It's supposed to be based on the V-8 Genesis. Looks interesting!

It reminds me stylistically of the Lamborghini Estoque and the Aston Martin Rapide. However, from Kia at this point, I would expect the functionality of a Fisker Karma (which are finally being delivered, slowly, I read). That is, I'm guessing that will be a hybrid with 40-50mpg and performance will be OK.

I like those comparisons. Except for the uber-rich, most people these days seem to want a car that feels like it has good pick-up and passing power, yet is a relative gas-sipper. If they were to put a strong 4-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor under the hood, they could achieve a car that does just that.

I LOVE the sports sedan look. I also love the suicide door handles, but I doubt those would make it to market. I find the hood bump interesting, and I like that.

Will Hyundai and Kia continue to split their brand image? As it stands right now, there seems to be two directions for Hyundai. The Veloster and Genesis Coupe obviously appeal to the sporty, younger crowd, and I would assert that the Kia Forte and Optima would match with that target market better than their Hyundai counterparts. The Sonata and Elantra have more of a refined, classy look, which appeals to the more mature audience. If I were to rearrange the brands, here's how I would split the car models:

Hyundai:
Accent (add a hybrid that gets 50+mpg)
Elantra
Elantra Coupe
Sonata (add a wagon)
Genesis Sedan
Equus

Kia:
Rio/Rio5
Veloster
Forte/Forte5
Genesis Coupe
Optima
Sports Sedan concept

I totally agree with you^ I am not sure why hyundai is suddenly putting out "sporty" models here or there when the Kia brand seems to fit the image much better. I am also afraid that Hyundai will downgrade the kia products so that it does not step on the performance toes of cars such as the veloster, elantra coupe r.

^hahaha

i'm not sure about stepping on toes...kia is still its own company. it will be interesting to see what happens with this. There was also rumors (saw a pic somwhere too) that kia was coming out with a gen coupe competitor...looked very audi R8ish.

you guys do realize that kia's new designer is from audi....

Overall -- pretty nice, but not really "out there" as much as a concept could be.
