having a friend make them. they'll be 12in x 6in, scotchlite (reflective) vinyl green and white on aluminum.

not exactly like korean plates, but will mount on american cars and be the same size as american plates... look like the 2000-2006 license plates (same year as XD/XD2 elantras!)

each one will be hand made (custom lettering of your choice)

the more people who want them, the cheaper it'll cost to make them, but initially it's looking like $25 to $30 each w/ shipping.

UPDATE:

using a different font so it's easier to read and can fit another character... keep in mind it'll be rounded off like a real license plate.

they are: they'll be the same size as american/canadian license plates: 12 inches by 6 inches. this way any accessories (frames, covers, etc) can be used without trouble, and they will mount anywhere a normal license plate will mount.

so while they aren't EXACTLY like a real south korean license plate, they look good and will work well.

as far as I know it's the city/district#... the characters on the left are the car type (for example, private, taxi, government, contractor, diplomat, etc)

here's a site that explains a few of them:

right, but if I made them a different size then they wouldn't work with existing license plate accessories. the holes will match up, don't worry.

I thought so too but I don't know Korean so I figured they may just be stylized...

got a better idea? I can use any font so long as it works in adobe illustrator (TTF, OpenType ...etc)

Here is a real example of Korea's new license plate redesign that took place this year.
Unlike before, it actually doesn't print the city, but rather go buy numbers instead.
Hope this helps.

I would much rather have the newer "Euro Style" plates from Korea.

I'm doing plates in 12" by 6" because that's the standard USA and Canada size, so it'll work with existing cars and license plate accessories (covers, etc). doing the green plate because that's what was used for the past 50 years and when our elantras (01-06) were manufactured.

euro style plates (white with black border) can be had via ebay... I'm not sure if they'd custom-make you one with Korean writing on it though.

I have a similar thread to this going on at newtiburon explaining the details of my version of the korean plates (handmade, fully reflective, etc).
