I remember reading some where that for every thousand feet you lose so much horse power. does any one else know of this and what the percentage is? Also will I need to recalibrate my ECU when i move back to Texas to a elevation of 600 ft. from 8000 or would it not make a diiff.

now finally I can log in this site. I remember I tried about a year ago, didn't work.
anyway, I got 03 black GT 4DR (no option... which means 5sp also)
I am a member on elantraxd.com, live around Phoenix AZ.
I guess I will learn a lot here since it's for only GT.
I don't know what should I write... I am from Korea, English....no good
Good to see you all!

Hi, i bought my elantra in aug 04 and only just started to used this forum, the clubs has already provided me with some helpfull advice. Anyway a bit about my car, its an "FX" model which is basically a base model with astrel mags and a spoiler, other than that i've done a few mods to improve the car in areas i thought it lacking, or bring it up to spec.
I installed 55w halogen lights in the boot to improve the lighting, i added air horns because the stock horn wasn't very loud, i've also upgraded the sound system, by adding a 12" sub, JVC headunit and soundstream speakers. On the performance side of things i've got a k&n pannel filter but im also looking at new springs and better tyres soon.
Anyway just thought i'd introduce myself and a bit about my car.
P.S if there are any other aussies here, msg me, we should organise a cruise or something.

Hi guys I was just looking around for a good Elantra site and came across this one. After reading some of the posts here I was very happy to see that I finally found a site that isn't full of BSers and people that rag on you if you don't know everything. I've been on alot of forums for different things and I have never been a big poster but I do read alot of posts and answer the ones I do come across that I know about. Hope that isn't a big deal on getting answers to questions that I may have in the future.
Anyways to something more interesting. I have a 99 Elantra that for now is stock besides a K&N filter and a nice start to a soundsystem. I do plan on modding the interior and some slight mods under the hood but I don't think I'll be doing much to the exterior as I don't like to draw too much attention to myself. I believe its a GL but I'm not sure does anybody know what the difference is between a GL and a GLS?
Well thanks for listening to me babble. B)

Hey all! This is my first posting here. I have a question, since I got my 04 GT back in May I have been using premium fuel because the gas up where I live is insanley cheap and causes the car to ping when going up hills. My question is, am I causing harm to the engine? I don't drive far distances and the car sits on the weekends. I have 5,000 miles on it in a period of 10 months. Let me know!

Well I am currently looking into buying a 2005 Elantra GT 5 door in Tidal Wave Blue to replace my recently laid to rest 04 Neon but i have a few questions about the Elantra. How do you think the Elantra will compare with my Neon SXT in handling and acceleration? What type of gas milage do you actually get with your elantra's? Does the factory radio have RCA hookups on the back? Do you think my insurance will go up or down when being compared to the neon? Also if i am correct the 5 doors don't have 6x9's in the rear how bad does this hurt the bass output with the factory radio? Well sorry for all the questions but i am trying to figure out if i want to go with an Elantra. Also what are some good performance parts sites for the Elantra?

Hey everyone, I just purchased a new 2005 Elantra GT Hatchback! I just love it and I don't miss my 2001 Focus SE at all. All I can say is that for the value and quality, you just can't beat anything Hyundai.
My Elantra GT is Tidal Wave Blue and looks like the one in the promotional booklet they have in the showroom. The first thing I did was add a dual thin silver and red stripe on each side of the body! It really looks great.

Hello to all, I just bought a '01 Elantra GLS on thursday. I'm looking forward to all the knowledge brought and stored here. I've found these car forums a source of valuable information over the years. I've been a member of TaurusClub.com, StreetKiaz.com and am a current member of ChevyTalk.com (and now of course this one).

i'm shopping for an elantra hatchback on the east coast. love that there's a whole community of folks out here dedicated to this car. i did not know about "modding" possibilities till i started reading up on the car. here's my laundry list of thoughts - please respond as you see fit, welcome all thoughts. thanks!!
- any advice on best way/place to get a well-priced '04 hatch GT/GLS on east coast USA (tri-state)? will dealers still have good '04 models now or are only the "lemons" left? how do i find a dealer demo model?
- am i right to think the '04 is a "better value" than '05? i.e. has CD player, will not pay the new car$ premium?
- will warranty be in effect regardless of where/how I buy? will warranty be affected by basic mods?
- what are the most basic mods that immediately enhamce perforamnce? i am not into custom appearance/interior/engine sound, etc.... rather, want to know what are the mechanical "good to have" mods for acceleration & power, or ot correct known design weak spots. for instance, seems everyone is changing the air intake and doing cold air intake right off the bat. what exactly is debadging and why do it? does debadging require body work to fill tiny holes?
- honestly, is there much difference in getting manual vs. auto trans in terms of reliability? I am going for auto to make the car easy to share with other drivers when need to do so... but are there any issues with its auto transmission i should know?
- what are the real differences in the GT "tuning" vs non-GT "tuning"?
- what's the "Ario"? - saw that on an Elantra dealer website - is that a nickname for the Elantra ? are there 2 engine options on the '05?
thanks!!!

Hello again all!
For those who don't remember me I thought I'd post an introduction:
I purchased my first new car last spring (2004 Elantra GT Sedan). Later that summer we needed another car so I purchased (2004 Accent GT Hatchback). Before those two vehicles I owned a used (1997 Sonata GLS).
Here's the skinny on my Elantra:
2004 Elantra GT SedanColor: Crimson
Mods: 30% Tinted Windows (except windshield), Tinted window vents, Tiburon aluminum gas pedals (check out
my DIY), K&N air filter, Easy intake mod (check out the DIY), De-badged, Avante emblems added, Installed euro-style antenna, Pioneer DEH-P960MP head unit, MTX 400 watt amp, (2) MTX 12" Subs
Future Mods: TWM short throw shifter (ordered), Tib sway bar (ordered)
You can check out the car (pre-mod) here:
http://www.members.tripod.com/electronic_i...se/vehicles.htmI'll be taking some pics of the car when I bring it out of hibernation (winter here in Wisconsin) and you can all see it after all the mods have been performed.
I've found that the new Accent GT's are a nice little car too. It's extremely fun to drive and is SUPER responsive. If you go with the hatchback version it also offers ALOT of versatility. I haven't done anything to that except install the sweet Kenwood head unit that came in my Elantra (which I removed to install the sweeter Pioneer). My wife mainly drives around the Accent and I get to beat around in my 1991 honda civic work horse.
Take it easy! Let me know what you think or any suggestions you think I should try out on my Elantra!

My wife and I just picked up a Sterling '05 GT Hatch on Saturday afternoon. We were just planning on going for a test drive and ended up buying one off the lot because the deal was too good to pass up. The sticker price of our car was $17,589, and we got it for $13,600 including the $1,750 rebate.
My only disappontment was that they did away with the Kenwood system for 2005, but the stock HU sounds pretty decent anyway. Does anyone know how many watts it produces?
This will mainly be my wife's car for commuting but with the hatchback we will probably take it on weekend visits to Grandma and Grandpa's house as there is plenty of room for a baby, a toddler and a small dog. The Xterra (or minivan that will soon replace it) will still be necessary for longer trips.
I will take some pictures and post them when I get a chance.

This is "ONE COOL SITE!" Great job Mitch! This site is awesome! Sorry it took me so long to get here!
How's everyone been doing in the forum these days?

I bring home my 05 5dr manual Tidal Wave GT in 2 days. I dislike the "external" mods that make cars look flashy, but I want to make my new GT personalized to suit me. I am fairly good with cars, but new to the Elantra. Interior and performance tweeks seem like the best ones to try, with the easy ones to try first. Any recommendations.

Hey all, what is the recommended strut bar to install without moving around the cruise module? Is there a great bar that I should use that requires I move it? If the bar is worth it, I can move it, but I would rather focus on other efforts and make the strut bar install quick. Any opinions?
