ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ Elantra General Discussions _ The EC Owners Satisfaction Survey

Posted by: elantragt Jan 7 2010, 09:50 AM

I did this many years ago at the old "main site" and the results were very positive. This is a multiple choice poll . Base your answers on real world expectations. Afterall, this is an inexpensive vehicle so be realistic.

How it works...

There are 3 choices (satisfied, disappointed, very disappointed) in each of 5 categories... mechanical issues, paint & finish, performance, mileage and overall satisfaction. So this mean you need to choose one answer in all 5 categories to make this survey accurate.

Wow, so far everyone agrees! This car has been great for me in every way. My only disappointment is that I have gotten a bunch of rock chips and door dings, but that's not the car's fault!

Hey, my car is over 7 years old and I still love it. It's seen it's share of parking lot dings sad.gif , snowstorms, hard driving etc... but it's a vehicle I still love taking out for a spin.

Posted by: Bobzilla Jan 7 2010, 10:16 AM

There were no "Very Satisfied" options. 116k hard driven miles, abuse and lots of time driven in anger. Has held up extremely well. April 15th will be 8 years for me with Porky.

Bob, consider "satisfied" as very satisfied. biggrin.gif

Posted by: popeye Jan 7 2010, 12:19 PM

Overall I'm a very satisfied with both cars, I am a little bit dissatisfied with mpg performance and tho I indicated 'satisfied' on the power and handling point I do wish for a little bit better handling but I realize the limitations of the design and purpose of the car so in effect I am satisfied with it's intent.

2 simple things will transform that car. Tib bar. H&R springs. O. M. G.

Posted by: Vampyrate Jan 7 2010, 03:24 PM

did mine from memory and im looking at a few choices that may include just getting another sedan

Posted by: sarge Jan 7 2010, 08:09 PM

that last option was a little tricky for me. Since I got bent over hard with financing, with the amount I spent I should have a much better car... but taking a look at the actual price of the car and not the financing add-ons, I'm rather pleased with it.

Since I wasn't really expecting much more than a car to drive around to work that was more reliable than my 20yr old 'sports' car, this thing is doing great.
I think almost all of the failures I've had have been related to something that I changed, and thus owner error.... except my leaky hatch and accident damage.

I know, I know

Tib bar- Check

Springs- Well almost once...

It's been a great car, I really don't ask much of it and it always delivers if I do as long as I remember it's limits (which I do)

Posted by: Bigs Jan 8 2010, 08:21 AM

When I had my Elantra I was satisfied overall! The only thing was the thin paint and thin sheet metal... Also the windshields are not the best, but that seems like a Hyundai issue all round as we have the pitting on both Accents also... The new Accent is not even 1 year old and it's ridiculous the pitting on it. My GT after 3 years was quite bad...

Posted by: Stevetheriddler Jan 8 2010, 01:17 PM

Other than the couple of buzzes, my car has been impeccably good. I'm at 40K miles now with no mechanical maladies to speak of. I've heard about the issues with paint on these cars, so I think Hyundai stepped up their game with the finish on the HD, or at least mine. My dad's '06 Accord has dull paint in comparison to mine.

This is the BEST car I've owned and the first car that I still wanted to drive/own after paying it off! gtlove.gif

Those percentages should be calculated by catagory not overall, for instance 17 0ut 0f 17 voted overall happy with the purchase how is that 20%?

Posted by: only1db Jan 9 2010, 08:44 AM

very happy! the only it did on my was the thermo sticking....other then that pretty good...anything else was my fault.

handling was decent with the stock set up...but i didnt have it on there long enough to get used to it....the coils and 17's were on there before i knew it! then i added the rear 22mm sway bar...so im happy with it.

the paint has lasted because i have taken car of it!

july 31st will be 7 years!

I think people realize that 17 out of seventeen is 100%. When we have a larger database of answers I willl post the per category percentages. That's the limitation of forum polls. Right now, I'm trying to get as many owners taking the poll as I can.

I wish all of my purchases would be of as great value of this car. The info offer on this site was instrumental in my purchase decision. When this car goes to heck in 10 yrs, hopefully there will be an equivalent value out there when I need it.

Hey folks... this wasn't meant to be a short term thread.

EVERY ELANTRA OWNING MEMBER NEEDS TO TAKE THE SURVEY/POLL!!! Doh.gif

The car is proving to be a good daily driver.
Gas mileage in the city is not quite up to what I expected but oh well. Highway mileage seems fairly good.
Power?! LOL. What power? But it is an automatic. Driven nicely it is very faithful and gets me from point A to point B. Don't expect any G Force, slam in the seat acceleration. You might even help acceleration if you lean forward. laugh.gif
Handling is acceptable but mushy. I've upgraded the springs to H&R which seemed to wake it up tremendously but it made the ride more harsh. Sometimes I want the soft ride back but I am getting old. (I might be putting the old stock springs back in and selling the H&Rs. Any interest out there?)

The fit and finish of the car is actually pretty nice. Yes the metal gauge and paint is not thick. But taken care of it doesn't show.

My 02 has just turned 90K miles and has had very little to no issues other than normal maintenance. Thermostat and hubs seemed to be the most major replacements that I was not expecting but having the ability to replace those parts myself kept that cost way down.
Having purchased my car used I only had the 60K mile warranty. It was still a great warranty. Most of the other items I've had problems with were done under that warranty.
Exhaust manifold with Cadillac converter (never could find the switch to make it convert LOL), Window tape, Headlights? (Wow), ECU reflashes all done under warranty.

The car has proven to be larger than it's size depicts. (I have the hatchback) folding the seats down has practically turned it into a truck bed.
I purchased an engine hoist from a store. The box was very large and very heavy. I pulled up with the Elantra and the guy doing the loading said "There's no way we can get this box in that car!" (I had called ahead and asked for the measurements of the box)
I folded the seats down, had him pull the forklift right up to the hatch and pushed it in. It fit right in perfectly and I closed the hatch. The guy shook his head and said "Damn! It fits!" (I had to assemble the hoist from the back of the car because I couldn't lift the box out but had planned on that anyhow)

I'm very happy with the amenities of my car. Power steering, power windows, power sunroof, indigo dash lights (GT), leather seats (not the greatest in winter though) nice stereo, traction control and a few other options. Great stuff for a cheap car.

So, yes I'm happy with my daily driver. It's been a great, reliable and affordable car.
Would I consider another one? Very possibly. I like the new touring model but I don't see my car going away anytime soon.
I paid cash for my car so I don't have a car payment. I really don't want a car payment so it doesn't look like I'll be in the market for quite awhile.

Great info, Don. Thanks a ton. clap3.gif

Posted by: JohnsRedGT Jan 31 2010, 11:29 AM

thumbsup.gif 9 years old.....125,000 miles.... still a reliable ride. I've had to replace the rear wheel bearings, but other than that - nothing that isn't normal maintenance related. My "Saab look alike" still starts right up and should be good for another 125,000 miles.
> Still on the original clutch (fingers crossed)
> Paint is still good; a combination of wax and a garage....
> gas mileage is still good ( high 20's back and forth to work, low 30's on the road)
> nice touches in an inexpensive car: Traction Control, heated mirrors, sun roof, cruise, leather.
> It has the ability to handle BIG loads with the back seat folded down...

I will prob'ly keep it as my primary ride another 2-3 years until I retire and then just keep it as 2nd car. I t is too small to tow the boat/jet ski/camper etc.....

Overall, I am really well pleased with it. gtlove.gif

Peace Out Peace.gif

171k and still kicking very strongly!

I live in the states but my family came from Germany, Naturally I love German engineering. I have always loved VW, BMW and Audi but after buying my 02GT the performance needed a bit of work at first, but now I can't find one car I would trade for my little Korean car. I've had my car for four years and I still find myself looking out the window just to take a glance at it. I agree the survey really needed an very satisfied answer. Almost an eight year old car and I still get people who think Its an 2008-09 UNLESS thay know Hyundai, which that doesn't seem to be alot. Elantra's got the Exterior looks, Interior style and comfort , beta performance and the Joy of standing out even with an affordable automotive.

Survey done!

Even tho the car isn't mine- I'm still in it 90% of the time and I help with maintenance when he asks me to. Even tho we bought used, I can't complain.

My little 01 GT has 152,000 mile on it and without a doubt the most reliable car I've owned. It's been through 2 accidents, one major one minor. It's been up and down the entire east coast including Toronto Canada and it's taken the abuse of being my daily driver. I've had gone through 3 sets of tires, 4 sets of headlights bulbs, 2 radios, 1 subwoofer, 3 set of taillight bulbs, 3 sets of speakers and I'm on my 4th windshield and my 2 nd set of headlight and tail light assemblies. Plus the regular wear and tear items. Hmmm....The drivers side widow button sticks, The little part in the hook that holds the visor in place broke off. The front leather seats have some cracks on them. A couple of rattles and squeaks. Need new struts, my clock stopped working for a while now.......That's it. Not bad at all for a "disposable" car that was written off by people 130,000 miles ago after the accident. I have to give it up to Hyundai for making a great car. I still get a little angry when I hear people say Hyundai's aren't any good,....... whatever. I tell them my car note days are over. biggrin.gif

Posted by: bdiggy Feb 1 2010, 02:41 PM

mechanically sound overall, but the paint and power could be a little better (moreso the paint for me). She's been good to me over the last 5 1/2 years, so no complaints!

Posted by: xdforme22 Feb 2 2010, 01:26 PM

Overall I very satisfied. Paint is the only weak spot (orange peel and thin from factory), but that aside the car is great.

Posted by: imatree0 Feb 6 2010, 01:46 AM

I bought my Elantra with 92,000 miles in September 2008 and it's now February 2010 and I'm at 126,500 miles. I've put a little more money than planned into my car, but I drive a lot so it's somewhat expected. Honestly I would never buy any other car but Hyundai, considering my sister's 2000 Elantra has 230,000 miles and is still moving along nicely. thumbsup.gif

Posted by: natesi Feb 6 2010, 07:16 PM

Thumbs up here. The car is 8 years old now, so I guess this is where I'll find out about long-term reliability. Up till now it's been the most reliable car I've owned (although I am experiencing a strange electrical/sensor issue at the moment). But I never planned on owning it this long. Given the price I paid and how I've beat on it almost every day of it's life, it is hard to complain.

My biggest thing I don't like, however, is the mushy, no-feeling, constantly-warping brakes. Second thing would be the loud freeway noise -- I wear earplugs on longer trips. Engine power is adequate for the price paid -- it definitely could have been worse. Handling is good with rear tibby bar.

Dealership services approaches incompetence everywhere I've been, but that seems to be par for the course with many auto makers.

We really need members to answer this "satisfaction survey" poll.
