I seem to have a hard time finding decent, chatter-free wiper blades for the XD.
The current pair I have is not THAT old but chatters (GRATES) like crazy and it's LOUD, no matter how wet the windshield, and it's CONSTANT.
I have tried different brands in the past, Valeo, Bosch Icon, RainX weatherbeater, etc.
If I get the OEM blades, how hard are they to install?
(Who makes them? Denso? Or do I need to get from dealer?)
Seems like the best memories are with the Bosch... But there has to be something that's a bit cheaper, and still offer normal performance...
Any ideas or suggestions, keeping the fact that winter is also near?
Thsnks much in advance..

Did some searching, but couldn't find the info...
What tires come on a default 2005 GLS Elantra? Aren't they like Toyos or something like that?
I have michelans now.
At any rate, took my car into the shop today since my steering wheel has been shaking, the car pulls to the left and feels rough, plus the belts squeal with the cold weather.
Turns out there is a nail in my front right tire (dunno how I missed it) and its...flat? Okkkk then how the f*** was I driving on it??
Anyways, I know that like back in March I got 4 new tires. At least I'm 99.99999999999999% sure I did, or was supposed to from the Sullivan Tire I usually go to down in Salem. I'm up in Manchester here and there was no record of the purchase there, or in Salem. I even called Salem myself, checked through what receipts I have and nautta.. Now I'm at 80k miles and given the ammount of driving I've done I know I should have had them replaced, but I haven't gone anywhere but to Sullivan tire since I got married. So where the hell else I could have gotten 4 new tires from, no clue. And why there is no record of it..no clue! Unless I'm totally nuts, but I really doubt that because im pretty good about keeping maintenance up, yah know.
Anywho, I'm going to be looking throug a lot of paperwork tonight and receipts to see what I can find.

What a ride! Literally. August 1, 2005 is the day I bought my Elantra brand new. I have my garage here and I'm very close friends with Mitch. So he's heard the stories and seen the pictures. I still call her my BabyHyundai. She has now 160,000 miles and some minor rust spots. I traded in my Ford Ranger for something better on gas mileage and more useful in my life at that time in 2005. My husband at the time was thrilled to drive a Hyundai again. He owned one before we met and really like it. (I am now divorced from him for other reasons.) But the BabyHyundai has never let me down in the 10 years since I signed on the dotted line. She has helped with 2 practice drives for my ex step son to get his driver license and my nephew. But unfortunately, both didn't pass the first times. She took her first trip to Canada 2 weeks after I bought her. Then the weekend trip to meet my future in laws at that time in the Boston area. She's seen the coast of Maine as well on a week trip to Winterport, ME. Then the hit and run accident I had 5 years ago that I thought was the end of my ownership with my BabyHyundai. A full size Chevy truck hit the back and spun me into a parking lot at 35mph and left the scene. I was able to get her fixed and she has been fine ever since. Plenty of winters to and from my job for 7 years 30 miles one way. 2 years of delivering and making new customers on my new journey of selling Avon when I was on unemployment.
Now, she is still going strong embracing her 10th winter here in Maine. I travel 32 miles one way to my job at L.L. Bean and have for 5 years now. I just got another compliment that my BabyHyundai doesn't look 10 years old! I hope to have her another 10 years, but if that should not happen, I hope to purchase another Hyundai.

I stopped at my local dealer to see if the hd had any outstading recalls that need to be done. Well tomorrow im getting the eps update and the undercoating for the control arms and sub frame. This is about the only time i would go and have them work on my car. Lol, Should be a fun way to spend a few hours. Free cookies and soda. May even test drive something.

What is the OEM part # for the replacement wiring connector for the trans range switch for the '99 Elantra (with Mitsubishi 4-sp trans)? I'm looking for the same type of extension wiring kit for it as Hyundai made for the MAF (which was part # 91400-29AB1). Thanks.

Hello All
As a UK member I have noticed a decline in the number of Elantra's coming on sale in the UK. Where have they gone? Are they being kept by their owners or are they being scrapped?
At present there are only about 6 2.0 ltr petrol CDX on the second hand market. Most of the CDX on sale here are diesels, why I don't know. I have been thinking of getting another car, mine needs; cam belt, front discs, front to rear brake pipes and some body work. Although I,ve looked hard there doesn't seem to be any other car that ticks the same boxes. The only one that's come close in my opinion is a Sonata.
Being keen on classic cars, I have a 1966 MK3 Ford Zodiac, I have also been thinking of keeping the XD and treating more as a preserved classic, after all, from reading this forum there seems to be plenty of life left in it at 116,450 miles. Structurally it is 100%, probably the best car I've ever seen in that respect. And I've given it a new lease of life by fitting an Genuine throttle position sensor. The previous sensor came from Ebay and was obviously faulty from the moment I put it on. The car needs some trim parts, but the local dealer seems very helpful so I will be making some enquiries there.
Also given that after market parts are coming down in price I'm rapidly coming around to keeping it. Especially as I've never seen such a following for a particular model of car. One thing I could really do with is an accurate source of part numbers if anyone knows of one.

Soo I went to the dealer to have them investigate why my strong wheel no longer goes in and out... But it will still tilt... After I brought it to them I was told my car does not have that feature... Now I'm really sure the HD elantra had that standard....and I have adjusted the wheel in this fashion before.... But am I crazy?

The hd has esc, trac and stability control. The other night i found out that it works nice. Went thought a round about a bit fast i guess. Rear came out and the abs kicked in a did its job. Mind you it was wet, and nobody was around. Didn't think i was going that fast but i guess i was, lol. Not that i was worried at all. The thing i do like is it doesn't seem to be to intrusive. Takes a bit for the trac to come on and not cut all the power.
Now on to my really question. I thinking bout ice racing it a few times, maybe once. If i turn it off is it really off or still in the background and take over if i get to sideways? Seems like they use the same system in all there cars. Guess im just trying to see what im in for this winter. Looking for some input for you guys.
Picture because I can.

I don't know how many of you guys remember me, but I used to post here when I had my favorite (so far) car I've ever owned, an '02 Elantra GT. Long story (sorta) short, in 2012, I traded my Elantra in on a new Cruze. Well, I didn't like the payments and honestly, I missed my Elantra (this was about 6-9 months after the allure of owning a brand new car wore off) and ended up letting my parents trade that in and I paid off their '06 Accord sedan, which had been in the family since 2010 and this was 2013 at this point. My Mom got a new 2013 Civic and I had the Accord. Well, the plan was to sell the Accord and get something sportier and I had my heart set on a Civic Si ('06 era) and I searched and searched and couldn't find one for a good price. Fast forward to August 11th this year. My friend had seen an Elantra at a dealership and called and told me about it. Went down to check it out and it had a few electrical problems and the brakes need re-done, but I wanted it and ended up getting it. It had 48k (carfax confirmed) 2 owner miles and I'm in love again.
i got the electrical issues sorted out. Turned out it was just a part in the fuse panel in the interior of the car was turned the wrong way and was causing the stereo, dome lights, central locking, keyless entry, etc. to not work right. Also, I didn't have the door chime. I'm sure there are other things it affected, but I ended up finding the fix on a google search and now, I've gotta get the brakes done (where would you guys recommend?) and I plan to do some mild mods. Just a nav/backup camera setup, GT grille possibly, exhaust/intake, etc. Anyway, there's a few things I left out, but I'm getting tired of typing and you guys might be getting tired of reading.
I've attached a pic. I have more, but I don't have 'em hosted yet. Anyway, I'm so glad to be back in an Elantra. It's actually surreal. I was 22 when I got my first one and I'm nearly 32 now, so yeah, it's seriously like one of those "home again" feelings. I'm super happy and I just had to post. Thanks to those who read this.
Disclaimer: I'm not mechanically inclined at all, (yet) so if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to mechanics, chances are, I probably don't.

Hey everyone. My father received a free dinghy boat and then gave said boat to me. I don't have a truck or anything, but I am aware of the XD Elantra's surprisingly high towing capacity. My concern, however, is with the transmission. The boat is inflatable but it has a wood bottom and backing. I will probably end up putting a four-stoke motor (no more than 8 horsepower) on it. I have no doubt that my Elantra can tow it, but when I do, how should I handle the transmission? The option to disable overdrive is not available on the 2004 Elantra. If I put it in 3, will it only drive in 3rd gear or will it shift up until 3rd gear? I do have a Miata with a stick shift, but I have never had to drive any automatic in anything other than 'drive' or 'reverse.' Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S. I'll be extra careful with the braking.

Yup you heard right there was a almost concrete hard packed in wad of dirt behind the plastic protective barrier, protecting the door and firewall behind the front tires! It's possible that all gls,gt and elantra in the 03-06 range have this as I have seen nothing unusual or broken about my particular panels. We'll it's worth looking into all. Ha! WEIGHT REDUCTION BRO!!

I bought my Elantra Limited with the full tech package (touch screen, navigation, XM radio).
In a sentence - it's the worst system interface I've ever experienced. I'll go into the why of that below, but the purpose of this thread is to get recommendations on aftermarket systems that I could replace it with. I've done some research and so far any aftermarket system that has NAV and Satellite radio is only for Elantras that didn't have the OEM tech package, and they specifically say they aren't compatible with Elantras that have factory XM/Navigation.
So let me be clear, I'm LOOKING FOR AN AFTERMARKET SYSTEM THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH ELANTRAS THAT HAVE FACTORY NAV/SATELLITE RADIO/BACK UP CAMERA.
Why? The list is long:
- Back up Camera
- Overlay eats up 10% of my field of view and there's no way to disable it
- There's a huge delay on getting the backup camera to turn on when I go into reverse. It's most notable when I first turn on the car. Sometimes I have to wait as much as 6-7 seconds before the camera engages, and sometimes there's a nice black screen there before the camera comes on. The factory says this is normal.
- Bluetooth streaming
- I use an iPhone 5 and often times I'll have to toggle the bluetooth streaming audio button on/off/on/off several times before it'll stream
- There's a host of other weird phenomenon that occur regarding bluetooth streaming
- Would be nice if I could see the title of the song my iPhone was streaming on the display. Bluetooth has this functionality, not sure why Hyundai opted not to use it
- Nav system
- Have to pay for real time traffic conditions. Google maps on my iPhone does this for free
- Have to pay $200 for an annual update. Google maps is free and updates in real time constantly
- Checking things like team scores requires that I go through my nav system XM data. Then, if I want to for instance go to the Dodgers game on XM, I have to remember what the station number was, exit the nav system, enter the XM system and type in the station number. Why can't I just press the icon with the station number from the XM data screen and have it take me to that station?!?
- Host of other nav system phenomenon and quirks that drive me batty
- Sound System - When playing back from a thumb drive
- Random number generator for going through random songs is ridiculously broken. For example, I have several 3 Doors Down albums on my thumb drive. If I hit the random button twice to go to random all, it's guaranteed that at least 10 out of the first 20 song selections will be 3 Doors Down, and that's only one of like 40 bands I have on my thumb drive. I've tried this a hundred times over and it's very clear the RNG for song selection is very primitive.
- When I go from my thumb drive to XM and then back to the thumb drive, random is turned off and I have to start over again.
- When I turn the car off and back on, random is turned off and I have to start over again.
- The voice recognition engine (which is in the nav/entertainment system) is complete crap. My iPhone is far superior.
- Phone
- Randomly decides not to pair with my phone
There's about 2 dozen other problems I've logged. Some of them are bugs, some are just complete lack of elegance in the UI. I've communicated them ad nauseum to Hyundai and I get form letter responses. It's hard to believe that a car that was built so incredibly in every other aspect has such a lame entertainment/nav system.

I bought a used front light but it was aiming too high.
It was disturbing the drivers on the opposite lane.
I tried to re-adjust it by the screws but no response looks like the aiming mechanism problem.
Please advise.

Sorry to start off on such a sob story.
This weekend it finally happened. My Elantra has now been sold to someone who will appreciate her. I feel really empty that I have sold her.
The reason I thought it was time for her to go was because I never drive her and really just liked looking at her. I've had so many great memories with her. She was my first car and the car I got my driver license in. She was the car that I moved out of home with and start my own life.
9.5 years later I can say she will always be my favourite car.
The reason I decided to sell her was because I mostly drive the i30cw and being diesel it has been a very practical car to own. I do like the i30, but it doesn't get babied like my Ellie. I have always been over cautious with looking after her beautiful black paint and still looks like the day she left the showroom. The i30 on the other hand is very and easy to wash and Im not all that fussed about seeing it get used.
So everyone, I'm sure I have made an area of myself, but it was a hard decision to make.
Have a great time with your new owner Ellie Elantra

So the past few months the horn on my car has been sounding a little off. We just thought maybe it is going bad. Well today we needed to jack up the car to replace the fog light. Now I know why it was sounding funny. The bracket that holds the horn was rusty and the bolt rusted right now. So the horn was just dangling there from the cord. Seems crazy considering the bolt was welded on to the bracket. We have it zip tied for now haha. Zip ties fix everything

Hi everyone,
I know I haven't been very active here lately and apologise about that.
Here goes...
I bought my 05 XD Elantra sedan brand new and it is my first car I have ever owned.
I have love having it as my car and still think it's a great looking car.
Recently we purchased a brand new 14 GD i30 in Diesel and are really happy with it.
I now drive a 09 FD i30cw in Diesel and like its practicality. I wouldn't say I love it like the XD. However it is a car I get a lot of use out of. It's great for towing, we have 2 Labrador dogs and they happily cruise around the back of the i30. It is much more fuel efficient than my Elantra.
I'm stuck in the place where I would love to keep the Elantra and don't want to see someone else driving her and makes me hesitant to sell her. She has been an awesome car to own over the past 9 years and I have to say shes in showroom condition and has an engine on her that will go forward because of how particular I have been taking care of her.
My issue is do I go with my heart and keep the Elantra or do I go with my head and keep the i30 which is a good choice for my lifestyle. - I'm choosing between head and heart. I'm a very practical person and automatically lean towards going with my head than heart.
The Elantra is sentimental to me, but is there a time when I have to let go of that and remember the memories?
I probably seem like the biggest idiot and will not doubt be told if this is the only worry in the my life... get over it...
Opinions? Thanks everyone!

Hey guys!
I've had my 2001 Elantra for 14 years now. I love this car, but it's starting to show it's age. The paint is oxidizing and I'm missing a lot of the bells / whistles that newer cars have.
I only have 85k miles on it and it seems to be running fine.
Here are my options?
1) Fix up my Elantra: New paint job (cheap $1k job?), new radio w/screen & backup camera ($600?), and some deferred maint. like timing belt, etc ($1k?). Total around $3k
2) Buy a new car. Maybe a new Elantra, Optima, Sonata, or (my current fav pick) Mazda 6. Total around $30k
My mechanic thinks that since the engine is running fine and there's no oil burning (that I can tell), he thinks I'll get another 30k+ miles out of this car. My hope is that would last me for the next 5 years until my daughter could start driving (I do less than 7k per year on it).
What's crazy is that the KBB value on my little baby is only about $2.5k
I have the money to buy a new car, but kinda like the principle of running this one until my daughter can drive and/or running it into the ground.
What do you think I should do? Fix this up and hope it lasts or just go get the new car?
Looking forward to your thoughts and ideas!

My wife has owned a 2003 Elantra GLS since new. The car still has just 99K and is in great shape. My wife has decided to get a new car. Believe me that in it's self is just amazing. I looked at and drove a very nice 2013 Elantra coupe today. We are probably going back Saturday and buy the car. That means the 03 will be going up for sale. This will be her third straight Elantra. All three have been great cars.

This is more of a rant than request for assistance with troubleshooting.
Due to family health reasons, my wife and I are planning to relocate sometime in April/May. So after we've decided to try to sell my 2003 Elantra rather than replace the rear right brake caliper and patch the exhaust, my wife's 2010 Accent hatchback (automatic) threw a CEL yesterday after work. What was really fun is the O/D light was flashing...all strobe lights strive to flash so quickly. The car seems like it's stuck in 3rd gear and won't display the state of the transmission on the HUD. (No P, R, N, D, 2, or 1 is displayed.) When putting it into drive it lurched forward. I drove the vehicle home as gently as possible after verifying that the transmission fluid levels were okay and didn't smell burned. (Note that the CEL was solid and not flashing.)
My OBD scanner is showing the error U0101 "generic." (Lost Communication With Transmission Control Module) After looking it up, from what I can tell, it's an error that could be related to a number of things but may require a replacment TCM. I have an appointment with the dealership as I'd rather them diagnose a possible electric/computer problem than my regularly trusted mechanic. These past few months have been expensive and this is not something that was expected. Why when it rains must it pour.
