So, Sunday after getting the Swift dyno'd and seeing those massive numbers, we took the Elantra out for an SCCA Sanctioned Road Rally. Having never done one before and not knowing what the hell we were doing, one of my co-workers/friends said he'd navigate if I provided a car. Both being noobs we went in blind. Think: Scavenger hunt on wheels, through areas of the state you'd never be caught dead in. Tons of fun!

This one soent about 90% of the actual Rally on gravel roads, winding through backwoods areas putting us through/over about a half dozen covered bridges. We put about 250 miles on the car total from noon to 7pm and had a ball. My navigator had his nice camera mount and cam corder up on the windshield, so I should have a vid soon enough to share.

All I have to say, you gotta try it. It's a ball. I'll get the vid link up as soon as he gets them uploaded.

Oh, and Porky makes a great gravel road drifter!

Did those at from 13-17 with my grandmother I eventually took over as driver at 16 in a 69 911 Porsche always ended in a good meal and an occasionaly trophy. I highly recomend them. The ones i did were about hitting all the check points and being closest to an optimal time calculated by the speed limits.

Yeah, there's 3 basic methods of Rally'ing. Time/speed, Tour which is time/speed dependant but have vague clues and leaves you wandering in the backwoods or GTA, or Game Tour Adventure which has the vague directions of the Tour but no time and you answer questions along the way. We did the GTA as we were extreme noobs and knew that there was no way in hell we were going to finish well on time/speed based anything!

That sounds like a lot of fun!

I wonder if my friend's beater Mountaineer would be any good at it. With his driving and my navigating we should be all set.
