So pretty much every 99-00 Elantra I've seen has a broken console lid hinge. It's not hard to figure out why. The hinge is a wimpy piece of plastic that bends back and forth. After awhile, they break. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2810/8927447338_c91bb59cdf_z.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3747/8926832575_77b183ede4_z.jpg I picked this up at the store for $1.99 http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3706/8926831381_1c7b276464_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2850/8927443538_714689e218_z.jpg First remove the old hinge. Then put the new one on. I reused one of the holes and made a new hole. The plastic isn't very tough. No need for a drill, a screw driver works fine. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5441/8927442312_2ace237b9f_z.jpg Do the same for the lid. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5327/8927441096_7a5c39270d_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2894/8926826635_00e340dfca_z.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3734/8926825383_07092d0134_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7395/8927437540_acb31bd184_z.jpg This is very easy and only takes a few minutes from start to finish. I regret not doing this sooner.
