Well, the turd started making some TERRIBLE noises the last few days. Only off load (coasting or decelerating), and sit sounded like a bad bearing/crappy brakes/something coming apart internally. I hoped and prayed for a bearing. Nope. Then I thought let it be a cheap axle. Uh-uh. Caliper? Nada.

Differential is going going gone. I tried changing the fluid Sunday afternoon. Fluid came out BLACK, gritty and full of chunks. Not a good sign. Drove it again today and the more I drove, the worse it got. Put it in the air, running and as soon as I rolled under the diff there it was. Had the wife rev the engin in gear, and it got louder. Put my hand on the diff and you can feel it.

Damn.

Anyone near here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...mMakeTrack=true that wants to pick it up for me?

What did I expect for $2k and 133k miles? Not much. At least it's saved us a butt load of cash on gas.

That sucks. It's starting to sound like a lemon-flavored-turd. How many things have gone wrong with it now? Not sure it would be worth it for someone who can't fix cars easily themselves.

Well, picking up a disposable car with 130+k isn't the smartest move . . . but it hasn't been all that bad. T-belt/w-p, frt wheel bearing and rear brakes. Bearing we knew about when we purchased the car. w/p died at a terrible time. Rear brakes we did when we first got it whn I was checklin it over. I've spent right at $210 in repairs on a $2k car. iT'S SAVING us $900/year in gas.

Yep. If gas goes up, it'll be more. The car or truck will average about 16,800 miles/year from her drive to and from work, or mine for that matter. Not counting weekends, family or trips to the store. The car has been averaging right around 35mpg, the truck 22. SO. . .

cATEGORY. . . . . truck. . . . . . turd
gallons used . . . .763.6 . . . . . . 480
gas cost ($3.20.gal) 2443.52 . . . . . .1536.00

So THAT'S $907.52 difference. If gas goes up, we save more.

$900+ savings a year, sounds like the perfect rationale to get another small car... you might even consider something like a Suzuki Swift perhaps innocent.gif

Well, until this happened. . . . whe wanted me to stop by the house that has a red GT sitting beside the house. It's been there for a year, not driven. She wanted me to see if he'd sell it for $1000. If so, bring it home. Buuuuuut. . . the turd has to go and pull this stunt.

I just noticed, that auction also has the rack&pinion still attatched.
