ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ The Midwest _ 2011 Pig Roast!

Posted by: bhorste Mar 31 2011, 08:10 PM

Mark it on your calendars, this year's annual PIG ROAST!!!! will be Saturday, 8/20/11, in Ypsilanti MI. This is the event that Sarge was going to kick off his whirlwind U.S./E-Club tour with last year until logistics got in the way (and I understand *that* particular problem has been sorted). There will be:

Lots of hot, roast pig
Lots of cold keg beer
Music by http://www.lagerhaus5.com
Bounce house
Fun and frivolity of all sorts
Camping for those too partied-out to find their way elsewhere (the house is on ~1.25 acres, so lots of room)

Hope Sarge can make the trip this year, and maybe we'll get some other MW E-Clubbers out to partake of the swine-ly goodness.

Feel free to contact me for more details.

Ok im in.MI isn't that far from Wi, just have to tech my car to swim.

Posted by: sarge Apr 1 2011, 07:08 AM

yea, so far - count me in... I've got all the papers lined up now. Don't think I'll do the US/EC tour though this year, already used up most of my vacation time to go to Mexico earlier.

Talked about it lastnight, and Laura may be coming too.... even though she doesn't like pork. She did ask whether you need an opening band though smile.gif

There's a ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon, and from there it's I96 to US23 and you're practically there. Nothing easier. smile.gif

Hey, we'd absolutely LOVE to have more bands come out to the party... for one thing, roasting a pig is an all-morning affair (and I usually miss out on most of that... I just line up the purchase). So if there were another band to play before the pig gets cut up (a job that falls to yours truly) it'd make it that much easier on us. If she just wants to sit in, that's cool too. This is a very laid-back party.

I've made the drive from Ann Arbor (next to Ypsi) to Madison and it's actually quite pleasant as well, provided you catch Chicago at the right time. Have to say that seeing Six Flags Great America when it's closed and dark is just a little weird, though.

Okay, boys and girls, here's the update you've been waiting for:

The 2011 Pig Roast will be Saturday, August 20th at 5301 Crane Rd. in Ypsilanti, MI

Festivities should kick off around 4, although an earlier arrival time might allow for all club members to get parked together for a mini-show.

There will be:
Hot roast pig (duh)
Ice cold Labatt Blue
Trampoline
Bounce House
Live music featuring http://www.lagerhaus5.com, with possibly 1 or 2 other bands (still pending)
Opportunities for visiting musicians to sit in with any/all performances
Party site is on 1.25 acres and they allow camping, usually with a bonfire when it gets good and dark

Please bring a dish to pass. This is the 5th year we've done this, and it's always a great time. Feel free to PM me with any other questions you might have. There is also an event page on http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=203636022987968, which has another link to an online signup of what other people are bringing. Hope to see a bunch of y'all from the Midwest come rolling on in for some serious rock and roll good times!

If you've got camping gear, they're on 1.25 acres. There's usually a lot of people that stick around for a bonfire and camp out there overnight with some sort of breakfast the next morning. I think my wife's already got 2 people staying with us, and we're a half-hour drive from there.

I do have a tent you could probably borrow, and some other camping-type gear. Let me know, so I can try to remember/find a way to cram it all in the car.

Posted by: slowgls Aug 2 2011, 06:42 PM

I have a air mattress, but no tent. So yea that would be cool if i could you it.

Yeah, the tent is small enough I should be able to cram it in the car somewhere... or send it with my wife (she drives separately so she can escape with the little guy when he turns into a pumpkin). When you head out on Sunday, you could just leave the tent at the house and I'll get it the next time I swing through there.

Coool that will work.

Posted by: sarge Aug 3 2011, 12:36 PM

I should be bringing a tent along with other things. So if Ben doesn't get one I should have one to share.

Just need to get my sister to dig the stuff out at my parents (which I'll be stopping by at Friday night as the half-way mark).

What time you think you might make it into town Kyle?

Hope you're bringing your roadie gear. smile.gif We'll probably be setting stuff up between 1 and 2... I'm not even sure I'll be home from work that day before 1.

I'll probably be down there around noon - 3hr trip from my parents.

Kyle, we can chill with a beer and watch Ben move stuff biggrin.gif

Ouch... that's a long drive. I've done Ann Arbor-Madison straight through, and it's a haul. Just be careful and make sure there's plenty of coffee. Not sure when the keg'll get tapped, but you can have the first glass.

I want to leave myself plenty of time. You got to remember Im driving just under 8 hours one way.

At least you won't have to wrestle with Chicago rush hour... that gets real ugly.

Okay, folks... we're 2 weeks out today! It's going to be a monster rockin' time, so I hope you've made your plans like slowgls and sarge. It also means I have to find some time to do a little detailing before I roll on down... biggrin.gif

Yaay!!
I'm spending the night at my friends, then hitting my parents place for a wash and wax before the rest of the trip down... we'll see how many bug splatters I can get along the way.

Damn Kyle, that's gonna be a long drive. It's 5hrs for me, but I'm breaking it up... though Sunday it'll be a straight haul back up, maybe stop back at my parents to drop off the sleeping bag/tent.

Posted by: bhorste Aug 9 2011, 03:25 PM

The pig just got ordered today... you know it's serious now. smile.gif Might have to recruit one of you able-bodied guys to ride shotgun to go get the ol' keg, too... depending on when *it's* supposed to get picked up.

If you guys get into town early enough, you should head over to Ann Arbor and get you some http://www.blimpyburger.com until it's time to settle in for some serious beerge. You will not be sorry.

Posted by: Silentwolf Aug 10 2011, 12:23 PM

5hrs is nothing, I've done 600+miles in one day. Key is taking a couple of 15min catnaps every 200 miles.

Try Ann Arbor-Columbia, SC in one day, solo with no cruise control. All told it was a bit over 17 hours, but still well short of the final destination of Orlando.

Dudes, I might have to meet you there. I can't pass up the opportunity to gets me some Blimpyburger. 1 would probably work.

A note on parking there: if you're lucky, you can find parking on Division St. (right in front of the place) Likely you'll have to park in a different place, and I usually park in the lot kiddy-corner from it. You run the (small in summertime) risk of getting a parking ticket, but it's easier to deal with.
