Well Mr. Alex, I got my bumps in, and I owe it all to you. THank you so much!
I was going to take pics, but it got cold and I got irritated. When I have all of my connections and wires sorted, I'll post pics of the trunk...
Man... two 12s fed by an 1100W amp shake Esmeralda (my Elantra) to her sexy little core... lol!

Great write-up....I will be using this in the future if I don't decide on a head unit later. Any recommendations on the converter? brand?

also, How does it sound being how the car is a hatch? I've heard the bass is crazy good.

Thanks. I just bought a converter from my local stereo shop, don't even recall what brand it was. I wasn't too concerned with a brand for the converter as really any will work fine.

Yes a small car plus a hatch means great bass. I have a fairly cheap setup with 2 10's and it sounds great and very loud. Nearly any sub will produce a good amount of bass for this car!

Excellent instructions. Thanks for taking the time to document the process.

Two questions:

1. Does the amp overhead in the storage area under the hatch? There is no air circulation and so I'm concerned about heat build-up.

2. I would assume that the GT hatch cover would suppress a lot of the bass volume. Is this the case?

Thanks!

Bob, thank you and I'm happy to help where possible! In regards to your questions:

1. First, my cover isn't completely tight as the ground wire keeps it slightly cracked. That being said, the amp has yet to overheat since being in there and I have taken many 2 or so hour trips in the car. Not sure if going on a longer trip would potentially cause it to overheat, but at anything under 2-3 hours I've been fine. As was suggested to me, you could always add a small computer fan or something in the compartment, but I haven't had the need. I too had the same concern and through trials and testing I have become comfortable that it is perfectly fine in there and have completely forgot that it is in the compartment.

2. Honestly the hatch cover suppresses less than a trunk would on a sedan. A hatch is actually a perfect enclosure for bass, so it gets plenty loud in the car. I also turned my amp down as it was too loud for my taste and whenever I have the kids or wife in the car, I just fade it front a couple notches and it basically shuts the subs off. So you do not need to worry at all about the bass being muffled.

Let me know if you have any other questions and welcome to the club! thumbsup.gif

First post on this forum and I wanted to give a BIG thank you to Alex2013GT! I could not have done this without his fine tutorial and the links he suggested within his post. Tearing apart a new car can feel pretty risky, hoping the trim doesn't break or scratch and never knowing what you'll find behind the dash. So my hat is off to you for posting this Alex!

I removed the standard stereo included with the car, non-nav unit, XM Ready. I replaced it with the following:

Alpine INA-W900 Touchscreen DVD Nav Head Unit
Alpine KCE-250BT (will eventually upgrade to the 400BT as the 250BT was a freebie)
Alpine KCA-SC100 Sirius Satellite Radio Plug and Play Interface
Sirius SCVDOC1 for Alpine units
PAC TR-7 Video Bypass (foot and parking break feature)
Metra 95-7357HG Dash Kit (boy did this feel like it took forever before it was released!)
Metra 70-7304 Stereo Harness

Now I just need to find a distributor up here who sells the USBHY1 for Hyundai/Kia to utilize the factory USB and Aux. Speakers are holding up so far, but I can already tell those will be my next project...and maybe a sub and amp!

Before (okay, during) and After:
