Looking to pick up a set of wheels for the summer.
Since this is my first new car, I wanna make sure I get the proper offset. I'm a big fan of poke and stretch so I want to run an offset and width that would allow me to poke slightly with a bit of stretch. I'm looking at 17x8 with a 205/40 but have no idea what offset to get. Even if I just find out the oem offset, I'll just run spacers... These are the rims I'm looking at.. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

The offset for the 2012 Elantra is 53mm.
I believe - not sure, but you may be able to veer off from that size a tiny bit - others may be able to chime in. Also - here are your specs... wheels.JPG ( 30K ) Number of downloads: 20 This is also a great site to see whats going on when you advance in sizes! http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp -------------------- |

QUOTE I'm looking at 17x8 with a 205/40 but have no idea what offset to get. Even if I just find out the oem offset, I'll just run spacers... 205/40/17's are too small. Over an inch smaller diameter than stock. The 215/45/17 stock tire size is best and offers a lot of tire options. As far as having the wheels stick out a bit, please don't use spacers. Just go for a wheel offset that's a few mm less than stock, but don't go overboard (no lower than 45). Otherwise, you may get wheel rub with a full load in the car. -------------------- |

Hey-225/40/17 would be an option if you like that particular tire profile size & they'd fit nicely on an 8" wheel.

The info is great. Their tires are about $60.00 more than what I can get the same tire for at my local tire store. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I wonder if the 40 series will ride a little harsh on the car. I guess it depends on the tire.

Hey-the 40's will probably ride a bit harsher than the 45's. The 215/45's will fit an 8" wheel so that's what I'd go with. If you want to go wider, you'd have to go with 225/40's.

Guys, what do you think about this 235/30 R20 ??? will they fit?? THanks, need an answer asap, just saw a promo. They'll be about 3/4 inches wider and 3/4 inches bigger in diameter than stock. It's hard to say. You can use the club's tire calculator found here: http://elantragtclub.tripod.com/elantra/id201.html For 20" sizes, Tire Rack recommends that size for the Elantra, but the wheel offset will make some difference. You'll certainly feel every molecule on the road. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

30 series tires on an Elantra? I'm not recommending a setup like that.
With that little rubber between the wheels and the road, every pothole is a potential bent rim. -------------------- |

Never mind that you'd rattle out every filling in your mouth. Even with a normal suspension setup, those are going to ride VERY harsh. -------------------- |
