Ever since I bought my car (used in May) I noticed that there are thousands of small little dots that seem to be stuck in limbo in my windshield glass. I've tried a variety of glass cleaners, none of which do the trick. I haven't clay barred, but have no reason to believe it would work in this case given that I've never quite seen anything like this in my life.

It appears almost as if there are tiny dust particles all over the windshield yet there is no way (that I can find) to remove them.

Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone experienced a similar thing?

They might be pits from dust or rocks. There was a story about UFO's causing windshield pitting like that... except everyone's old windshield has thousands of little pits... mine does.

You know - I think its more just the smog in TO that's doing it

I've noticed, what I think to be the same as you're describing) on my Elantra as well as my Fiero after I had the windshield replaced
rock pits on the outside and what looks to be dust stuck within the glass - but all over... it all depends on the light and angle you're looking at the glass

That's our pitted windshield from Hyundai... Not much to do in that case.

Cheap windshields. Mine did that after 2 years. The Accent is almost 3 years old and it's quite pitted. If you do lots of highway it doesn't help. Winter with the sand and salt flying all over..

Oh man, that's such B.S. I mean - I'm happy to know it's not just me, I just wish there was a way to get rid of it (without shelling out the cash on a new windshield).

Why is it that the Hyundai exterior is so 'cheap'.... first the paint is about as thick as a sheet of paper split in two... now the windshield is pitted. Gah!

And, Sargeants, I wonder if this is a more regular occurrence on older/less expensive cars. My parents who (until my mother just bought an '07 Elantra) both owned Acura's and have never had this problem.

heres a question....... do you have underground sprinklers? i have the same problem with all of my side windows. i park on the street next to sprinklers and what i found out is the water after it hits the head of the sprinkler will have a residue that wont come off.

if thats the case you need a product from Gliptone called "spot off" i believe. my tint guy reccomended it. my windows looked fine until i tinted them, they the dots stood out. im bringing my car to the tint guy to take care of it and then im gonna try and scam a garage spot from my mom

I don't get hit by a sprinkler but since I bought it used (and the windshield was like that from the get-go) it's very likely this is the case.

Any idea where I might be able to get my hands on "spot off"? I might give it a shot either way since it really pisses me off when the sun's glaring on it.

Don't waste your cash on trying to fix a pitted windshield... But that just my opinion..

So is it a consensus then that this is the reason why?

Ok - let's assume this is the problem (which, I am honestly leaning towards), is the only solution to fixing it to get it replaced? Anyone know how much a windshield would cost? ... Probably not worth it I'm guessing.

Well I have an 06 elantra and have no issues like this.... However my dad who has a new acura rdx has much and I mean much worse paint then my elantra. His has so many marks and nicks in only 5,000 miles. My elantra has 2 nicks on the hood from the highway in 30k.

well just throwing numbers out there - I had my Fiero window replaced back in the summer of 05? I paid $250 to have the guy come to my work and swap the windshields out on my lunch break. Even after that I noticed some little spots here and there - and I think it took me about a week before I had a nice stone chip right in the middle behind the mirror (that would have been in the nose/hood or middle of the windshield for other cars)

I know there are places in the GTA that can do the onsite repair and are pretty decent prices... I had to wait 2 days for mine, cause it was 'special' - just like me
