ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ The Welcome Zone _ Pumbaa's back with his 3rd XD

I bought the car from a member on here. It has 156k miles. It's got Koenig imagine wheels, H&R lowering springs with the 1" drop. A K&N air filter. Resonator box removed and a Tiburon Shifter with a Momo shift knob. The bad is the rear hatch is stuck shut, the windshield is cracked and the timing belt an water pump need to be replaced. Also after getting it home I found the ebrake didn't hold. After some inspecting, found one of the cables to the brakes was froze. So I gotta put some money into it. I replaced the hyper white fog lights with some yellow ones I had left from my last 03 GT. Also installed my tiburon foot pedals. My first mod was to the fog light switch to make the bulbs come on with the running lights. So you'll see me around. Hoping the car lasts me me a long time.

Update - I bought a new brake cable so now it works awesome. Then I changed, the timing belt, water pump and other belts. Then today tinkered and got the rear hatch fixed! Some pieces from the spoiler broke off and fell down into the latch and jammed it.

Great job getting it all fixed! Must have been satisfying.

Hey-The car looks great. The repairs are rather minor and typical for that age of car. Congratulations!

Welcome back. And your car looks great.

Thanks all for the welcomes back. I got lucky with this car. I have been driving a Miata for the last few years. I have a 6 year old daughter and my exwife left me a few years back so the Miata worked for the the two of us. I met a wonderful lady a 3 years ago and she has a 7 year old son. He's the ham in the back of the car. So it was time to sell the Miata and get a bigger car. An Elantra GT just felt right.

This particular car popped on Craigslist in my for $3500, like the first week I tried selling Miata. I had my 93 Miata listed for $4600 with 140k mi. I got no bites the first week. So I dropped it to $3950, then I got a couple calls. My family and I went to a wedding far off in the rolling wheat fields of eastern Washington. While out there I got a call from a guy that had Cash in hand. So I left it up to my parents to sell the Miata. When I came home I had cash, whoohoo. I checked around for more Elantra GT hatchbacks with a 5spd. But I wasn't having much luck, the red one was no longer on Craigslist. I found a couple way down in Portland, a Blue one in particular. So I made the road trip down and checked the car out. It looked great online, the dealer insisted it was a runner and driver. It looked decent but but there were little things that bugged me. I drove it and noticed the ball joints were going out. So that was a waste of time.

While I was out to lunch with my dad and daughter after checking out that car, I started checking for other potential cars. I was interested in some Mazda Protege 5's. Then my mom called and said the red was was back on and it was $2500. I figured it had something seriously wrong for that low of a price. I called the owner and spoke for awhile about the car. I found out he owned it since new and he was a member on the Elantra forums. So I began feeling better about the car. He explained he knocked of $1000 because of the rear hatch and cracked windshield. So I made the drive back up from Portland and took a look at the car. It looked and sounded great. So I bought it!

I think my only mods will be a tibby sway bar with the metal endlinks, some new struts, some window tint, and maybe some new wheels. The polished lip on the Imagines are pretty corroded.

Roy, I still talk to Colin on Facebook.

Popeye, awesome! I wish I had more of those tibby struts bars. I would love to add a new one.
