Howdy all,
I sold my house and no longer have the ability to do my own maintenance.
I was hoping someone could recommend a good shop in the Hillsboro / Beaverton area for some maintenance on my 2002 Elantra.
- I want the automatic fully flushed
- The fuel filter changed
- Coolant flushed
- Maybe power steering flushed
OR, if someone from the club lives in the general area and would like to do it, I will gladly pay you.
I'm wiilling to travel outside the area to find a good person/place.
I simply want the job done right. I trust almost no one to do work properly. I've experienced utter incompetence from all Hyundai dealerships I've tried so far, although I haven't tried the ones in this area yet (in case anyone has feedback on them).

Ok, so I've been living in my current situation for about 7 months now. I moved from Palm Springs to L.A. to take a job at one of the largest and nicest BMW dealers in the country. I took the first reasonable room that I could find so that I could get out here quickly. I quickly realized that my roommate is a douche bag. He sells pot out of the house, had the house given to him by his mom, and he keeps the rent money, didn't let me know when my dog got lost, and has mood swings and you never know what's going to piss him off.
Well I finally found another place to move to. I'll be saving $50 per month, be a little closer to work, 4 blocks from the dog park, and 8 blocks from the Redondo Beach Pier. The room is larger, the area is nicer, I'll be able to see the ocean from my street, and the new roommate seems a lot more responsible. I can't wait! I move tomorrow.

I know it's contraversial. I know that people have mixed feelings based on one thing or another. For those who do not know: California has given homosexuals the ability to get married. There is a proposition in the works to get this right taken away. This is proposition 8. Voting "yes" will take away their right to get married, voting "no" will allow them to keep it.
I'm not asking you to be gay, to accept it, to think it's okay, to go to a pride parade, etc. All I'm asking is that you give people equal rights. The rights people are supposed to be guaranteed by the constitution of this country.

Does anyone know some good wrecking yards or parts stores for Elantras in the greater Phoenix area? Recently bought an 04 GLS, good deal, fine shape except for a few blemishes that I want to replace: stained / cracked dash window (what would I call that BTW?), passenger vanity cover busted off visor, gear shift knob missing the decorative cap, rear bumper two dings (white), missing 2 floor mats (beige). Yesterday I went to two yards near Buckeye: Ecology and Pull-n-Save, nothing there, all Elantra were from 90s, older style no good for parts. This is the problem with highly reliable cars like Elantra - they last forever so you can't get cheap used parts for little minor stuff. (plenty of newer Chevs and Fords at the yards as always, same no matter where you go). Any suggestions from Az locals will be much appreciated.

I'm new to Hyundai. I just bought an '06 Elantra AT w/6k for me and a '07 Elantra AT with 10 miles for my wife.
I'd like to hook up with some people who knows about the Elantra and discuss various DIY projects.

A few weeks back when I was considering Pumbaa's Eibach lower springs, Ricerrx7 offered to help me install them if I got them as I don't have much of a shop or tools to do such stuff. I decided against them at that time as I needed to spend that money on tires instead. Well I had some other stuff that needed installation and ricer again offered to help with this. I have to say that Adam (ricerrx7) was very generous to offer to do some work on my car gratis, someone he'd never met and while it was remove and replace he offered to do it nonetheless all inside the beautiful facility that he calls work, Palm Springs BMW. So I made the trek up to Palm Springs and met up with Adam. The drive up was uneventful and I was glad to make it in good time and getting good mileage, even with the AC blowing halfway there.
I had bought some fancy front rotors and pads along with a 19.5mm rear sway bar and though I could have installed the bar by myself, it is vastly easier to do with the car up on a lift. Same with the brakes, add to that air tools and such and the job less of a hassle, what a lucky guy to be working in such a nice environment. Granted Adam did most of the work and was happy to do it, I did lend a hand a little bit here and there. He also did an alignment on the swanky new Hunter system as seen below and brought the car back into spec, though after almost 3 years and 43000 miles it was in pretty decent shape in that regard. The roads are crummy here (San Diego) in spots but not as bad as Detroit...
We took a test drive and chatted a bit afterwards and then swapped tail-lenses as we both felt each other's lenses would look better on the other car, and indeed they do!
All in all I'm glad I drove to meet a real cool member of the club and to have an honest, hard working guy work on the car. Cheers Adam!

hey guys, this is in the member's section since I figured I might be able to rope someone into helping me here. lol
I've been looking to buy an espresso maker (I'm kind of a foodie) but the good ones are pricey and I can't justify spending tons of money on a new machine right now. I've found the exact one I was looking for on Craigslist but it's in San Diego and I'm in Canada.
They are listing the item for 50$, if anyone is willing to help me I would like to send whomever 100$ to buy it for me then ship it to me, paypal would certainly be the easiest way to get this done. The reason why I've asked for help here is 'cause this will be a Christmas gift to myself and my wife and the price is too good to pass up.
Here's the Craigslist listing
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=saecoI understand if nobody takes me up on this, it's a pretty wacky idea but thanks for at least reading my post.

It was a long journey, but it was fun. Spent last weekend in New Oleans with my sister and dad. My sister used to take people on "destruction tours", but they are quickly becoming "renovation tours". The city is really coming back. The French quarter wasn't damaged at all, but we went to some of the places that were. Lakeview has a lot of development happening, and is looking quite nice. Kind of weird seeing the search markings and water lines on the still-abandoned properties though. The lower ninth is pretty much gone. You drive through that area and see random porches and foundations (and random chickens running through the streets), but almost no houses. Spent Saturday night on Bourbon street, and that was a cool experience. It's the off season for the area, but the arena bowl was last weekend, so that drew in some crowds.
Monday we (my dad and I) drove to San Antonio, and when we got to our hotel it turns out that they had upgraded us to a suite! So that was pretty cool. Didn't do any sight seeing there, as my dad used to go there all the time for business, and I saw the Alamo last time I drove through there (and I avoided all city streets due to having the 4x8 uhaul trailer following behind me).
Tuesday we drove to El Paso. What a beautiful drive! You'd think it would be desolate and depressing, but it was incredible! Cacti, plateaus, mountains, just all around great scenery.
Then Wednesday we arrived in Palm Springs where my cousin was waiting to greet us. I'm staying at his resort until my dad leaves, so that my new roommate doesn't feel strained putting my dad up for the weekend. And the condo in which I will be living is incredible! I feel like I'm ripping them off with the amount I'm paying. I'll only be living there temporarily though, as my cousin is going to remodel part of his resort, which will leave a room open for me to live in (I'll be living at a beautiful resort in paradise!) I'm so happy to be out here!
Tomorrow my dad and I are driving out to Las Vegas for the weekend. He hasn't been out there since the first time I moved here 3 years ago, and it's been about 2 years for me, but this is the first time I'll be there since I turned 21, so that should be interesting...
He'll fly out of Vegas on Tuesday, and I'll return here. But then at the end of next week, my brother's stuff is supposed to arrive in Manhattan Beach, where he is moving to, so I'll go help him get settled in. It's going to be great living so close to my big brother again! (I have the best big brother in the world. When I turned 16, he took me on an Outward Bound trip in to the Colorado Rockies where we went mountain climbing, face climbing, white water rafting, camping, and did high-ropes courses)
Then I'll start looking for a job (reality has to set in at some point, right?) Shouldn't be too hard to find one out here...
Towing the Uhaul sucked. The one I got had a water leak, so my mattress and dad's clothes got wet. It also brought my gas mileage down to 23mpg average, whereas I usually get 38mpg. But the car handled the trailer quite well (only had to downshift on the really large hills).
All in all, I'm happy to be home!

I'm moving back to California at the end of the month!
A little background; Grew up in Michigan (lived in the same house for the first 18 years of my life). Moved to Rancho Cucamonga, Ca at age 18 to go to school (UTI). After school, I moved here to Nashville. I've been here for over a year and a half, and have never really liked it. I commonly tell people that I regretted moving out of California as soon as I hit the Arizona border. Well I'm finally rectifying my mistake. I'm going to pack up my things, and start driving on the 30th of this month. I'll arrive in Palm Springs (which was my home away from home when I lived out there) the first week in August. I'll be driving down to New Orleans to see my sister, then take the 10 freeway over.
I can't wait! I'm so excited! And to make it even better, my brother just accepted a job offer in Long Beach, so I'll be able to see him on weekends and what not, and I haven't lived close to him in years (he's lived in Boston for quite a while).

So I have about 12 days left before I fly off to Korea and everything is looking pretty good. But oddly enough, the closer I have been getting to the trip the more free I have become.
In the last two weeks I lost both my jobs due to the businesses closing, I lost my apartment due to the fact that it will be torn down in August and I am being forced out (my stuff is currently being moved into storage), and I also got two big commissions totaling $2,250, plus my apartment deposit, plus severance from both jobs. So my credit card debt is zeroed as well.
My girlfriend believes that it's fate and I should stay in Asia. What do you all think? Should I kiss America goodbye? If not, any ideas on what I should do when I get back?

I have been sending emails out to body kit companies for the HD body style. I got a reply email today from AITRacing.com. They are the ones who did the one off for the David Bensend Performance Marketing Elantra at SEMA. They need a donor car near their location in The City of Industry Cali. I am in Phoenix and to far away for this. They will need the car for 2 to 6 weeks for the kit to be created. If you have or know of someone near the location that is willing to do this please contact them.

For anyone who hasn't already heard, a Tanker Truck Blew up on Sunday morning melting the structure of the 580 connector ramp and making it collapse onto another connector ramp (the 880). For those of you who don't know, these two ramps, pretty much connect the greater east bay to the west bay. I was flipping out on Sunday night, as this is my only way to get to the I-80 or San Francisco. So far the traffic has been good due to people getting advanced warning and taking alternate routes. But I got to the BART station today at 7:30 and the spill over lot was already completely packed. Usually the spill over lot doesn't get filled till about 8:30 - 9am.
Driving to work is going to be hell for the next three weeks. Although, I will say that the drive is one helava lot more pleasant despite the extra 20 minutes of driving. The the scenery is a lot nicer along the 13,4, and I-680.
Here is a news article with pictures of the wreckage:
