I have noticed for a while now my 2012 Elantra make a louder than usual sound when I try to go into drive or reverse after first starting my car, and it is only when it is either raining or has rained recently. It also jerks more than usual when this happens. Haven't noticed it do this when it has been completely dry outside. Has anyone encountered that? I may mention that to the dealer since I am still under warranty. Thanks.

Hello:
I used to have a VW Jetta and via ODB and the VAG Software was possible to change a lot of features.
As an example , was possible to change if the alarm sounds a bip when was activated or deactivated.
Does exist a similar Software available to the users?

My Elantra handles TERRIBLY in the winter weather. My car slides every time I stop (even with very minimal snow on the ground) and the tires spin every time I hit the gas (again, no matter how much snow is on the ground) - I happen to notice yesterday (after turning the ESC button OFF) that the car actually handles better in the snow. Does this make sense? Now when I hit the gas, the tires spin "a little" but it doesn't pull to the right every single time I do, and I seem to be able to stop better as well. I don't even really understand what that button on and off does for me - anyone?? does anyone else also have a problem driving in the snow? My old car (Chevy Cavalier) was horrible in the snow but sadly way better than my new Elantra
thanks for any help!

Hi!
We are getting only 23 miles/gallon in our 2013 Elantra. Mixed driving of city, and highway.
The car has less than 2,000 miles on it. There are no engine lights on.
Any ideas why the mileage is so low?
Thanks

Elantra Refresh NewsEnglish Translation:
Observing the sightings of the sedan in South Korea, we can see that the lights and lanterns won a new internal design. The auxiliary headlights have also changed, with a new format. With all the camouflage, it is not possible to identify any further changes.

hey all,
you guys know that i had rust issues in 2004 elantra and was losing peace of mind with all whacky sounds and tranmission miss now and then. Scared to the core.
I walked to a dealer just to ask him the trade in and process etc. Walked out with a 2013 Elantra GLS Sedan PZEV silver.
I know i signed a little high.. but it was 1425 ( tax, title, registration included) down. monthly 259 plus they will pay the loan on my 2004 which was 5200.
I opted for dings, dents, tire, maintenance, total loss etc for additional 20. So 279 for 36. 12k Miles per year

My fiance is a Hyundai tech, and I do Hyundai warranty. My car has been making random noises in the front suspension for some time now, but we are still chasing it. some times it's creaking, today it sounded like a torn boot kind of noise. We both heard a noise pulling into 1 specific parking lot today, so it may be occuring more often. We have put it up in the air and checked, but everything looked normal. My car was part of the brakes recall, and we know it's not the brakes. We also replaced axle washers so it's not that. He is going to tighten the axle nuts today and see if that helps, but I'm wondering if anybody else has had noises in their suspension? It doesn't happen during every drive. Today noise has been heard 3 times, which is a lot compared to the norm.
I would definitely like to stop chasing this noise lol

Drove our 2012 100 miles today to get to our destination and left the ECO button depressed (light on the dash). Averaged 34.6 for the 100 miles. After eating we drove home, same road, same speed, but this time took the ECO off. Averaged 36.8 for the 100 miles back home. It was pretty cold out so mileage is about average (-26 at one point to a high of -8F).
Seems ECO is nothing more than a gimmick. Reason I did this test was the last couple of tanks I had ECO on and noticed the mpg's decreased around town.

Hi. I am a proud owner of a 2012 Elantra GLS and i like to use the sport mode "Shiftronic" all the time. My car is pretty stock except for a short ram intake i set up. Car sounds great, but to my delight i noticed a woosh sound almost like a mini turbo, only when i shift at 5500 to 6000 rpm. it sounds like air pressure releasing when i shift at high rpms. obviously, i do not have a turbocharged engine, but i notice it happens in certain situations, not all the time. it happens more easily when it's warmer outside, so it could be temperature related. its a pretty loud sound, people can hear it outside of my car if within 15 feet. I have noticed this for the past year and a half but never found out what it was. note that this sound has happened before i installed the ram intake. i love the sound, but i don't want it damaging my car if done too often. I am not very mechanical when it comes to cars, and chances are the answer is simple. But does anybody know exactly what this sound could be caused from and if this could be putting a lot of wear and stress on the parts of my car if i do this too much? thanks in advance.
-Mike

I have been having some minor back problems and I have been using the seat/lumbar warmers during my hour-long commute. The lumbar warmer is awsome, but the seat warmer is too much. My butt generates all the heat I need. Does anyone know how to disable the seat warmer and still leave the lumbar warmer functional?

Only 11K miles on my new coupe and the front drivers side wheel bearing failed. Warranty repair quick and easy. Had to have the car delivered to the closest dealership about 45 miles away. One thing I noticed on the paperwork was a previous claim and work order for front brake pads. The car was new when I purchased it and has never been to a dealer until now. The service guy said it was done at the dealership where I purchased the car. Any comments?

A lot of pics I see where usually a body kit for an Elantra is being featured will frequently show
a White Elantra and the lower portion of the wiper assemblies looks like they have some type of
white plastic cover over them.
What's up with that ?
My LTD is white . . . and I like the look but I don't see any kind of cover available anywhere in the world ?
Do you think they are just painting them ???
Has this caught anyone else's curiosity ???

Hello everyone! Good to be back. I was a member during the 5 yrs. of owning an 08 GLS.
There are things about that car that I still miss . . . the 2.0, the awesome headlight power,
wide range of avail. parts at a fair price, etc.
I had a puter crash at home, lost everything, traded the 08 and recently bought the wife a
new 2013 LDT/ White.
I am trying to find an engine block heater for this 2013 1.8 LDT ?
Emailed 2 U.S. dealers and they both said no, no, no-way.
C'mom . . . don't tell me all of our good neighbors up in Canada are all without engine
block heaters on their new $20K+ Elantra's.
Can someone who has had one installed in their 2011, 2012, 2013 - 1.8 please share the
correct part number with me ?
People say the 11's, 12's and 13 - 1.8's . . . are exactly the same ?
Appreciate whatever help can be offered and glad to be back.
Jim

I just purchased a 2013 GLS.
Of course it came without a jack and tools.
I purchased a spare from a auto wreck yard and was able to get the styrofoam tool holder.
What jack and tools will fit?
Only 2010 - 2013? or will any other years work?

I have a GLS/Ltd automatic. In the last week I've had 5 episodes of the push button starter continuing cranking after the motor is running. I have to shut the car off to stop it. The first time it happened 3 times in a row then worked properly, the second twice in a row. The dealer couldn't find a the problem and says they have to have it happen there to diagnose. Has anyone run into this? Any ideas? Thanks.

Okay guys, forgive me if there is already a thread about this but I couldn't find one. Now that I have the Invisible Mask completed, I was curious about getting a hood insulator pad / but also wondered why the car just doesn't come with one anyways?
Can anyone steer me in a direction to find one, I've been searching and can only find this one from ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-2012-Elantra-...=item19cfbaadb7...which seems to be a little high on the price and also I found one from another site for about $40 but no picture to even give me some detailed clue of what it comes with.

This is my first Hyundia/Elantra and my first post. I've Been looking at some of the towing post here but it seems they are of older models. So I'm wondering about my 2013 Elantra. Is the A/T any different or better than older models?
I'm looking to tow a open motorcycle trailer w/bike; figure 500-700lbs. Almost all highway towing; the car will have two adults + luggage. If the local test drive works well I hope to cruise at 70 mph but will I need to be in fifth or will the tranny be ok in sixth on level road?
The brakes and power on this car seem pretty stout so I'm not to concerned with those as long as I'm gentle to the car. The A/T is my primary concern.

I noticed most of the gas stations in Colorado sell 85 or 85.5 octane gas and call it regular. I live at 6,200 feet and am wondering if the 85 or 85.5 is safe for the Elantra?

Ive had the car for 1 1/2 years and just now I had to bring it in the shop for a quick fix. A little while ago a rattling noise from under the cabin 'round the exhuast sounded whenever the engine was cold or hadnt been running for a while (usually took an hour or so to cool off) when the engine temp was cool and you started to drive, the rattling noise started at round 1500+rpm. Only lasted for a minute or two since the engine temp rose and then the noise stopped. It turned out that the heating clamp over the exhaust was faulty and needed to be changed. Nothing major, only cost me $35 to repair. Car still runs great with avg. 7-8L/100km in the city.

First of all, I'm new to this forum and the Elantra. I just helped my daughter buy her first (new) car which was a 2013 GLS. We started out looking at gently used 2011 and up as she liked the newer body style. What we found was that the resale value was pretty high and it made better sense to buy a new one instead.
The Elantra GLS seems to be in fairly short supply in our area in the color she wanted. (Silver) The dealer had one with a spoiler but my daughter didn't like the car as well with it. She felt the spoiler made it look sporty and without it was more classy which was her preference. (I realize this probably isn't a popular opinion in this forum.)
The dealer suggested a deal involving taking this car (with spoiler) and he would reduce the price by the cost of the spoiler. If we didn't like it after driving it a week or two, we could bring it back and he would swap out the trunk lids with a Limited that they had on the lot in the same color. Against my better judgment (Thinking Murphy's Law in the back of my head...), I decided to go ahead with it.
My daughter drove the car for a few days and she decided to have the spoiler taken off so we took it to the dealer. After the work was done, I noticed that the trunk lid sprung open somewhat violently. When it reached the top it bounced a few times before coming to a rest. The trunk also took a bit more force to close than I thought it should as well. I mentioned it to the sales manager and he said that they all are like that when new but in several months it will weaken. He even said that sometimes they won't even go up at all after they get released after a short amount of time. I expressed my concern to him that I had never seen a new car do that in my life and that I didn't think it was right and would cause more wear and tear on the parts. He kept saying that it was normal. I eventually let him convince me that it was ok as is and left.
When I got home, I started thinking about it more and thought that perhaps they had heavier duty torsion springs to begin due to the spoiler weight and now without it, it was too strong. I looked online and found in a couple of places (forum/blogs) that the OEM spoiler kit did come with new torsion springs but so far, I have not found a parts list or picture for the OEM spoiler kit to have concrete evidence to show the dealer. An online OEM parts outlet does show a couple of different springs available for the 2013 but the descriptions are not clear enough for me to confirm if the spoiler does use a heavier duty spring.
I emailed the dealer earlier today with my preliminary findings on the possibility of the torsion springs being different but so far, no response. My email to the dealer also indicated that if indeed the springs are different, that the car that now has the spoiler on his lot will have too weak of springs to open the trunk properly.
Does anyone have any knowledge or suggestions on this subject? Even if the springs are heavier duty than they should be, do you think they will weaken at all in a short amount of time? Would it be a benefit for me to keep them? I just don't want to do any damage to the trunk or other parts. Any suggestions or information you have would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm hoping to get some feedback. I just purchased my new 2013 Elantra GLS a week ago. I'm disappointed with the suspension. When on the highway, even if I hit a small seam in the road, for instance a bridge, the car jumps substantially. I also have a much bigger problem on winding back roads with a small dip in the road almost bottoming out - when I 'm the only passenger (120 lbs). I owned a 2002 from new until 2 weeks ago at 237k plus miles. I LOVED that car. I do not feel nearly as confident driving this one. Is this the way they all handle or is there a problem with mine?

The Intermittent "Click" sound heard intermittently at Slow speeds when the car is accelerating or stopping for the past year or so, is finally fixed!
Today, I decided to take my wife's 2011 Elantra to the dealership to have this intermittent clicking sound fixed. I've searched all over the internet and this forum for answers but, to no avail.
The dealership found a Technical Service Bulletin for "Drive Axle Seals". The Hyundai Tech replaced the seals but, found the clicking noise still there. The tech then found another TSB for "Front Axle Noise". Replaced Driver side Drive Axle and the clicking noise is finally gone!...
Hope this helps someone...
