic rubbing against the tire. I walked her through getting it drivable again, looks like whatever she hit tore a chunk out of the inside plastic wheel well cover (I'm not sure what that part is called). The good news is it looks easily replaceable. I was able to zip tie it back together, and add some duct tape to keep road grime out of there, but does anyone know what the piece is called and/or part number? I have attached a couple pics of the damage and piece. Looks like I also need some of those plastic screws as well. I'd appreciate any help!

The seats in our 2012 Elantra GLS are pretty uncomfortable during a long trip, a long trip being more then over an hour. I get lower back pain and my rear end gets a little, shall we say tired. My wife has similar complaints, both driver and passenger seats. A 4 hour (one way) ride last week was pretty terrible. A two hour trip has similar results. Size may matter; I am 6’-3” and 235 pounds (leg room is great!). I know there is no adjustable lumbar support but I didn’t realize there would be no support at all. The seats in my beat 04 bottom of the line corolla CE are much better and they are not supposed to be. I drove that car solo nonstop (except gas and pit stops) from NY to SC and got several hours before any discomfort and it never got as bad. With this car it takes less than an hour. Anyone else have this problem and is there anything that can be done about it?

Hey guys, new to the Forum. Just bought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS about 2 weeks ago after driving Hondas my entire life. Overall I am happy with the car, few things I wanted to ask about. First, the trim around the shifter is really scratched up. Im wondering if anyone has experience replacing these. In Hondas I know most trim is removable, but doing a quick search I didnt find anyone selling just the silver piece, instead the whole console. My other question is about the hole in the front bumper. From what I understand it is to tow the car, so mine is missing. Is this something that can be easily purchased in the color of my car, and where? I want to thank everyone for your input in advance, and if I can be of any help please let me know.
**UPDATE WITH PICS**
Thanks guys for your input and quick responses. Can you just "pop" the silver piece off? I'm a little wary of painting it, but maybe getting a dash kit to cover it. I'll have to keep researching.
]
And here is the hole in the from bumper if there was any questions about what I'm talking about.
Aaaannnddd, just for kicks, I'll throw in my car from a few years back. Used to love working on cars, now I don't like it very much. Too busy with work and home life, I'm just looking for a reliable, decent looking car to get me from a to b. No drops, no rims, no tow hooks hanging out of the front bumper. However, I do enjoy the passion people have for making their cars unique to them so I'm not knocking it, but been there, done that.

Hi all,
If I had to come up with another con besides the lack of spare tire on the 2011 Elantra Limited it would be the lack of tilt adjustment on the head rest.
It seems that it is tilted to far forward and can't come up with a comfortable position to rest my head and shoulders combination.
I feel like bending the rods a few degree backwards to accomplish that.
I know that they are designed to prevent whiplash but you shouldn't have to be hunched forward to drive.
Does anyone have that problem?
This adjustment is especially need on the passenger side when someone wants to recline the seat back and rest their head back simultaneously.
