Well my wife took her car to Firestone to get an oil change before we hit the road tomorrow and they said that she should probably change her battery. Unfortunately we didn't have much choice as I didn't schedule an appointment until last night so I just had her take it there to get done. I have used them once before since moving down here and they did a fine job and didn't try to "sell" anything that wasn't needed. The car is a 2008 Hyundai Entourage. The battery tested at 380, whereas OEM is 660 amps. The car has 52k miles and we've owned it for just over 3 years. The car starts like a gem, so I would be inclined not to change it until it starts giving us problems, but the wifey is like I better not get stranded in winter. Since she does run the kids all over the place, I would rather be safe than sorry, especially as I do travel every now and then for work (and have a few trips coming up over the next 2-3 months). What are your thoughts?

Alex, Battery are very easy an cheap to replace. I would just do it. It is your Wife and two kids were talking about. It would not be a fun day if there stuck some place. Just do it man. You know what they say , "A happy wife is a happy life".

well the battery on the van was quoted at $110 (including labor though). Ahh I will probably just bite the bulet. Also looking at getting new tires. This will be the third set of tires on the van. The rear tires have a fair amount of tread life left, but the fronts are just about worn out. We did rotate them, but they should've been done at the last oil change and weren't. Even so, the fronts were already nearing time to be replaced then and at that point rotating them wouldn't have saved anything. Now 5k miles later they're ready
I just have to decide if I replace all 4 and keep the two rear ones for emergency, or just do two now and then two down the road. I also like having tires matched so I might just do all four. -------------------- Please consider helping keep the club online and independent. Donate here to help the club.

It'd be a good time to think about snow tires if you feel they're needed...

As slowgls says, batteries are not major items of expense or PITA (usually) to replace.
Better safe than sorry. I replaced the battery in my Spectra at about four years old. Maintenance delayed is maintenance missed. -------------------- |

Well we have a new battery and 4 new tires. Hopefully these tires will last a little longer. They will get a good test tomorrow! On a side note I had wanted to get the two rear tires back as they still had some decent life left to them, but my wife didn't think of it when she was picking up the van as it was late and she didn't ask. I will call tomorrow and hopefully they still have them.

Considering all the electronics in the van I would swap it too. I can't remember if yours has the electric sliding doors or not.
The only time the Sonata has left me stranded was when the battery crapped out. I ignored all of the warning signs 3 or 4 days leading up to it's demise. Weirdness in the electric locks and the windows wouldn't 'auto' up. This was at about 45k miles. Edit... Good call before taking a road trip. It's been a long time since I had a battery leave me stranded. There's a reason for that. I do need to replace the truck battery though, as it is over 6 years old but it passed the last test.
