Hey- It your Birthday.

Can you believe we've been online for a dozen years? That's amazing.

We've gone from a little fan page featuring my '02 GT to a site with a wealth of Hyundai, Elantra and general automotive knowledge. Over the years well over 20,000 people have become members (although our current total is only 8,000+).

Something else has changed over the years and that can be summed up as enthusiasm or more accurately lack of enthusiasm. I remember the early days when we were the GT club. Everyone seemed to be passionate about their poor man's SAAB hatchbacks. There was an enthusiasm and a camaraderie that was unbeatable here. Everyone wanted to share their newest pics or mod ideas. It was an awesome time.

Over the years the club has expanded in many ways. We now have a fast server and reliable software and the site is a vast database of knowledge... but...

The enthusiastic fun we used to have has been replaced with a quiet, complacent and seemingly disinterested crowd. Some of it is understandable. Forums, in general aren't as busy as they once were. Many of our early members have moved on from their Elantras. Social sites like Facebook are all the rage. So I understand the reason behind some of the drop off.

But in many ways I just don't get it. A perfect example, is a new topic posted by trololololo asking members about their mods for 2014. Now I realize a lot of our members aren't really modders but that topic has gotten zero replies. How is that possible?

Look, EC is about a common interest almost all of us share. It's about the car we drive. And I think most of you joined here because you are car people. I say most because I realize many members sign up to ask one question and never come back. That's always been the case though. It just seems like current members just take the club for granted to an extent or have just lost their interest.

After a dozen years, EC has definitely changed. But we are still here and kicking. Hopefully we can get some of our members to reply to topics more or maybe post more pics etc... that would be nice. We still have a good core of members and a great bunch of club moderators. All we need is just a little more passion about EC and about the Elantra. It can happen and hopefully, it will.

It might just be an American tradition, but Happy Fathers' Day to all the dads in this community worldwide. After I get home from work, I'm looking forward to spending some time with my 2 boys.

Steve's not active here anymore but he definitely is an all-time EC great.

Move took longer than planned, plus without work for sometime. Things are finally settling down, except for the car.

Some of you may know about the engine replacement done back in March on my car. After that there were some odd noises that I thought may have been new engine break in and possibly a new crank getting "familiar" with a used trans input and clutch point. Well, get up here and i start getting a whine in 3rd n esp 4th gear under power. Then it starts kicking me out of third gear when downshifting. SO i decide to replace the trans fluid even tho i'd used full syn at 30k and was now 71k. The attached picture shows ALL that came out of the trans.

So I take it to the local dealer. They didnt even seem to care about the bottle of fluid but instead tried citing the Tib wheels, hubs and brakes as failure for worn out trans bearings (even tho they never even looked inside the trans nor took the car around the block). That is what went on the paper, but what they told me personally, was A. You serviced it yourself (even tho i had the old fluid and receipt for new fluids), and B. It wasnt our mistake so no warranty work. I finally manage to get ahold of the service manager at Cocoa where the engine was serviced, but they insist that they dont mess with the trans and take the engine out the top. So at no point would the tech have needed to empty nor fill the trans according to the manager. Which leaves me to wonder how I have trans issues AFTER the engine swap but not before (sabotage? tech oversight?)

So it looks like I will be keeping Hunter and sourcing a low mileage trans, Spec clutch kit, and chromoly flywheel. All that would only be a couple months of new car payments and I'd have a nearly new drivetrain (new short block, clutch, flywheel, and lightly used trans) And I have been getting better mileage up here (avg in the 27-29mpg range since July despite very lil in 55mph+ hwy speeds) I can't in good conscience trade her in with the issues she has right now. And I'm thinking I'd rather add a motorbike or small rwd vert.

Come one, come all! The date for the Pig Roast has been announced for this year! The big date is August 9th. As Kyle (slowgls) will attest, it's a great time with great food, cold beer and rockin' music. I'd love to see it also act as a mini-meet for the Club, so come on out and party it up with us. We've been in the hospital for a week and Tammy is starting to show some improvement. The one infection (an MRSA) is the tough one. Her facial swelling has come down quite a bit.

I've been here by her side 24/7 (I don't recommend sleeping in a chair for a week plus lol)and it's been heartening seeing the help with the donation drive. Im not working right now so this $$ will help pay club bills. Thank you for that.
