I bought my Elantra new & after 104K miles my PPD sensor in the passenger seat went & My airbag light is on. The repair shop wants $598 to fix it (I don't think so) So I am going to replace the seat with a junkyard unit. The question I have is which years can I use?
I read the 2000-2003 are the same units & interchangeable. Stock number 889062D000
Can anyone confirm this. I'm off first thing tomorrow.
ALSO, how long should I disconnect the battery before reconnecting a new seat?

Thanx

not for nothing but you could either just pull the bulb or leave it alone. airbag is not a requirement to pass inspection in most states.

Unfortunately, in Virginia it is & I have the unfortunate luck to have it happen 3 day before I was going to get it inspected.
Another is my kid uses this car to go to school. My wife feels better with him behind airbags.

Thanx 2000J25SP.
I just called up JUST the sensor online & it fits 2001 - 2005. I'll confirm it with the dealer in the am. This would be good since there are 4 cars at the wreckers.
You are right, the 2000 sensor & seat are different.

Anyone on how long to keep battery disconnected to drain the capacitor?

You were right on the money. The 2001 - 2003 are all the same, 2004- 2005 have 4 connectors under the seat ALL different from the 2003.

I did not find a seat at the wreckers but I did fix the issue. After reading Hyundai service bulletins & complaints I saw a patter of broken wires at the sensor harness. I took the bottom skin off the seat & found the white white had completely broken off. I used a box cutter to trim the harness gel, got enough wire out to solder the pieces back. Wrapped it nicely in electrical tape & everything works again.

Thanks again for the help.
