Why did y'all keep the Spectra5 SX a secret from me? You bastage!!!!

ANyway... the reason I bring this up.... I talked my fatherinlaw into looking (and he bought after comparing) at one. So, the wife and I flew out Fri night (from Indy) to PHX for a suprise b-day party for her mom. Sunday, on my way to the airport the f-i-l let me drive his spectra through the mountains the back route from Oro Valley to I-10 at Casa Grande. beautiful drive by the way. I was really, REALLY impressed with that car. 28k miles, 100% bone stock. Car was very well composed, handled extremly well, was quieter than my elantra. Other than his being a slushbox... I would merely change the rear sway and tires. Rest of the car was a perfect DD/spirited driver. Something entertaining enough to keep you happy, but not stiff and uncomfortable at all.

Why didn't you guys say something? This car is what the EGT SHOULD have been.

It is....I still have mine (not in use). I did not feel the ass shake I felt with the EGT in the 5. Odd.

I looked at the Spectra5 before i bought the Elantra. Might have gone for it if it hadn't been for the bad crash ratings.

I looked at one too, but actually found the 2009 Spectra5 louder than the 09 Elantra Sedan. I know, its like comparing apples and oranges, but I also likd the interior of the Elantra and felt it was bigger inside. The Spectra drove quite well, but at the time, the price point was hard to justify. They were offering either $3000 off OR 0% financing, where as Hyundai was offering 0% AND $3500 off. It really in the end turned out to be a no brainer I guess.

The spectra is the same platform as the XD/2, so it's like comparing a new Elantra sedan to the older Elanrta sedan. Nice car still. I'd pick one up if I were looking.

The inlaws experienced teh opposite. The Kia delaer was willing to wheel and deal. The Hyundai delaer was selling so well they pretty much said "That's the price. If you won't buy it, the next guy will." THey didn't buy it and went with the Kia instead.

I bought my EX after comparing the 2008 Elantra, 2008 Suzuki SX4, and Spectra. I drove an SX5 and my 2007 EX. SX5 does have better roll control and generally a bit tighter handling, but the EX does fine.

Needless to say I bought the Spectra, at just over 12 grand compared to somewhere in the 15s for the other two, it was a no brainer.

I am an ABS addict, this is the first car in a long time I've bought sans ABS.

The stock four wheel discs feel very well set up, and I definitely had to do a couple of brain recalibrations after years of ABS-induced laziness/inattentiveness and turning over the emergency-braking work to the system.
After my first slide through a stop sign in the snow and I woke up pretty fast. Also got rid of the Eagle LSs, which are near-useless in snow.

I'm very happy with my KIA, it's simple, straightforward, solid, and paid for.

Well I've been gone a while but I'm baakkk.
Just put new wheels and tires on the Spectra, MB 7X wheels from Discount Tire and Altimax HP 195.60.15 which I'd had lying around since switching to Dunlops for winter 08-09.

Altimax are quieter, and shorter. Speedo error is 5 MPH @ 80, I'll run a different post because that's a big error.

Still needs more roll control. Don't know the diameter of the rear SX bar, I wonder if that would do the trick.

So where are the OTHER Kia owners?
